Need Help Invalidating Uberblock
I have a ZFS pool that has been corrupted. The pool contains a single device which was actually a file on UFS. The machine was accidentally halted and now the pool is corrupt. There are (of course) no backups and I''ve been asked to recover the pool. The system panics when trying to do anything with the pool. root@:/$ zpool status panic[cpu1]/thread=fffffe8000758c80: assertion failed:

cannot replace X with Y: devices have different sector alignment
Well this is a new one.... Illumos/Openindiana let me add a device as a hot spare that evidently has a different sector alignment than all of the other drives in the array. So now I''m at the point that I /need/ a hot spare and it doesn''t look like I have it. And, worse, the other spares I have are all the same model as said hot spare. Is there anything I can do with this or

Single-disk rpool with inconsistent checksums, import fails
Hello all, I have an oi_148a PC with a single root disk, and since recently it fails to boot - hangs after the copyright message whenever I use any of my GRUB menu options. Booting with an oi_148a LiveUSB I had around since installation, I ran some zdb traversals over the rpool and zpool import attempts. The imports fail by running the kernel out of RAM (as recently discussed in the list with

link-dest question
The command below was run on FreeBSD 7.2 with rsync-3.0.3. The command works but copies all files, i.e. no hard links created. rsync -vaxH --numeric-ids --delete --exclude=/home/apache/logs \ --link-dest=/mnt/200912/newharbor/home -e ssh newharbor.safeport.com:/home \ 201001/newharbor/home/ The command was run without the continuation breaks that I added for readability. The command

ZFS and UFS performance
We are running Solaris 10 11/06 on a Sun V240 with 2 CPUS and 8 GB of memory. This V240 is attached to a 3510 FC that has 12 x 300 GB disks. The 3510 is configured as HW RAID 5 with 10 disks and 2 spares and it''s exported to the V240 as a single LUN. We create iso images of our product in the following way (high-level): # mkfile 3g /isoimages/myiso # lofiadm -a /isoimages/myiso

Files are duplicated after renaming (with glusterfs+zfs-fuse)
Hi all, I installed glusterfs (version 3.1.3) with zfs-fuse (0.6.9) as the underlying filesystem. After renaming a file, I found the file duplicated. Following is my test scenario. root at ubuntu:/# zpool create tank /dev/sdb root at ubuntu:/# gluster volume create test-volume ubuntu:/tank/exp1 ubuntu:/exp2 root at ubuntu:/# gluster volume start test-volume root at ubuntu:/# mount -t glusterfs

snapdir visable recursively throughout a dataset
Is there an existing RFE for, what I''ll wrongly call, "recursively visable snapshots"? That is, .zfs in directories other than the dataset root. Frankly, I don''t need it available in all directories, although it''d be nice, but I do have a need for making it visiable 1 dir down from the dataset root. The problem is that while ZFS and Zones work smoothly

ZFS encryption?? - [Fwd: [osol-announce] SXCE Build 105 available]
It was rumored that Nevada build 105 would have ZFS encrypted file systems integrated into the main source. In reviewing the Change logs (URL''s below) I did not see anything mentioned that this had come to pass. Its going to be another week before I have a chance to play with b105. Does anyone know specifically if b105 has ZFS encryption? Thanks, Jerry -------- Original Message

How create a FAT filesystem on a zvol?
The `lofiadm'' man page describes how to export a file as a block device and then use `mkfs -F pcfs'' to create a FAT filesystem on it. Can''t I do the same thing by first creating a zvol and then creating a FAT filesystem on it? Nothing I''ve tried seems to work. Isn''t the zvol just another block device? -- -Gary Mills- -Unix Group-

CUPS postscript driver - setting up **ERRATA**
Hi All, Following instructions from here: http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/CUPS-printing.html#id2942237 and also in the "Official Samba Howto" book, I tried to install the CUPS PS driver using cupsaddsmb. It failed due to various reasons, and then I finally got it to work. When I unpacked the latest tar.gz file (cups-samba-5.0rc3.tar.gz) it doesn't unpack the files as:

Data loss (corruption with rsync)
Hello, I just rsync'd my 1TB partitions formated with jfs filesystem containing ~720GB data. I saw -3G difference between source and destination which made me suspect possible dataloss. Also I had experienced loss of integrity on my previous copies but I did not find the cause until now. As command line I used following: sh-3.2# rsync --verbose --sparse --append-verify --fuzzy --progress

Solaris derivate with the best long-term future
As a napp-it user who recently needs to upgrade from NexentaCore I recently saw "preferred for OpenIndiana live but running under Illumian, NexentaCore and Solaris 11 (Express)" as a system recommendation for napp-it. I wonder about the future of OpenIndiana and Illumian, which fork is likely to see the most continued development, in your opinion? Thanks.

Weird issue with gluster mount
Hey guys, I have a weird issue with my glusterfs mount point. I'm trying to touch it on one machine: root at il-bi-s01:/mnt# touch gfs touch: setting times of `gfs': Invalid argument But on another machine, it works: root at diablo /mnt # touch gfs root at diablo /mnt # On both machines the mount is working fine, I'm just wondering what's up with this? resize2fs on LVM on MD raid on Fedora Core 3 - inode table conflicts in fsck
Hi. I'm attempting to setup a box here to be a file-server for all my data. I'm attempting to resize an ext3 partition to demonstrate this capability to myself before fully committing to this system as the primary data storage. I'm having some problems resizing an ext3 filesystem after I've resized the underlying logical volume. Following the ext3 resize, fsck spits out lots

Samba4 AD DC using s3fs an OpenIndiana/Illumos/Solaris
Hello! I've just built my first samba4 (4.0.5) on an OpenIndiana machine without any problems. But when it comes to the provision step the problems begin. Everything is fine, if I call samba-tool with the --use-ntvfs option. But I want to use samba4 with s3fs because of the support for newer SMB protocol versions. But when I call samba-tool without --use-ntvfs option I got the following:

no network interfaces found on OpenIndiana (Illumos)
Hi, I've downloaded the samba 3.6.12 OpenCSW package. I joined openindiana to the the active directory, winbind seems to work fine, I see all the users with "wbinfo -u". However, my samba server is not starting. It seems that there is no network card found. 2013/03/06 10:40:39.068405, 0] lib/interface.c:543(load_interfaces) WARNING: no network interfaces found [2013/03/06

SUMMARY: mounting datasets from a read-only pool with aid of tmpfs
Hello all, I''d like to report a tricky situation and a workaround I''ve found useful - hope this helps someone in similar situations. To cut the long story short, I could not properly mount some datasets from a readonly pool, which had a non-"legacy" mountpoint attribute value set, but the mountpoint was not available (directory absent or not empty). In this case
