Portal 2 crashes and no 3D acceleration
Hi there! I installed Linux Mint on my laptop a few days ago. Installed Wine from the software manager. Works fine. I installed Steam through the Winetricks app. Okay, all good. Installed Bejeweled 3. Loaded and all, but didn't have 3D acceleration. Tried to enable that in the settings, restarted the game (a restart was required)....disabled again. So I installed DirectX 9 and components

Portal crashes after splash screen.
System: Pentium 4 2.6ghz, 1GB RAM, and 128mb ATI Radeon 9800 graphics card. Ubuntu 8.04, and Wine 1.1.5. I set up Steam in accordance with the appdb entry, and I installed portal from the DVD retail release. Installation went perfectly. Problem: After the valve/source logo screens, the mouse appears, the screen goes white, and the main menu music plays. Since there is no menu, it has to be

Updated steam, Portal 1 won't launch
I played Portal 1 for a while yesterday. When I was done, Steam asked to be updated and I let it. Since that update Portal has refused to launch. Here's what happens: The intro videos play, and then the screen stays black. There is absolutely no disk or CPU activity. It's like it just refuses to load. System monitor says hl2.exe is at "futex_waite_queue_me" Other source games

Steam not working on Debian 6
Hello. On other thread I posted that I could not get Wine working on centos 5.5. Well, I migrated to Debian 6 and got wine 1.3 working by .debs provided by winehq. Now, I'm wanting to run Steam (www.steampowered.com) on Debian 6, but it is crashing with nothing. It just updates and then starts and crashes. Here is the log: root at ice:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam# wine Steam.exe

Re: Steam Installation Errors
Try running steam as administrator (right click function). Or uninstall all reinstall steam (move your steamapps out and back after) delete the .blob files and start as administrator.

Portal crashes when I click new game.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with the newest version of Wine. I'm relatively new to Linux, but I do understand the basics of terminal. I have Portal installed on the Steam platform in Ubuntu through Wine, and when I open it, it all starts up beautifully, but when it gets to the main menu, some objects are missing in the background and you can see some glitched up areas. Then, when I click

Why doesn't Portal with Wine with the radeon driver work?
I am using Wine 1.2 which I compiled on Debian testing/wheezy. It works with fglrx but not with the radeon driver. I am using the AMD/ATI HD4850 video card. The following terminal output shows the wine error and that the radeon driver has OpenGL 2.1 support which to my understanding is at least the equivalent of Direct3D 9 (which is all I need). Also, there is a wine popup for every attempt to run

Steam Client : get terminal output from games
Just a quickie question... Could someone remind me how I attach my console output to a game being run through the Steam client? Otherwise I think I am just seeing the output from the Steam client itself - right? I am trying to troubleshoot launching Bioshock 1 and I don't have a retail copy of the game to try out... Thanks 8) Bob

Re: Portal 2 can't run setup EXE
Hello, i found this thread when searching for answer on question "Why portal2's etup.exe doesn't run?" And i found solution! Now hear: the setup.exe will die with "access violation on 00409B2A " if you are trying to run it from FAT32 or NTFS partition. I don't know why, but it is true. So, move the installer's files to the Linux-kind partition (ext2, ext3,

Borland Database Engine related installer issue (Portal GT-D)
I am attempting to install the Portal GT-D mud client (www.gameaxle.com) on top of wine-0.9.6-1.fc4 which I then reconfigured using winetools-0.9-3jo after failing to install MS Office XP Pro (which I never did get to work either, but I found some references saying that it wasn't likely to). IE6 installed and runs for what it is worth. I run the setup program in the style the wine tools use
