Nagios installation problem
Hello, Has anyone managed a successful installation of Nagios using the RPMForge packages on CentOS 5.5? It looks like it should have worked, I followed the guides for Fedora and CentOS here (with appropriate path adjustments): http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/quickstart-fedora.html http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Nagios The SELinux policies look fine (I tend to ignore instructions to

Function SHELL not registered
If you just need the name of the system it may be contained in the variable ${SYSTEMNAME}. This is assuming you have the systemname set in asterisk.conf https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+Main+Configuration+File That said, for SHELL support you probably need to set : live_dangerously = yes Also in your asterisk.conf

Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Oh my mistake. I mean nrpe without parameters. It should say something about SSL/TLS aktiv or so. You could test nrpe without SSL. Use nrpe -n - H host Am 01.05.2015 13:18 schrieb "Eero Volotinen" <eero.volotinen at iki.fi>: > well. how about trying default setting and running nrped without xinetd. > > -- > Eero > > 2015-05-01 14:14 GMT+03:00 Tim Dunphy

asterisk as non-root/best practices
Hi, I have set up asterisk to run as non root, and allow admin users to log in to the server as asterisk, which gives them privileges to edit configs in the asterisk home directory. As for connecting to the console with 'asterisk -r' - this by default does not work as asterisk is owned stored in /usr/sbin/asterisk I am reading that the best way to solve this is to use 'visudo' -

Single crontab entry for every 15 minutes beginning & ending on the hour
We have a cron job that needs to run every 15 minutes throughout business hours. The first run is at 8:00, the last run is at 17:00. Is it possible to specify this time range in a single line? */15 8-17 * * 1-5 will run 8:00 - 17:45. That's not what I want. Likewise */15 8-16 * * 1-5 will have the last run at 16:45, not 17:00 This is more of a brainteaser than a real problem. I can

sftp chroot requirements
Hi Damien, Thank you. I read the rationale. Just to summarize, a user writeable chroot target is considered dangerous if: 1) the user has another way of gaining non-chrooted access to the system 2) is able to create hardlinks to setuid-binaries outside of the chroot tree 3) there are bugs somewhere that allow privilige escalation or remote execution of other programs While all these

grub config garbage after 512 bytes when chainloading via chain.c32
[back story]: I want to convert a non-iso customized Solaris install image (for USB flash stick) to an isolinux hybridized bootable iso image ... since the Solaris installer uses grub out of the box, my first approach was to chain load grub from isolinux (this isn't strictly material to the problem, just trying to avoid the "why on earth would you do that?" responses ;-)

Trigger an event after a puppet run
Hi, We''d like to run puppet regularly in noop then trigger an event after the run depending on the results, namely to hook puppet in to our Nagios implementation so that if anything changes for any reason we receive an alert. We already have puppet configured to send out puppet reports via email but don''t want to completely rely on that. Is it possible to craft a trigger of

nagios command-plugins: unexpected token

Monitoring services
What's available to remotely monitor services? What I'd like is something that can run scripts for each service to connect to a port and verify that it's up, and then send me an SMS message (phone text) to let me know which, if any, are down. Also, does a script exist that checks all the services listed by chkconfig and reports those that should be up but are down?

Direct I/O ability with zfs?
We are using MySQL, and love the idea of using zfs for this. We are used to using Direct I/O to bypass file system caching (let the DB do this). Does this exist for zfs? This message posted from opensolaris.org

HTB - Setting up guaranteed minimum rate for a leaf
Hi I am current trying to set up a guaranteed minimum rate for the leaf (1:1x). Also would I be correct in saying that the quantum is the dividing rule (so if I keep it the same "1532" and keep all the leafs in "1:1x" prio 3 they should all get the same amount of bandwidth shared across them equally?). For example below would the "rate" in the "1:1x" leaf

[PATCH] Fix ectest to not check a case which isn't guaranteed to work, and which we don't use.
When I removed the special case for EC_ILOG(0) in commit 06390d082dcdfa8addb3dde337543bc0f0ebae44, it broke ec_dec_uint() with _ft=1 (which should encode the value 0 using 0 bits). This feature was tested by ectest.c, but not actually used by libcelt. An assert has been added to ec_dec_uint() to ensure that we don't try to use this feature by accident. ec_enc_uint() was actually correct,

Replacements for stdout and stderr guaranteed to be open in all versions of R
I maintain the geometry package, which integrates the Qhull C library (http://qhull.org) into R. The Qhull function I hook into requires an open FILE handle as one of its arguments. I had set this file handle to stdout, but now R check NOTEs the presence of stdout, and the CRAN maintainers asked me to get rid of these NOTEs. Including the following defines means the checks are passed on CRAN:
