Deduplication data for CentOS?
Hi list, is there any working solution for deduplication of data for centos? We are trying to find a solution for our backup server which runs a bash script invoking xdelta(3). But having this functionality in fs is much more friendly... We have looked into lessfs, sdfs and ddar. Are these filesystems ready to use (on centos)? ddar is sthg different, I know. Thx Rainer

JNLP app problems
Hey folks, I'm trying to use a 5.3 box to run some JNLP apps, but all I get is a view of XML. I try doing some googling and don't come up with much other than this one thread that says I may need both 32 and 64 bit Java to run JNLP. But it is not clear to me how to do that. thanks, -Alan -- ?Don't eat anything you've ever seen advertised on TV? ? ? ? ?? - Michael Pollan,

recommend benchmarking SW
Hey folks, We've got some new hardware and are trying to figure out what best to do with it. Either run CentOS right on the bare metal, or virtualize, or several combination options. Mainly looking at : - CentOS on bare metal - CentOS on ESXi 4.0 with local disk - CentOS on ESXi with 1 VM running Openfiler to serve disk to other VMs And want to benchmark these 3 scenarios So far all we

Rsync rules for Shorewall
Hi folks, I''m having an issue with rsync between my firewall and an internal box. It seems to be a shorewall issue (or correctly speaking, an issue with my shorewall config) because if I disable shorewall my rsync works fine. And I just can''t find it documented anywhere what I need to do. I have rules like this : root@userver:/etc/shorewall# grep -i Rsync rules

Dedup (again)
Hi all, Back in March someone asked about deduplication in Centos and I replied I'm using LessFS. I want to report that my overall experience is that I have performance issue up to the point that I would like to abandon it. The OP was asking http://www.opendedup.org/ How is it? Thanks Fajar

Trouble creating DomU with 2 NICs
Hey folks, I created a DomU, installed Linux, and then realized I''d only given it 1 NIC so brought it down to edit the cfg file to give it another NIC. Originally I just had : vif = [''''] And so I guess the defaults worked for the 1 NIC. So I changed it to : vif =

biggest disk partition on 5.8?
Hey folks, I have a Sun J4400 SAS1 disk array with 24 x 1T drives in it connected to a Sunfire x2250 running 5.8 ( 64 bit ) I used 'arcconf' to create a big RAID60 out of (see below). But then I mount it and it is way too small This should be about 20TB : [root at solexa1 StorMan]# df -h /dev/sdb1 Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdb1 186G 60M

Hey guys and gals, Anyone know of a half decent tool like DNSstuff.com only free? I need to run some diag on a few domains but it is basically a 1 shot deal and hard to justify buying. thanks, -Alan -- ?Don't eat anything you've ever seen advertised on TV? ? ? ? ?? - Michael Pollan, author of "In Defense of Food"

forcing yum to download but not install
Hey folks, Is there any way to fake a "yum update" just to get yum to force a download of all the files it needs, without actually installing them. I finally have a RPM cache/proxy working and I just want to populate it. The server I want to actually update cannot be updated until tomorrow but I'd like to do a fake update just to force the RPMs into my cache so they will all be

RAID card selection - JBOD mode / Linux RAID
I don't think this is off topic since I want to use JBOD mode so that Linux can do the RAID. I'm going to hopefully run this in CentOS 5 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a Sunfire x2250 Hard to get answers I can trust out of vendors :-) I have a Sun RAID card which I am pretty sure is LSI OEM. It is a 3G/s SAS1 with 2 external connectors like the one on the right here :

scripting CPAN installs
Hey folks, Maybe there is a Perl/CPAN list that is a better place to ask this? If so, maybe someone can point me to it. Anyway, I want to be able to script the installation of a bunch of CPAN modules, and the first basic problem I am coming up against is that the "cpan" command seems to always return 0 regardless of whether or not the install completed. Google does not bring up a

stupid Centos-DS questions
OK, I'm mostly through everything up to and including Chapter 5 in http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/dir-server/8.1/install/Installation_Guide-Advanced_Configuration-Making-DS.html And looking through the ToC for the rest, I do not see that my questions will be answered by this doc. So please feel free to point me to other docs. This manual seems to assuming I already know what it is I

problems building nfdump / nfsen
Hey folks, I posted this as part of another old thread but am starting a new thread for it because I got no response. I've also since found the nfdump mailing list but it seems to be dead. I was not able to find either of these guys in a CentOS repository anywhere, so I'm building them manually. Below was on CentOS 5.2. ---snip--- I'm going to kick this old thread because I'm

pgadmin3 missing dependencies
I searched the list archives and I found one answer to this which suggested I should install the PG yum repos. I don't like that answer for reasons which follow. I'm running Centos 6.0 freshly installed, and I've decided that with this box I'm sticking as much as possible to just the CentOS repos that go with that release. I figure in particular I do not need any PG features

SandForce SSD internal dedup
This article raises the concern that SSD controllers (in particular SandForce) do internal dedup, and in particular that this could defeat ditto-block style replication of critical metadata as done by filesystems including ZFS. http://storagemojo.com/2011/06/27/de-dup-too-much-of-good-thing/ Along with discussion of risk evaluation, it also suggests that filesystems could vary each copy in some

ZFS/ARC consuming all memory on heavy reads (w/ dedup enabled)
Greetings Gentlemen, I''m currently testing a new setup for a ZFS based storage system with dedup enabled. The system is setup on OI 148, which seems quite stable w/ dedup enabled (compared to the OpenSolaris snv_136 build I used before). One issue I ran into, however, is quite baffling: With iozone set to 32 threads, ZFS''s ARC seems to consume all available memory, making

Finding where dedup''d files are
Is there an easy way to find out what datasets have dedup''d data in them. Even better would be to discover which files in a particular dataset are dedup''d.
