puppet and domainnames
Hello all, when I do a signature request to puppetmaster, if no domainname is configured then puppet gets it from /etc/resolv.conf. Even if the "search" line is commented. I had to delete the search line in resolv.conf to obtain a signature request with hostname only, and then it appears with a final dot (hostname.). Is it that puppet does not like being domainless ? Many of my

Is = now the same as <- in assigning values
I?m a PhD student at the University of Warsaw, and have started using R. In many books they specify to use <- instead of = when assigning values, and this is also mentioned in older posts on the R website. However, it seams to me that some update has occured, becuase I continously get the same result wether I use <- or =. I would be extremely helpful for any answer to this. = seams more

read/write of Excel file is denied
Hi, One of my users is having this problem. He saved an MS Excel file on the UNIX disk and he always experienced cannot write to the file even if it is his file. I am not sure if this is the SAMBA problem or the NT problem(we are using Windows Terminal Server Edition). Sometimes, he experiences these message "cannot open read only file" or "this file is opened by administrator,

Total inertia in package Vegan?
Dear all at the R-project help list. I have run into a problem when it comes to getting values for "total inertia" and "R-squared" for my DCA using "decorana" in the package "vegan". I have tried the "goodness" function, but the reply indicates that it does not work with "decorana" class objects. In Canoco one gets the Total inertia in

Network stalls
Hello, I recently set a new server (a HP Proliant with 2 Quad Xeon 2GHz and 8GB RAM), with a Slackware 13 64Bits, where I installed Xen 4.0, with the kernel 2.6.31.13 (the same for dom0 and for domU), and I set up a virtual mail server from which several people retrieve its mail. When i try to download big files or retrieve big mails from that server, it often start to slow down to 4-5Kb/s

wine on powerpc report
Hi, list. I know this information won't be useful to most of you. I'm getting this error: preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00010000-00110000 err:dosmem:setup_dos_mem Cannot use first megabyte for DOS address space, please report I'm running wine 1.0.1 on a linux powerpc box. The error doesn't affect the applications I tried (winecfg, winemine, a flash PE binary...).

Ruby/LDAP on Rails
This is wierd. I''m trying to get Ruby/LDAP up and working, and at least the basics work fine under irb: irb(main):001:0> require ''ldap'' => true irb(main):002:0> LDAP::Conn.new() => #<LDAP::Conn:0x1b87ac> irb(main):003:0> So far, so good. All LDAP::Conn.new does is call ldap_init with host and port parameters, which in turn just allocates the

R:how to separate stuff?
Thanks for your help on moving files from S+ to R and on attaching directories. If attaching directories is NOT possible in R, is there any other way to separate objects into different folders or something similar? For example, to keep user functions for multivariate analysis in a different "place" than user functions on time series, or to keep data objects of project_1 in a different
