RFC: Multiple small releases, or one big roll-up?
Hi all, In looking at the current bug list for elmo[1], it''s pretty clear that this is a lot of work, and some of it is kind of segmented into related chunks. Additionally, a good bit of it has an impact on backward compatibility, although in nearly all cases I expect to be able to remain entirely or almost entirely backwards compatible. Given that, would people prefer that I

Which ruby postgresql driver is recommended in rails?
There are 3 ruby postgresql drivers, which is recommended for use in rails? * postgres * ruby-postgres * postgres-pr (pure ruby, too slow?) I checked these postgresql-related tickets in rails and there doesn''t seem to be any concensus. It it seems ticket #4461 (applied in latest edge) tries to make them work equally well--but it would be great if the rails team recommended one.

However, it is the last time code can be checked in without approval by the code owner. Please please please keep on

Polymorphic URL helpers documentation and fixes
Yesterday I answered a question regarding polymorphic URL helpers on Core ML and noticed that the module has no documentation. I''ve documented it and rewritten unit tests using Mocha. I also optimized some of the code slightly (nothing major, though). The patch also includes two fixes by Geoff Buesing, who has done awesome work in this area in the past.

Difficulties in trying to do a mixed effects model using the lmer function
Dear people of the help list I am drying to analyze my data using the 'lmer' function and I keep having problems. This is the model: > fm1<-lmer(dbh~spec+scheme+(1|Plot),data=d, REML=FALSE). I analyse tree size (dbh) of 3 different species (spec) and 3 planting schemes (scheme). I have 5 plots, which I hope to model as a random factor. (However, the subsequent output is based on

ANNOUNCE: External node attributes
Hi all, This just keeps coming up, again and again, so I decided to take a few hours and break everyone''s configuration. Oh, wait, just kidding. :) Really, I''ve completely rewritten external node support. Here''s the changelog entry: Only ONE node source can be used -- you can use LDAP, code, or an external node program, but not more than one.

SoundBlaster 16 removal impending
(Reply directly, as I''m not subscribed here.) As you may have seen, ARC recently approved my case to remove the ancient sbpro driver Solaris. I''m intent on doing that, because it really helps with our OSS integration effort, which I''m now leading. The problem is, will this impact qemu? I''m not sure of the answer. I *think* qemu emulates an older ESS1370

no applicable method for "names"
hi, after installing R-2.6.0 the function "names" doesn't work anymore on my windows xp machine. for example for a simple vector i get > z <- 1:3 > names(x) Error in UseMethod("name"): no applicable method for "names" ... instead of NULL. the same is true for lists and dataframes. attr(z, "names") is a workaround, but i don't want to

Lookup prior value in data.frame (was: Dismiss previous email)
Assuming that there is a -1 day for every day in the data frame and all the -1 days are at the beginning, try this where k[match(id, id)] is the vector of corresponding day -1 k-values: DF <- data.frame(id = c(56, 63, 73, 56, 63), day = c(-1, -1, -1, 2, 2), k = c(566, 680, 773, 298, 273)) transform(DF, percent = 100 * k / k[match(id, id)] - 100) Also, please use meaningful subject headings

Removing Inf and Inf values from a fata frame
Hi, I have a csv file with empty values, when I apply the different functions (mean, std, etc.) I create a new data frame, the empty values generate Inf and -Inf values. How can I remove those Inf and -Inf values from the new data frame? I already specified na.rm in the mean and std functions, but the values are still there. Thank you, Judith
