dvd+rw+r for FreeBSD
I'm not subscribed to this list; but I read that Matthew Dillon has ported the dvd+rw tools to FreeBSD. I just compiled and installed the application; but I can't burn to a DVD+RW on a Sony DRU-500A. command: growisofs -Z /dev/acd0c -rl ./testfile result: ":-( unable to CAMGETPASSTHRU for /dev/acd0c: Inappropriate ioctl for device" The DVD+RW website:

NEC 1300A DVD-R writing
Hi, so I just bought a NEC 1300A, primarily, because it allows me to write DVD+ and -RW. Using DVD-R discs (and currently no options to try other media, due to shops being closed), I'm unable to write anything, using either the dvd+rwtools port, or the dvdrtools. I've exhausted all references to be found in google, which are in a language I understand, so I'm hoping the list can

dvd+rw-format -force problem
Hi, I haven't felt the need to fully blank a DVD+RW for a while untill today. In between the last time and now, I both did a cvsup of STABLE and the port of sysutils/dvd+rw-tools was upgraded. Hence - I'm not sure which could be contributed to the cause. The problem is the following: When issuing: dvd+rw-format -force /dev/cd0c it fails, with 'unable to unmount' error. A

Update ports on 6.3 or update OS to 7.1(RC2) and update ports?
I have a machine where several of my installed applications are getting way behind. It is not a mission critical server, but I need it to be stable (I have all fairly old well supported hardware, nothing special). Since updating and rebuilding all the ports is pretty much mandatory for the upgrade to 7.x and I plan to take that path soon, would most people consider 7.1RC2 stable enough for a

FreeBSD doesn't find my CD-RW and sometimes my DVD
Hi , I'm disperated I've recently installed FreeBSD 4.8 ,and all at the first look was ok , this was only a try in a small partition , and now I have decided to install it in a bigger partition , so I've downloaded the 5.1 ISO (to give it a try too) and I've tried to BURN it with "burncd" . Now, I've noticed that in the DEV directory there are the devices

Setting CDROM parms
My apologies in advance for asking such an elementary question. I called myself searching the Installation Guide and Deployment Guide, with no success. The situation is that I bought a Lite-On ATAPI iHAP122 that will not burn DVDs unless I use hdparm to turn dma off. I bought that drive because it was a rare beige drive. Until I can find a decent DVD burner and/or get a Windows machine put

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive [SOLVED]
On the system I'm testing with the CD-Rom drive is IDE but the softlink at /dev/cdrom points to the scsi device and that's not working with the automounter for some reason. Each time I reinstall I have to delete the soft link and recreate it pointing at /dev/hda instead. > -----Original Message----- > From: centos-bounces at centos.org > [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org]

shared storage: rw on one node and ro on second node
Hi list, I recently came up with the need for the storage, shared between two nodes; one would do all the r/w to it and the other would mount it r/o and serve it to the client boxen. I want to use ext3 in this setup, since i trust it the most. My question is: is this possible? How would the r/o node handle the metadata updates that the r/w node would be doing? If there is some fundamental

Feature-beg: remounting from ro to rw allows changing data=x
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I was a thread on the list archive from a few months ago, about a user who had added 'data=journal' in /etc/fstab. The system stopped working properly because the device couldn't be remounted rw after fsck ran - because ext3 wouldn't allow changing the journalling options on remount. I can understand that changing data=x in general

partition not found when remounting in RW mode
Hi, I installed RH 7.2 with the original kernel and decided to use ext3 as the fs. All partitions are now ext3. This is working fine as long as I'm using the original kernels. Now I wanted to compile my own kernel (2.4.13), but there seems to be a problem. When it it tries to remount my root partition / in RW, I get an error message that the partition cannot be found. When I reboot using the
