wineboot && wineserver
Hi all,
I'm currently writing a simple script for a few friends to install a
soft with wine.
The point is wineserver is not in the path of my user. Should I call it
directly from /usr/lib/wine ?
Another wine bin is not found : wineboot ? Is it linked with my distro
(Kubuntu/Debian based) ? Is it included in a lib I did not install ? Is
it installed in further versions (I use 20041019,

Why is wineprefixcreate deprecated?
I understand that it is applied automatically when needed, but there are times when one would want to run it manually. An example is when I want to literally create a new wine prefix such as
env WINEPREFIX="/home/bamm/apps/myprog" wineprefixcreate
to prepare a clean profile for future installation of myprog. I know that running setup with a WINEPREFIX would create the clean profile,

Wine taking unacceptably long to start up (Fedora 14 x86_64)
Whenever I run any application with wine it takes upwards of five minutes to start, even apps included with wine like wine cmd. I have been googling this for hours and cannot find anything really applicable to my situation.
I am running Fedora 14 x86_64.
I don't have a network printer.
As far as I am aware fc-cache-32 doesn't exist on Fedora.
I am trying to get some other program to

exec: 29: /usr/bin/wine: not found
Hi,
I?ve installed wine on Ubuntu 6.10 64bit using the following guide :
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185557
but, when I type winecfg in Terminal I get the following error :
exec: 29: /usr/bin/wine: not found
Dunno if it may help, but here?s a terminal shot of when wine was
getting installed.

Wineserver causing heavy CPU load
I am running Fedora 8 uname -r = 2.6.24.4-64.fc8 on my box with Wine 0.9.58. When I first installed it I noticed that my CPU usage jumped and stayed at 100% with wineserver taking > 85%. I killed the wineserver process and it dropped down, however it soon jumped back up when wineserver restarted itself. I then killed it again and all related processes and disabled it from starting as a damen

WINEPREFIX
I'm trying to run different win32 apps with different configs.
i was looking thru the man page and found the WINEPREFIX.
i added export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine.icad to my script that i use to
launch my application. It seems to find it, but now i'm getting:
$ icad
wineserver: mkdir /.wine.icad/wineserver-atlanta.ga : No such file or
directory
ok, i obviously did not understand something.

Cannot use PREFIX with wine 1.1.4
I've decided to try out some games with wine 1.1.4 to see if there is improvements (mainly with Bioshock) and, as always, I first created a prefix for those tests.
My first surprise was this message :
Code:
Note: wineprefixcreate is deprecated and shouldn't be needed anymore.
WINEPREFIX creation and updates now happen automatically when needed.
So I said : "it's

Wineboot
I keep getting prompted by wine that I need to reboot every time I try to install a program. I did a search and I believe my issue is that I need to use wineboot to simulate a windows restart. When I try to run the command wineboot I get an error that says wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\wineboot.exe"
I've found a few posts on this, but no helpful answers yet. Is this

Wine 1.1.7 and 1.0.1 not working on Intrepid 64 bit
I posted this on Ubuntuforums but after reading a bit more it seems this is mostly used for gaming questions so I decided to come here.
I am running 64 bit Ubuntu intrepid (still a beta but a release candidate). I can see Wine in my application menu but when I go to Programs/Acessories/Notepad nothing happens. I am unable to open the configuration nor am I able to uninstall using the Applications

wineboot error
Hi All,
I am running 1.4
Under my original WINEPREFIX, when I start any program, I get:
> wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\wineboot.exe"
> err:process:start_wineboot failed to start wineboot, err 2
But not under a clean, alternate WINEPREFIX. How do I troubleshoot this error under my original WINEPREFIX?
Many thanks,

D drive
Hello all,
I have installed Wine on Opensuse 10.3 and it works great. I need it to use a historical research program where the utility is on the C:/ drive and the data on the D:/ drive.
So, the program works on a very old Window 98 computer and in order to use it, the CD with data on it must be in the CD drive.
I installed Wine, copied the all the files in /home/me/.wine/c_drive/windows/

internet explorer
Hello,
Has anyone succeed to install Internet Explorer with wine-20041019 ? For
what I have seen from winehq it should be possible but I have not
succeeded. Which dlls and which config must I have ? I have tried with
ie5 and ie6. I suspect I must have some native dlls but I do not know
which and which config must I have.

migrating windows applications by packing wine+app in a deb?
Hello,
I recently posted my experimental thoughts in the playonlinux forums, but I really want to open all possible channels to get feedback for the idea to deliver a complete (for the certain windows-app optimized) wine-structure, windows app and all nessassary wrapper scripts for processing the app in a deb.
This would mean that every single application(-group) brings its own fitting

[Wiki] Possible error in documentation wineboot
Hello, I am translating some pages of Wiki of Wine into Spanish:
In http://wiki.winehq.org/wineboot the first line says:
wineboot preforms actions that would normally be done ...
There might be
wineboot performs actions that would normally be done
I am not quite sure, but to translate it was not much meaning in the phrase to the word "preforms."
On the other hand, I would like

Duke Nukem Forever Demo (Steam) not launching
Got someone this demo working? 50,- EUR is a lot money to me so I like to play the demo first. But it seems to be impossible?
I have latest Wine from GIT and did the required winetricks steps (dinput8, xinput, removed asterisk from dinput8 user.reg line, added xinput1_3 (with native only) to winecfg, corefonts, tahoma installed; all done in a new wine bottle aka. WINEPREFIX). A +d3d logfile
