making new initrd, how to do it?
I have installed the xen 3.1.0 x86_64 tarball
compiled for RHEL5 on a RHEL5 system. The system in question
was able to boot with the xen kernel that came with RHEL5.
I untarred the tarball, and did
cd /boot
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.6.18-xen.img 2.6.18-xen
The command exited properly and made a initrd image.
The machine booted with a grub.conf entry like this:

windows 2003
I have finally gotten one version of windows 2003 r2 x64 installed as a
guest.
The bad news is no network.
The network tab says it''s a realtek 8139 when I know it is a intel. I tried
downloading the intel drivers and they wont install says it''s the wrong hard
ware. Is this common that it uses a 8139 as a generic network card?
Also the network card shows

with the distribution, I didn''t compile it from source. I can boot

Problem getting x86_64 dom0 to boot on a FC4 machine
I''m struggling to get Xen to boot on a FC4 Opteron box. I''ve included the
tail of the boot log below [1]. I suspect that the problems relates to the
software RAID 1 root and boot partitions, and how it relates to the initrd
image. The RAID volumes fail to mount.
I compiled the Xen snapshot from the 23rd September, and the only change
I''ve made is to enable the

xen-3.0-x86_32 not supported by xen kernel
I build a DomU kernel on RHEL AS5.1. But when I boot this Guest DomU with the kernel, it gives me error message:
Error: (2, ''Invalid kernel'', ''xc_dom_compat_check: guest type xen-3.0-x86_32 not supported by xen kernel, sorry\n'')
Can someone give me any suggestion about this problem?
Thank you!

couple questions about initrd.img
here's hoping this is on topic. as part of the extra goodies i'm
going to give my RHEL/centos basic admin class this week, i'm going to
get them to open up the standard initrd.img file and see what's
inside. i just did that myself and have a couple simple questions.
first, while the cpio archive physically contains a number of basic
/dev special files, the top-level

Booting to USB Pen Drive
I am trying to use Syslinux as my boot loader for a stripped down
version of Knoppix (DSL) on a USB Pen Drive. I followed the instructions
verbatim on
http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb/knoppix-usb.html, but
no luck. The system will start to boot to the USB, but gives a Kernel
Panic. I will give all information that shows on the screen.
After I select Boot from USB (which on my

Problems installing guest domains
Hi,
I am trying out Xen for the first time and I am having a few problems
with getting it working. The computer is a quad core Intel Xeon with VT
enabled, 8gb of RAM and 2 x 15,000rpm SAS drives in RAID1.
I have installed CentOS 5 64bit and installed Xen 3.3.0 via yum. I have
successfully booted in to dom0. Here is my grub.conf on dom0:

[PATCH supermin 0/2] Allow an alternate libc to be used for init.
v1 -> v2:
- If we split out the init program into a separate init/ directory,
that makes it much easier to build against an alternate libc.
I tried to build against uClibc, but uClibc requires an entire build
chain, which looked like it was going to be a massive ballache.

potential wiki on encryption
Hello all,
I posted the whole disk encryption instructions in the forum that has been briefly discussed on the list. I joined the list per Ned's post on the thread.

I have a couple of questions about the process of creating a wiki.
1. How does the peer-review process work?

virt-df stuck at supermin: [...] waiting for /sys/block/sdb/dev to appear
This problem occurs on certain machines but I can't tell why and how
exactly to fix it.
The message suggests a problem with kernel modules, but they all seem to
load successfully, including many virtio modules.
Best Regards,
Peter
