paired t-test with bootstrap
Dear Sirs, I am a R beginning user: by mean of R I would like to apply the bootstrap to my data in order to test cost differences between independent or paired samples of people affected by a certain disease. My problem is that even if I am reading the book by Efron (introduction to the bootstrap), looking at the examples in internet and available in R, learning a lot of theoretical things on

ext3 on zvols journal performance pathologies?
I''ve been seeing read and write performance pathologies with Linux ext3 over iSCSI to zvols, especially with small writes. Does running a journalled filesystem to a zvol turn the block storage into swiss cheese? I am considering serving ext3 journals (and possibly swap too) off a raw, hardware-mirrored device. Before I do (and I''ll write up any results) I''d like to know

Estimating correlation in multiple measures data
Dear R-helpers, This may sound simple to you, but I'm a beginner in this, so please be forgiving. I have a following problem: two analytes were measured in patient's blood on 4 occasions: ProteinA and ProteinB. How to correctly evaluate correlation between ProteinA and ProteinB? I tried: x <- data.frame(Patient.ID=rep(1:10, each=4), Visit=rep(c(1:4),10), ProteinA=rnorm(m=10,

ERROR need finite 'ylim' values
Hello: I use R with MAC I have a simple data table, numeric and text columns, named dt. The table is imported through read.csv from a csv file. Row numbers are automatically assigned, header is set to TRUE. there are 599 rows and several columns. I am trying to plot using the stripchart command: one numeric variable (say dt$fnatg) vs a text column (say dt$pat). dt$pat contains one of 3 values:

residual plots for lmer in lme4 package
Hi, I was wondering if I might be able to ask some advice about doing residual plots for the lmer function in the lme4 package. Our group's aim is to find if the expression staining of a particular gene in a sample (or "core") is related to the pathology of the core. To do this, we used the lmer function to perform a logistic mixed model below. I apologise in advance

Exceptional slowness with read.csv
No idea, but have you tried using ?scan to read those next 5 rows? It might give you a better idea of the pathologies that are causing problems. For example, an unmatched quote might result in some huge number of characters trying to be read into a single element of a character variable. As your previous respondent said, resolving such problems can be a challenge. Cheers, Bert On Mon, Apr 8,

read.table - reading text variables as text
Hi I'm reading a CSV file using read.table, and it keeps importing a text variable as a factor. To overcome this, I've used the as.is command referring to the variable in question (called "stim") data<-read.table(file.choose(), header=T, sep=",", as.is = "stim") However, "stim" is still imported as a factor. I notice there are other read.table

plot.baysian error = only 0's may mix with negative subscripts
Dear R users and developers After upgrading to Windows XP and R 1.9.1 and 2.0, I retried to execute plot.baysian() to a data set that I had used previously to plot with no problem in win2000 R1.8. The error I get is: Error in points(Mbar[-index], lods[-index], pch = ".") : only 0's may mix with negative subscripts Thanx in advance Dino P.S. I allready sent this message

Data Censoring and Normality Tests
Hello, I would like to know if there is a function in R that will test for normality and handle censored data sets. Currently, I evaluate each censored data set by the extent to which a normal scores plot approximate a straight line. For complete data sets I use shapiro.test(). Below is an example of a censored data set. data1<-c(0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 5.86, 5.17, 8.17, 5.12, 4.92, 7.08,

ROC for threshold value, biometrics
Hello, I am just a beginner of R 1.9.0. I try to construct a predictive score for the development of liver cancer in cirrhotic patients. So dependant variable is binanry (cancer yes or no). Independant variables are biological data. The aim is to find out a cut-off value which differentiate (theoratically) from normal to pathological state for each biological data. How can I step in procedue to

hi I don't have experience at all with networks but I was triyng to install and configure tinc as a platform for multiplayer games that need to be run on a LAN. The computers run with Windows XP so I followed the example posted in the website for installation in windows. Everything is pretty clear and step-by-step, but when trying to generate the keys I get the following message: Cannot open

Potential bug in utils::citation()
Hi, I believe the function utils::citation() will fail if the package specified has two or more citation entries in the current R-devel. The following error is issued: 'missing' can only be used for arguments I have created a working example on github [0] that is build using R-devel on travis-ci [1]. Jim Hester has potentially identified [2] the source of the problem as being from a

Asterisk Security Audit?
Has Asterisk ever been audited for common security holes, such as buffer overruns? A quick grep through the source for routines that should never be used, like strcpy, strcat, etc., reveals a lot of it. I fear I fear. Has anyone flung pathology at IAX2 to see if it stands up to malformed packets? (This is always an issue when you have a protocol that only a small number of programs use ...) I

Problem with by(... , median)
Hello everyone, I am new to R, I have been using SAS for a while. Not surprisingly, I find R much better in graphics, which is publication ready right away. Recently, I have been trying to calculate some basic statistics using R. I have a dataset of multiple rows per subject. For example: Subject Date Factor1 Factor2 Factor3 P1 0.5 1 1 3 P1 1 3 2 5 P1 2 3 5 NA ... P2 0.5 1 6 4 P2 1 2 NA 7 P2
