Wine-Winetricks-Directx Tomb Raider Underworld
Greetings to all,
I've installed Tomb Raider Underworld, but when I tried to play I got the following message:
Code:
"Tomb Raider: Underworld Error"
"This game requires a DirectX9.0c capable graphics card. your card or driver does not support DirectX9.0c 3D Acceleration."
I've winetricks installed and I installed: "d3dx9", "physx" and I still

No sound in HOMEFRONT
I just installed Homefront. The installation went fine. I looked up AppDB entry on it and it looks like the other person rated it silver (albeit he's running Mac OS), with some annoying mouse bug. He did winetricks directx9 directsound physx. I did nothing of those and it still worked.
Anyway, when I run the game, there's no music/sound in the menu. Then I started a new campaign, and the

Mass Effect and dinput8
Hello.
I had Mass Effect working really well awhile ago with wine 1.2. Somehow the particular prefix I used for it got deleted, and I've forgotten the magic combination I used to get it running. I was using the mouse patch from http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25097 and had set MouseWarpOverride to force-box in the registry, as well as using winetricks to install dotnet 20,

Wine Ubuntu 10.04 Eve Online freeze crash whole system
[background]
I had Ubuntu 10.04 loaded from a CD. CD failed to directly install, instead required that I go into the live session from the CD and then install.
Loaded eve online with all those funny command codes you never see in windows like PPA:wine-somethingorother, and put in winetricks as well.
used winetricks to install core fonts and d3dx9 set to opengl orm = backbuffer and all that

Problems with Directx
Ever since 1.1.27, I've been having problems with what I think is directx. I updated to 1.1.29 (I skipped .28) and I still get the same errors. I've tried using winetricks to install Directx9, but it doesn't do much to alleviate the problem. I've completely deleted my .wine folder and reinstalled 1.1.29 from scratch, but I still get the problem. I have the latest nVidia drivers

City of Heroes / wine not identifying NVIDIA video card
I've been using wine for some time now to play City of Heroes and overall I've been very satisfied. One issue that has always bothered me is that COH gives a warning about outdated video card drivers even with the most recent drivers from NVIDIA installed. This limits the settings that can be chosen in the video options. I also suspect it's not making the most efficient use of my

PhysX
Does anyone know how to get PhysX (http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_8.09.04_whql.html) working? Some games, for example Pirates of the Burning Sea, require that PhysX is installed. This is what I get when I run the installer:

Guild Wars - Direct3D8 is not available without OpenGL.
Hello everyone!
As one might think from my subject line this thread seems to be about the usual no-32bit-OpenGL-libraries-installed issue, that Google is full of when you are looking for a solution.
My problem is a bit different: My system is 64bit, indeed, but the 32 bit graphics libraries/drivers are installed.
32bit native games like Enemy Territory run fine.
GuildWars starts with the

SOLVED: World of Warcraft d3d crash and rendring problems
Hi wine people,
with some help from the Nvidia forum I managed to solve a problem with World of Warcraft 4.x.x that I suspect is directX / Wine related:
Enabling -d3d9 and -d3d11 would cause the below mentioned problem with Wine 1.2.2, while it would crash World of Warcraft program under Wine 1.3.15 (Ubuntu 11.04 debs), while OpenGL runs perfectly (30-60 fps with all opengl settings on ultra):

Anyone using Oneric suddenly having Wine/OpenGL problems?
So last night I try to start L4D2 (which previously worked), and am seeing this dreaded message as the first in the console:
Code:
err:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo couldn't initialize OpenGL, expect problems
This is happening both with the latest Wine from git and from the prebuilt 1.3 package in the Oneiric repos. It was all working fine when I last tested (using my git build) a

steam games not running
Hey,
I am trying to get steam/steam-gaming working on my system. I have gotten the steam client working, but fail to launch games. I will be using half-life as the game I am trying to launch for this topic as it is one that most people can get running as far as i can tell.
I have a x86_64 intel i7 system with a nVidia GT218 [NVS 3100M] graphics card.
I am running Fedora 13

Wine, Wow Cata and D3D
Running Ubuntu 10.04, Nvidia driver version 260.19.29, 3 GB RAM, AMD Phenom Quad-Core, wine-1.3.11.
I notice no difference in performance whether OpenGL is enabled or not. Does this mean D3D is now working and I don't need OpenGL now?
I get close to 80fps in some places, which is great, but in a raid or other places with a lot of toons and activitiy, Wow practically freezes up and becomes

Re: Wow crach.. I use bumblebee to activate nvidia optimus
I also struggled with this, but finally got it to work. I had to skip the -opengl opion and only run it as
optirun wine Wow*exe
No problems and no cashes during install.
Somebody also hinted setting operating system to Windows7 in winecfg. Other hints were to download the corefonts and ie8 with winetricks, and, ofc, you also need wine_gecko from you own distro, otherwise wine will complain or

Re: Wine and WoW Cataclysm Patch 4.0 troubleshooting thread
That's what I'm going to do, after purging all the current nvidia stuff frommy system.
The second thing I'm going to do is download, build and install the latest decent version of Wine.
Thanks for all your advice. It's been really helpful.

One more question. What with OpenGL support getting dropped from WoW, I was wondering if it was worth trying to use DirectX under
