Hi all,
I Use thunderbird and firefox, and sometimes Seamonkey on my job (onto windows 7, 64 bits) and at home (under Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits), so for that, I use Wine, which was very nice until few weeks when I had error message and that doesn't worked more...
For this use, I use portable software (from portable apps), and I already post my problem on other forums

FirefoxPortable and ThunderbirdPortable and Wine 1.3.5
Hi,
I've a problem with FirefoxPortable and ThunderbirdPortable (a version of Firefox and Thunderbird from PortableApps).
The were running fine until some weeks ago but, I guess after a system upgrade (I use arch linux) which included wine upgrade they don't start anymore.
Anyone has experience of them working under wine 1.3.5 (the current versione of wine)?
Or has an idea about the cause

can't create directories/files on network share
Hey folks, I'm experiencing some weird errors all of a sudden. I have
not made any changes to the config but for some reason I cannot create
files/directories on my network share. An example would be the error I
get when I try to update the virus signatures on my portable ClamWin
install:

[Fwd: Encoding: theora legalities]
Hello Sime,
I have forwarded this message to GPL-Violations. While it isn't a
violation, it is trying to prevent any and it would be far better for
everyone if you were given the correct information from the beginning.

question about WINEPREFIX
I wanted to ask to the wine experts something about WINEPREFIX or the crossover bottles...
how does the concept of "bottles" compares/differs with the concept of application virtualization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_Virtualization) used by VMware's Thinstall (http://www.thinstall.com/products/virtualization_suite.php) (aside for the .exe container*) and

Windows RPC and samba
Hello
Please can you tell (write ;-) me, whether there is some possibility to use
samba as some RPC proxy for windows RPC functions? If I have a simple client
server application, that uses RPC, it works fine in one network, but when I
want to have each (client and also server) in different private network, I'll
need to use sime kind of RPC over http or som RPC support from IIS or such

Remotely executing scheduled tasks
>From another Windows system using schtasks.exe a scheduled task can be
executed with the following syntax:
schtasks /Run /TN "Backups" /S "remote_system_name"
I suppose the Unix/SSH equivalent is:
ssh user@"remote_system_name" /usr/local/bin/backups.sh
Is there samba client for schtask.exe ?

Is R portable?
Recently I came across an interesting web site:
http://portableapps.com/. The idea is simple, this is software that
is possible to install and run on some type of USB memory, a stick or
one of these hard disks. I can think of a number of situations where
this could be handy. In addition memory sticks are getting cheaper
and more powerful by the day.
So: Is it possible to run R off one of

Font problem
I run Thunderbird from PortableApps under wine, on a SuSE Linux 11.2
system and have a small annoyance that I would like to resolve. Whenever
the less than character is displayed - < it is presented as a small box
with the characters 003C inside the box... Most other characters seem to
display ok, just this one is messed up... Any ideas how to fix? I ran

VMware Thinapp and Kace Repackager + Adobe CS5
I've read the DB for Adobe Photoshop CS5, and a member mentioned using Kace Repackager to create a installable MSI package. I cant find much docs or guides to using the program and Im having trouble using it. I would select Setup.exe for the Photoshop or Dreamweaver installation, allow it to pre and post scan the changes and the result is a unexpected small .msi file. How do you use this msi

Encoding: theora legalities
Hi,
I am having trouble understanding the legalities of the whole encoding
issue. Here is what I am trying to do:
Problem: We get 17GB's worth of 12 second long mpeg2 video clips from a
capture card. We want some way of compressing these clips so that we can
save space and bandwidth. These clips are used in an activity that
generates income (nothing sinister).
Proposed solution: Use

Encoding problems.
Hello,
I use:
R version 2.9.2 (2009-08-24)
Copyright (C) 2009 The R Foundation for Statistical Computing
ISBN 3-900051-07-0
on Ubuntu 9.10, I usually run R from ESS (5.4 on current Unbuntu) from
Emacs-22.2.1. But I also tried the following from the console and it
gave the same results.
I have a data file containing lots of European characters, French,
German, Italian and so on. I can read it

[airween@gmail.com: DC's are still unavailable when PDC halted]
Hi folks,
sorry for the re-post, I need some help to solve this problem.
Since my previous e-mail, we made a set-up: there is a Clear Pass
device (Aruba), which controlls the network access for users.
Between the CP and these two DC's there is a load balancer.
But, when we stopped the DC1, which was set up first, and the DC2
works continously, then the authentication of users is stopped
