Questions regarding virtual desktops
Hi all, I have a question regarding modal forms and virtual desktops. I have win app that uses modal forms for input. If I use app without virtual desktop I have problem because use can click on nonmodal form which then hides. Well it's annoying and I saw on some other thread that this is by design. Everything work fine with VD. But some new problems / questions arrives. 1. is it possible to

question on virtual desktops
centos has the 4 virtual desktops by default. if I have a terminal window open in desktop 1 is there a command I can execute (type in) to switch to desktop 2? The mouse will not be attached at this point and I want to switch views using a command line. How do I do that? Thanks, Jerry

building virtual desktops with libvirt, KVM, SPICE and GNOME
Can anybody comment on how to host virtual desktops on a headless server using libvirt and KVM on the server and a SPICE client to access the virtual desktop? Is there a standard way of doing this? I've seen many fragments of information about how to do this but I didn't come across a single guide describing the entire solution. Search engines also return a lot of information about

WoW hardware cursor hack, Eve virtual desktops & CSS voice.
Wine 1.2-rc2 Ubuntu 9.10 I'm following instructins on tweaking World of Warcraft and wondering if a hardware cursor hack referenced under 'Step 2: Configuring' at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=17421 would have any adverse effects on other games? Would I need to edit it to account for the fact I already have Wine 1.2-rc2 installed from the Wine

OT: Firefox lockdown policies for CentOS7 desktops
Hi all, I am doing some tests with my CentOS7 desktop. I have configured a policy to lockdown Chrome/Chromium browsers and it works perfectly. And I am trying to the same for Firefox browsers but Firefox's docs are really "hard" to understand. I have the following stopper points: a/ what is the "real" system wide's config file: firefox.js, sysprefs.js or

Different Desktops
Is there a way in CENTOS 4.1 to set up users with different default desktops so that they do not have to select it via the sessions selection on the login screen? Example: user1 default desktop login is Gnome user2 default desktop login is KDE etc....

Re: Virtual gaming/workstation desktops using KVM VGA passthrough?
Hi Alex, The first bit of advice that I was about to give was that you should have a look at a particular thread on the Arch Linux user forum. But as it turns out, the article that you found (which seems really well-written) already mentions that thread, and in fact even links to one of my comments on that thread, namely this comment: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1313007#p1313007

Using eth0 on desktops with single network interface
What is the best way to stop CentOS 6 from renaming the eth0 interface to em1? I've googled a bit and found many relevant posts, but have still not come up with an elegant solution. One of the resources I found was http://www.arachnoid.com/linux/network_names/index.html, and while the Python script contained therein does create a new udev rule that renames em1 back to eth0 it feels kludgy

Desktops for non-roaming profiles
Hi list, In my current organization, we aren't going to be using roaming profiles (for various reasons, it's not desired). I'm moving us from no domain controller to Samba as a PDC (with an OpenLDAP backend), and I'm trying to make the process as invisible as possible to the end users. Each XP user's local desktop exists at: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>

films on Desktops and roaming profiles
Hi, I'd like to ask you what do you limit Desktops syncing in case users put large files on them, e.g. films. Downloading / uploading such large files can generate lots of unnecessary traffic. Is there any kind of filtering possible ? Other solutions ? Cheers, -- Michal Kurowski perl -e '$_=q#: 13_2: 12/o{>: 8_4) (_4: 6/2^-2; 3;-2^\2: 5/7\_/\7: 12m m::#;

Roaming Desktops with Linux Clients
Hi, I have Samba setup on a Debian server and have implemented roaming desktops for the windows clients. In this network, there are also LINUX clients that i would like to use roaming desktops and the users be able to access their home directory on the server when they login to one of these linux clients. Is this possible using Samba? And can anyone point me to a website/tutorial or any

[META] suggestions for managing users desktops
Hi, Sorry if this is slightly OT. I have just moved from a WindowNT domain to a Samba3x PDC. What I'd really like now is some tools to help me manage users. Some of the things on my wish list are to be able to edit a remote registry (the user's profiles are local) and Remote desktop access so I do not have to run over their desks every time there is a message they don't understand.

Wine Virtual Desktop Question
I've got Lord of the Rings Online working under wine, but the only problem is, it has to be played in full-screen, or else i get a "Must be ran in 16-bit / 32-bit color mode". Running it full-screen via virtual desktop would be no problem, however, when done, i cannot use wine to start Ventrilo. When i start ventrilo via wine after i start up LotRO, it starts in the same window as

Wine virtual desktop + multiple applications running
I'm playing Anarchy Online through Wine on Ubuntu system. The game doesn't run on windowed mode so I'm forced to use fullscreen, however this is not the issue since I'm using virtual desktop emulation that gives me the window in which I can play the game and also Alt+Tab to other programs. Thing is that I'm using this addon thingie called Clicksaver while playing the game.
