After a long break, one more try at bond/bridge nics
took a couple months off due to road blocks, hoping a fresh look would allow me to use my server as desired. I have three ports, eth0-2 over two nics. I want to bond them, and then use a bridge to connect to virtual machines on the virtual host computer. Never having done this, I am confused on some parts. Here is where I am at now and any pointers helpful. Single server, centos 6.x My issue

reinventing the wheel? page checker
Not sure if there is an app like this yet. I want to keep tabs on my web applications and thought of using a 'page checker'/ I was thinking either running a sum on the directory or each file...but thinking a simple date check would be fine. The idea is web application, except the uploads area for photos, never has changes to its files except when I change it. However, if it gets

DKIM
Okay, Yahoo is bumming me. Only system my mail is having an issue with. All mail is accepted, but junked. I can only think it is the DKIM/Domain keys. It is apparent that the dkim-milter is not part of the centos 5.x distro nor is it part of the mirrors, as far as I can tell. So...have any of you done it with your servers for sendmail? There are some sites that claim to have rpms and I have

bridging bonded NICs, centos6
Trying to think this through, hope someone can lend a hand. I have 3 eths I want to bond together and that seems simple enough. eth0,1,2 <-> bond0 , though not sure how this would be for multiple ip addresses needed for the virtual machines... perhaps eth:0, eth:1 etc....to bond0:1, bond0:2 ? then I want to bridge to my virtual machines.... I am going to be using virtual machines, each

redhat vs centos
I have been reading the threads on here with great ernest about redhat making a move to throw off centos compilations. I read some stories about microsoft wanting to work closer with centos http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/17/microsoft_and_centos/ I have to update to centos 6 due to some needs of clients who need newer mysql and php (and installing them on centos5 was too hard for me). I

Centos convert to rhel?
Hate to ask, but after reading the last few months of centos history online I am worried. And to learn the lead guy seems to have absconded with the cash and left all the hard working devs high and dry..well that is scary. They all worked so hard and who knows what will happen now. If centos falls I have no choice but to go to redhat. I am wondering if the conversion will be easy or a complete

oops, or how to bring a datacenter router down with one setting
so I gave up on bonding. I found about 300 posts showing eth0 and eth1 both pointing to br0 (bridge) as interfaces. I followed them correctly, or so I thought. I pointed both ethx to the bridge, restarted network and bam...!!! entire ip block went out. when I called datacenter they told me the router was under attack and I was like 'uh oh' and told them to just shut off my computer I

restrict postfix to only certain users getting incoming mail
Perhaps I am trying to do the impossible. centos6, spamassassin, procmail, dovecot, postfix. Postfix, by default, accepts all incoming mail to any user listed in the shadow/passwd and alias files. I cannot find a way to stop that without manually blocking each non wanted user (like nobody, apache) without killing local delivery. For most of the users listed in those files, who cares. However

control panels, like or dislike?
When I first started using webservers I leased shared hosting. Then I moved to vps. Then to dedicated. In all that I was with various control panels. In almost all cases bugs in those control panels would cause all sorts of issues. (ensim, cpanel, plesk). The load on the server seemed greatly increased (especially with ensim). When I built my first server 4 years ago I decided to heck with

prediction in a loop with only one sample
Dear all, I have a sample with 920 observations. I want to create a loop which takes 300 of these observations for the prediction and the rest to estimate the model. My idea was to create something like this: cs.training.dat <- read.table... cs.training.dat_sub1 <- subset(cs.training.dat, Income>10) cs.training.dat_sub2 <- subset(cs.training.dat_sub1, Dept.Ratio<=1)

your advice on backup procedure
Hello all, I am down to my last hurdle of my project, backups. I am thinking of three different ways to go and wanted to ask for input on what you think is the better choice. Not asking for 'how to' but more of 'what is best in your experience' The scenario... centos server acting as a virtual host. Virtual machines are webservers and dns servers. All on one machine, all running

Tmp directory and sticky
I noticed after my install that the tmp directory was A- not a sticky B- still executable I went and changed etc/fstab to add loop, noexec, nosuid,rw, which I hope is the right thing to do. I rebooted and it looks like it worked. When doing an ls -l on the main directory, the tmp folder lit up all green in putty (cool, I hope) But the chmods I did with winscp will not take effect (they do on

Forming SQL Query at run-time
Hi. I am trying to get data from mysql database using a couple of queries. I do one query to find out the indexes. Then i need to use these indexes in another query, but i keep getting errors. Here is something: numb <- dbSendQuery(con2, "select distinct(comparison) from table1") count <- fetch(numb, -1) my.matrix <- as.matrix(count) rs <- dbSendQuery(con2, "select

how is this possible?
I got a spam today (from a yahoo server, surprise!) with nothing but a single link. http:// 2927755261/ I separated the http so it would not be a link in your email... suggest not going to it without proper measures. it takes you to a record search site. When I look up this number block here, http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/2927755261 it comes up with a different ip address... The ip

does a factorial function exist
I've looked through the documentation with R-0.64.1 and have been unable to find a high-level function for evaluation of factorials (i.e., n!, not factorial designs). Is there such a function? It is trivial to code, so everyone could write their own, but it also would be worthwhile as a standard tool. I'm guessing I am just overlooking it.

Bridging on the blink with greater than 2 xen domains
Hi, My bridging stops when I start a third Xen domain !?!? I have a few domains setup (mail, wiki, pbx). If I start two domains bridge networking works great. But if I start a third, either the new domains does not work or one of the other DomUs stops working! By stop working I mean I can''t route traffic outside of Dom0. I have been looking at this on and off for a couple of weeks.

add on sata card relabeling drives, installation
Hi all. I have a new server and am playing with the installation. (centos 6). My onboard sata card has 6 drives attached to it, yet the server has 8 bays. I bought a sata controller card (adaptec) and added it to the mix, adding two more drives. Everything works and all is accessible, but there is one annoying issue. When installing with anaconda, the 2 drives located on the add-on sata card

Logwatch / spamassassin
Hi all, Well it took a while for me to figure it out, but apparently my logwatch no longer can be mailed locally on my computer as I believe spamassassin is eating it. I can send it out to an email address outside my server though. So spamassassin is only checking incoming I guess. My question is....how do I...or should I.... Make all local mail go straight to the boxes and skip spamasassin

Seeing the IP addresses of domUs from dom0
Using a default xen3.0.1 setup for dom0(rhel4 distro) and domUs (gentoo, rhel4, centos4.2 distros, ttylinux) with the domUs all having dhcp turned on, is there an easy way to tell from within the dom0 what ip addresses were assigned to the domUs after bootup? called a spammer today
thought you would find this interesting... I get a LOT of political spam on one of my mails due to hosting a political site once. I have been slowly blacklisting the bulk companies and 'the net' of private people pushing political spam. There is one guy who has been sending me stuff for years and I just have it go to the junk folder and deleted..forgot about it. New server, new
