Sweave : change value in rnw file to generate multiple "single" reports ?
Hello, I'm still trying to make the life of my colleagues easier. Nice, isn't it ? At the moment, I'm looking for a way to generate multiple "single report". In fact I have a .rnw file which send a query to a MySQL database (rs<-dbSendQuery(con, statement="select * from treatdata where name='Device1'") But of course my colleagues have many devices and

Truncated R output in Sweave
Dear Colleagues: In producing a book or a handout I sometimes cut out a large part of the printed output of an R function, substituting ... for that chunk. Deleting non-essential output saves paper. It would be nice to have a capability in Sweave to allow the user to specify a starting and an ending regular expression that would identify consecutive lines of output to replace with ...,

Editors which have strong/solid support for SWeave?
Greetings! I have a few colleagues who like the idea of Sweave, but have failed to become enlightened monks of the One True Editor (http://www.dina.dk/~abraham/religion/) Are there any other Microsoft-centric editors or IDEs which have solid support for writing SWeave documents (dual R / LaTeX enhancements similar to ESS's support)? Has anyone tried the folding editors which support Noweb?

Setting default plot size in Sweave
Dear Colleagues: I have used \SweaveOpts{prefix.string=plot, eps = FALSE, pdf = TRUE} \SweaveOpts{width=5, height=4} <<fig=T>>= plot(...) @ But the figure still has a width of 80% of the text width, the default set up by Sweave, which issues a LateX command in Sweave.sty of \setkeys{Gin}{.8\textwidth}. Sweave.sty has a command \ifthenelse{\boolean{Sweave at

Comparison of SAS & R/Splus
I am one of only 5 or 6 people in my organization making the effort to include R/Splus as an analysis tool in everyday work - the rest of my colleagues use SAS exclusively. Today, one of them made the assertion that he believes the numerical algorithms in SAS are superior to those in Splus and R -- ie, optimization routines are faster in SAS, the SAS Institute has teams of excellent numerical

Package 'R2HTML'
I recently learnt how to use Sweave which is a wonderful tool After which i also tried to use R2HTML as it would allow many of my colleagues who dont use latex to be able to use and edit my work. I was unable to make it work and couldnt find a way to implement it. I got some errors. I wonder if you could help me with it i have a windows 2000 OS and the version of R is "R version 1.9.1,

Sweave: multiple graphic formats, e.g. win.metafile
Dear R devel, being constrained to a windows environment at work and having colleagues being accustomed to the Microsoft Office Suite, I was looking for a way to have the RweaveLatex driver for Sweave automatically generating 'win.metafile's in addition to the pdf graphics. Without this functionalilty, the generation of emf-graphics is quite laborious, I think: <<>>= plotit

How to include the documentation of a function in a Sweave document?
Dear R-help, I would like to include the documentation of an R function in an *.rnw document processed by Sweave. Because I'm sharing my *.rnw files with colleagues under Linux and Windows (I'm on Mac OS X), I would like a pure R solution. The naive approach doesn't work, because Sweaving this *.rnw file: -------- tmp.rnw -------- \documentclass{article} \begin{document}

LaTeX, MiKTeX, LyX: A Guide for the Perplexed
Hello Everyone,   Been learning R over the past several months. Read several books and have learned a great deal about data manipulation, statistical analysis, and graphics.   Now I want to learn how to make nice looking documents and about "literate programming." My understanding is that R users normally do this using LaTeX, MiKTeX, LyX, etc. in conjuction with Sweave. An alternative

cannot set the path to installed R packages when building a package vignette
Dear colleagues, I am having issues trying to build a R package I recently wrote. I am using R 2.14.0 and my package depends on another package called aod. Running: R CMD Sweave vignette.Rnw is perfectly fine and the vignette compiles properly. but when I use R CMD build mypackage to build the tar.gz I get the following error: * installing the package to re-build vignettes * creating

stop monitor on transfer
Guys. This idea has been banging my headfor days now and I feel the need to share with you. Imagine this scenario: all calls come in thru a receptionist, asterisk records all incoming calls, the receptionist's work is to transfer the calls to internal people but some of them are bosses and you know how bosses are, they don't want their calls to be recorded, so, I have been trying to

Bi-directional self-referential HABTM
Hi, I''m having a little trouble figuring out how to make a self- referential HABTM bi-directional. I have a Employee class. Each employee can have a couple of bosses, who are also employees. The employee class has the following HABTM: has_and_belongs_to_many :bosses, :class_name => "Employee", :join_table => "bosses_courses", :association_foreign_key =>

R for Computational Neuroscience?
Hi all, I've noticed that many computational neuroscience research groups use MATLAB. While it's possible that MATLAB may have some features unavailable in R, I suspect that this may instead simply be a case of costly tradition, where researchers were taught MATLAB as students and pay for it as researchers because it's all they know. I'd like to attempt to break the cycle by

Possible Solution to Tempfile error (for documentation)
Dear List: I'm posting this to provide a possible solution and to document to what appears to be an R limitation. The solution is more of a cheap hack that works for now. To provide a little background, I am looping through a dataframe and creating Sweave documents using data from each row in the dataframe. It appears that this technique is not scalable to large dataframes without making some

Polycom question - removing a soft key functionality
Hi, I just enable "presence" on my phones, so that secretaries can see whether their bosses are already on a call or not. Unfortunately, this came with the added "benefit" of adding two soft key features on the screen, "MyStatus" and "Buddies", which I want removed (it's good enough for me that they can see status by looking at the line icon, this

executable R script under xp (to avoid migration toward Matlab or C++)
Hello, I discovered R two years ago and thanks to the R-community I managed to write some scripts to analyze my data stored in mysql databases. The only problem is that I am the only one using R in the lab. Colleagues mainly use Matlab (but not with mysql, only with text files) but regularly come to me to get data treated with R-scripts !!!. To allow the use of my scripts by other people, my
