vfs fruit unable to create xattr and ACL from OS X 10.10.4
Hello I am trying to integrate OS X 10.10.4 clients into existing Samba infractructure run by our IT department. We are currently using Samba 4.2.3. File share is stored on iSCSI array with ext4 filesystem which should support both ACL and XATTR. We are trying to setup vfs_fruit module to avoid possible performance problems on OS X clients. We do NOT user netatalk. Current vfs_fruit config:

vfs_fruit: FreeBSD: attrname is wrong
In case of FreeBSD, the name of the extended attribute is wrong. % lsextattr user ICONandEA.txt ICONandEA.txt netatalk.Metadata com.apple.TextEncoding com.apple.metadata:kMDItemFinderComment "netatalk.Metadata" is incompatible to Netatalk. since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to go get rid of netatalk these days? is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them back in the new format? afp.conf: appledouble = ea ea = samba

OS X client symlinks
When you say “real symlinks on OSX” do you mean an “alias” that Finder would create? Or a Unix-type symlink using the “ ln -s file link” command in Terminal? A Finder alias is not the same as a Unix-type symlink. My NAS runs Debian Linux with version 4.3.11 of smbd; my clients are all OSX Mojave. If I create an alias using Finder on the NAS, it behaves like a normal alias in OSX UNLESS I move

Feature request: Sync Mac OS resource forks and metadata on Mac OS X
I have a feature request for rsync. I tried posting it to the FAQ-o-matic, but that system didn't seem to be accepting new questions. I hope this is an okay list for the request--apologies if it's misdirected. Mac OS X provides support for the Mac file system resource forks and mac specific metadata (e.g., creator and file type). Most Unix applications ignore this information, but it

rsync not copy all information for font file
Hi Ram, In OS X, some font types (not all) put the font payload in the resource fork. Netatalk provides AFP filesharing, imitating the resource forks by creating secondary files in ?.Appledouble? folders within each folder. Netatalk tracks the resource forks, and other metadata, by keeping a ?Desktop database? at the root of the shared volume ? look for .AppleDesktop, and .AppleDB. You can

Aw: Re: Re: rsync not copy all information for font file
Ram, ? Look inside the .AppleDouble folder and tou will find the resource forks that hold the main part of the font data. ? Not a 'problem' with netatalk, but just how netatalk works so that it can represent apple files on non-apple filesystems. ? ?If you confirm the data all matches, this will prove rsync is working properly. ? Integrating Samba and Netatalk.. :-)
Is it maybe possible to use the ROOT PRE EXEC of samba to handle netatalks .Appledouble files? I am just wondering how to handle PC's moving files that were created on the mac. Since if a PC user moves a file it won't move the resource fork. Now the mac can still access this file it just don't know who created it... But I don't see any variables that hold the current file
