debugging RAM issues
Hey folks,
I have 1 system ( Sunfire x2250 running 5.7 ) that is having issues with
RAM, but I'm not sure how to debug it. And unfortunately it is not under
support anymore.
I started the job about 4 months ago and when I came aboard the guy who
handed stuff over to me told me this issue was on his list of things he was
unable to get to yet. He told me he'd seen errors in the past in

lm_sensors on Sun (x86) Hardware
Hey folks,
I'm running RHEL 5.3 on 6 boxes - and on every one of them
sensors-detect finds nothing.
5 of them are Sun fire 2250 machines, and 1 is Sunfire 4170.
Googling and searching this list does not seem to find anything.
When I log into the Sun hardware management interface (web interface)
I see that it of course is correctly detecting various temperatures of
things. But for some

biggest disk partition on 5.8?
Hey folks,
I have a Sun J4400 SAS1 disk array with 24 x 1T drives in it connected
to a Sunfire x2250 running 5.8 ( 64 bit )
I used 'arcconf' to create a big RAID60 out of (see below).
But then I mount it and it is way too small
This should be about 20TB :

RAID card selection - JBOD mode / Linux RAID
I don't think this is off topic since I want to use JBOD mode so that
Linux can do the RAID. I'm going to hopefully run this in CentOS 5
and Ubuntu 12.04 on a Sunfire x2250
Hard to get answers I can trust out of vendors :-)
I have a Sun RAID card which I am pretty sure is LSI OEM. It is a
3G/s SAS1 with 2 external connectors like the one on the right here :

OT: good free DNS tools?
Hey guys and gals,
Anyone know of a half decent tool like DNSstuff.com only free?
I need to run some diag on a few domains but it is basically a 1 shot
deal and hard to justify buying.
thanks,

Manual OOM killing?
Hey guys and gals,
Yesterday I had one of my scientists kill one of my servers when his
program ran amok and gobbled up all the memory, or forked too many
processes, or I'm just not exactly sure what to be honest.
Is there something I can run manually in cron to look for rampant
programs and kill them? I know that may be hard to discern but I
could also include a list if "known

I don't know the price - I've only been here a few weeks.
I'll have to check when I'm back at work for details on it - don't
have my VPN login yet.

ask a question about ERST
Hi maintainer,
I found below patch reverted part of erst header size check.
This lead to mismatch with kernel upstream code and erst disabled on
some machine like X4170 M3/X3-2.
According to the ACPI spec 4.0 and 5.0, the Serialization Header Length
should be the length of Serialization Header.
After revert below patch, xen succeed with erst table init.
So could this patch be reverted now to match

isw_xxxxxxxx missing?
Hi all, I've installed CentOS 5.2 on a sun x2250.
The installer goes fine and I can setup my root with lvm on /dev/
mapper/isw_xxxxxxxx_Volume0, that is the hardware RAID1 for two disks
available.
As the system boots lvm complains of a duplicate PV and decides to
use /dev/sda, so the physical disk, not the raid device... I see with
surprise that the raid device is missing!
Needless to

Updated Kernel sensors modules
Last week I upgraded my box to CentOS 6 and I'm very impressed so far with it.
The only small issue so far is that it doesn't seem to recognize the
new Sandy Bridge Core i5 CPU that I have and you can't monitor its
temperature.
I recompiled the latest coretemp module from the latest 2.6.39 kernel
and the latest lm_sensors version however this still wasn't enough as

ZFS with STK raid card w battery
We have Sun STK RAID cards in our x4170 servers. These are battery
backed with 256mb cache.
What is the recommended ZFS configuration for these cards?
Right now, I have created a one-to-one logical volume to disk mapping
on the RAID card (one disk == one volume on RAID card). Then, I mirror
them using ZFS. No hardware mirror. What I am a little confused with
is if it is better to not do any

Server recommendations for running Xen/Debian?
Hi all,
Sorry for the slight off topicness, but I''m looking around for an OEM
Opteron server (more server will follow later) at the moment that will
run Xen 3.0 and Debian Sarge. Basically I''m looking for any ideas and
opinions about how well and how easily the hardware is supported by a
Xen/Debian environment (for both domUs and dom0). Ideally a server

which server to buy?
Hello!
Please, help me, I''m totally lost choosing basic budget server for XEN.
The variants are Sun (X2200 M2 or Sun X2250 M2) or maybe HP Proliant
DL160 G5p. Or maybe some IBM server?
Which X2200 configuration will perform better, two Opteron dual-core
22xx or single quad-core 23xx?
Which one performing better nowadays, Opteron or Xeon? I know that 2-3
years ago Opteron was the

Install R-patched_2006-07-13 on i386-pc-solaris2.10 with Sun Studio 11
Dear R-developers:
I'm trying to build a 64-bit R-patched_2006-07-24 on SunFire V40z with
on Solaris OS 10 64-bit kernel and using Sun Studio 11 compilers.
Everything runs OK until it gets to building package tools (all.R) where
it fails. Bellow is how I tried it (I can provide any other additional
info if needed). Any help please?
Thank you very much

Sensors-applet-0.2.2
List,
I grabbed the sensors-applet file, and assumed there would be some
note about how to execute it or add it to the panel. Nada.. in the
README, there is an indication of ./configure --prefix=/usr and that's
it. From what I read on a web page about it, and the screenshots, there
should be something to configure the values. Heck, I can't even find
the file now that its
