I can browse but can't modify or create files
Hello, I am having trouble getting my samba share to work properly. We are running CentOS and the samba version is samba.x86_64 3.0.33-3.29.el5_7.4 The problem that I am having is that I can see all the shares and browse the directories but I can not create or modify files. Whenever I try to create or modify a file I get an "Access Denied" pop-up window. This is

All read and write
I have problems in creating all read and write samba connection. I am mounting an Ubuntu share to windows. A program I used in windows is able to create folders and files but unable to have ownership of the folder or write on the folder because once the folder is created, it is lock. Here is my configuration: security = SHARE [Share] path = /home/project public = yes writeable = yes read

local rimapd not working with 1.1.1, fatal error
Hi all, I just upgraded a couple of Fedora 9 workstations to try out 1.1.1 over NFS'd homedir's and I'm having trouble running dovecot in the same configuration we were with 1.0.14. It's fairly simple, we use pine/alpine and set a couple of variables to fork rimapd directly: * smtp-server=host (for the main mail machine) * user-domain=host (same) * set the

How to generate a report with graphics and tables?
Hello R-Users, I have some data sets which change on a daily bases. So far I have imported these sets into R, done all my evaluations resulting in a couple of plots, charts and tables of numbers which I copy&pasted via clipboard into Powerpoint. The procedure is always the same and I wonder, whether there is no easier way for doing so. Is there some type of "report generator"

RoR - Mac OS 10.4.4 on Intel
I got a new 20 inch iMac dual core today and am busy getting it all setup. A couple of issues though: 1. Is the Ruby 1.8.2 install by Apple still botched or has that been fixed? I recall someone had fixed the rbconfig.rb to get it working. Is this something I still have to do? 2. Does anyone know if Locomotive is using the uniersal binaries, or is it targetting PPC yet? I couldn''t

Dovecot index, NFS, and multiple architectures
Hi all, I crawled through the archives for a bit but didn't see anything helpful, so I apologize if this has already been addressed. We've been dying to move from Courier to Dovecot across our whole infrastructure for quite some time, but until recently our setup wasn't possible until this happened: "Dovecot allows mailboxes and their indexes to be modified by multiple

saving files from Office to Samba share (not NFS'd)
Hi all, I'm having problems saving files from Office 2000 to any Samba share on our Slackware 7.1 box running Samba v2.2.2 When I go to File>Save As in Word, then select the mapped drive (samba share - drive X), I get this message: "The Folder 'X:\' isn't accessible. The folder may be located on an unavailable volume or protected with a password." I also have another

SAMBA slower than MARSNWE...
I actually find Samba a very kewl server app so the subject isn't coming from someone that has a preference for Netware over samba. My issue is actually two-fold, one being the record locking problems in Samba and the other being the slowness of dos apps in samba. I'm not going to post any log messages here as I don't feel that for this post they're really very relevant.

when RedHat makes patches for only some versions
I guess this is really a RedHat, not CentOS question, but I?m hoping that someone here will be familiar enough with the upstream policy to have some useful information. How does RedHat decide which versions to release patches for, e.g. https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613 <https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613> which has only a RH7 erratum, not 6? And are

transitions in R
Hi, All. I'd have a set of data in an array: process <- c( 5 , 7 , 4 , 1 , 4 , 1 , 4 , 1 , 4 , 4 , 1 , 5 , 4 , ...) and I'd like to know the number of transitions in this data. I calculate transitions as the number of times a number follows another number. thus, something like this would be a 1 deep transition: 1 --> 1 : 10% (and actual number of 1 --> 1 occurrences) 1

errors with GeForce GTX 650 Ti and 3 monitors
There were fixes in 3.17 that were supposed to help this, but apparently they didn't help enough. See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72180 -- basically some sort of card setup failure on our part is causing our ctxsw to die, but nvidia's appears to be more resilient to the screwups. accessing a table
Hi, all. I'm sure this is a simple question, but I'm having problems figuring it out myself... I have a table: > currenttable <- table(junk[-1],junk[-n]) > currenttable bar foo junk bar 2 2 0 foo 1 0 0 junk 0 0 1 and I'd like to know the result of the cell currenttable(bar, foo). what is the best way to get that result? thanks!

run firefox via an ssh tunnel
If the point is to access a specific web site only the remote machine can get to, you can also do it with port forwarding: ssh -L 8000:ip_of_web_site_to_access_from_remote:443 remote_machine and then locally run any browser, and access https://localhost:443 (assuming it's https. If it's plain http, use "http" and 80). Note that you'll be breaking some aspects of https

How to configure PAM in Centos 5 64-bit?
I'm new the the PAM world and have CentOS 5 64-bit installed on a system. I want to tweak some of the system-auth module settings, but the top of the file says anything configured in that file will get overwritten, as it is autogenerated by authconfig. I checked out authconfig, and it doesn't seem clear to me how to make the changes I need via authconfig. So, where do I need to look?

Redhat Authconfig errors
Ok, I've got most everything setup, but I'm not able to confirm pam_ldap and nss_ldap are working properly. (Actually given the examples in SBE, they still appear to be returning information from local files rather than the ldap info.) I wanted to go back and check my authconfig and reset the parameters. However now when I do a authconfig I get this: ---- authconfig --enablecache

kickstart and logins.def question
Hello all: Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for all the knowledge this past year. I have a hopefully simple question about kickstart. In the authconfig section I can enable ldap, credential caching, etc.. Using the GUI tool there's an option to create the user home directories on first login. The docs don't show a similar option for authconfig in kickstart. For now I'm

Puppet not honoring alternate path to namespaceauth.conf
Greetings, I''ve two questions for y''all. 1) I''ve setup an alternate installation path for puppet in a site local directory outside of ''the usual places''. Puppetd seems to insist that /etc/puppet/namespaceauth.conf exists despite setting :authconfig in both puppet and puppetd. As a result part of my installation now includes a symlink to point
