Rsync not able to transfer over jumbo frames?
Hello,
I have 2 network cards on my 2 of my computers that I am trying to
transfer data on. The second network cards are specifically for
transferring files between the two so I enabled jumble frames by
setting the mtu to 9000. I seem to be able to connect between the two
via ssh and other methods using this setting so I thought everything
was working right until I tried rsync. I used the

text file output
Hello,
I would like to create an ascii text file that looks exactly like the
Console output of a split() action. I have tried save, dput, dump,
write.foreign and write to no avail. The resulting text files are a
jumble of data that I would have to edit heavily in order to use it for
my proposed purpose. How can I, short of copying and pasting the
contents of the console (which will not work

Linux words file
Dear R People:
I have a small function that solves the "Jumble" puzzle from the
newspaper (I know...big deal). It uses the the Linux "words" file.
My question is: is there a similar words file for Windows, please?
Thanks,
Happy New (Gnu) Year.
Sincerely,
Erin

Simple fix to horrible bug in Samba website CSS
Dear Folks,
For a long time I have been unable to read the menu at the left of
http://samba.org/ in my 1920x1440 display. All the menu items
overwrite each other in a horrible, illegible jumble. I thought it
might be a bug in firefox or something.
Then I investigated, and found that there is actually a serious bug in
the cascading style sheet for the web site. The problem is in

Formatting a list from the DB
I am working on a project where there is a table called mixes. You
create a new Mix and in the contents box, you type in the name of the
songs used. Because the number of tracks could be unlimited, I decided
to use a text box. Is there anyway I can have my views make the list
look right, instead of as a jumble of text. Or, would there be some
way, using arrays and maybe ajax, so the user

loess plotting problem
For some reason the following code is not plotting as I want it to. I want
to plot a "loess" line plotted over a scatter plot. I get a jumble, with
lines connecting all the points. I had a similar problem with "lowess". I
solved that by dropping "NA" rows from the data columns. Please help.

loess plotting problem
Dear Anupam Tyagi,
You didn't include your data, so it's not possible to see exactly what
happened, but I think that you misunderstand the object that loess()
returns. It returns a "loess" object with several components, including
the original data in x and y. So if pass the object to lines(), you'll
simply connect the points, and if x isn't sorted, the points

loess plotting problem
Thanks, John.
However, loess.smooth() is producing a very different curve compared to the
one that results from applying predict() on a loess(). I am guessing they
are using different defaults. Correct?

Newbie question regarding graphing of Princomp object
Greetings,
I am working on a stylometric analysis of some latin texts; one of the
latest stylometric techniques involves using principal components
analysis. Not being a statistician, I can't really fully rely on PCA
as my primary tool, since I don't really understand the statistics
behind the PCA technique. Nevertheless, the ability to use PCA and
graph the results has been

Replacing of non-alphanumeric chars in Name can be confusing
Tinc replaces non-alphanumeric characters in the `Name` field of
tinc.conf by '_' (see [1] and [2]).
This includes hyphens ('-'), which are often used in host names.
That is quite surprising, and can easily lead to misconfigurations,
especially because there doesn't seem to be a warning if you configure
`Name = node-1`, and on the other machines the host file

Has anyone sucessfully installed and execute the Microsoft .NET Runtime under WINE? If not, is it even possible? I would be willing to even run the system in Win95/WinNT compatibility should it be necessary.

"Quiz" site
Hi,
I am thinking about how to best design a quiz site in RoR. I think it
should be fairly easy, but have run into a wall. In the simplest form,
the view would grab all of the questions for a particular quiz and
display them (e.g. multiple choice, so 4 option buttons per question).
However, I can''t figure out how to "mark" the quiz. The form is

samba 2.2.7 & MIT Kerberos 1.2.6
Hi,
I'm new to this list so I apologise if this has been asked before.
I'm trying to compile samba 2.2.7 with kerberos support. I have MIT
Kerberos 1.2.6 installed and working as a KDC but when I samba wont compile

I have searched here, and noticed some discussion lately on problems
demoting a dc. In my case, all roles are on DC2, and DC1 & DC3 know that:

Vorbis-/Speex-Audio for Movie-Archiving

I have been using vorbis for ages as audio codec for archiving movies and I
have always been happy with it, but now I have been thinking about two things:
I) Multi-channel
Up until now I mostly encoded to stereo; now I am thinking of encoding more
movies to 4.0 or 5.1. I heard that vorbis does not optimize for channels > 2,

ntlm_auth random failures with dovecot
I'm still a bit fuzzy on exactly what has blown up here since my 1.2
install (or maybe it was broken then and I never noticed), but it
looks like the way dovecot is calling out to ntlm_auth is violating
the --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp scheme.
The issue is how it handles simultaneous clients connecting - for
instance launching thunderbird with NTLM auth creates multiple imapds
