kernel oplocks in ctdb environment
Hi
Can anyone advise me on "kernel oplocks" in a ctdb cluster.
I have a ctdb (GPFS is the parallel file system) setup that uses samba
(3.5.8) for cifs and IBM CNFS for NFS. Reading the documentation on
kernel oplocks it seems to me that I can export the same area via samba
and NFS with "kernel oplocks = Yes" .
My logic is that IBM CNFS has shared NFS locking

vfs_gpfs module errors
Hi
I'm encountering an error with some of my Windows clients when
using CTDB and samba to access a GPFS hosted share. We see the following
error all the time.

The copy continues but is slow. All the timestamps seem reasonable for
the data copied.

ACLs passwd file and winbind.
Hi
Is there a way of getting samba to use the passwd file entries when
utilising POSIX extended acls.
I have two groups of users
1) A vast amount of users who access filestore via windows only. In this
case I winbind and idmap to assign random UNIX uids as is normal.
2) I also have a much smaller group of users who use NFS and CIFS to
access the same area. In this case I put an entry in

idmap_ad - Unix attributes vs. Windows attributes vs. Winbind
Hi,
I'm using Debian Stable with Samba from SerNet (3.0.28-21).
Most of it is working, but there is one issue:

> user:*:1024:10000:Aiko Barz:/home/DOMAIN/user:/bin/false
> filer01 ~ # getent passwd | grep user
> user:*:1024:10000:Aiko Barz:/net/server.domain.local/home/user:/bin/bash

samba to samba via LDAP
Hi all,
I have lots of samba servers and want them to all authenticate against a
single password file which will be a LDAP database.
Where I want to be:
Login to a domain called "FROST" that passes the username:passwd to a domain
called "ACR" which checks LDAP.
Where I'm at:
I can login (from a W2K machine) to a test server called LIBIT which uses LDAP

IDMAP dump and restore for second server.
Hello all.
I use Samba 3.6.3 on FreeBSD in combination with ZFS, and it all works fine.
I use zfs send to receive my store on a backup machine and i want the users id to be the same as on the master server so to say.
Keeps my backups easy accessable with samba!
Now i know i can dump the IDMAP database using the following: net idmap dump.
I expect a whole bunch of lines, but i get the following,

Bringing up interface causes smbd to become unresponsive on that subnet
This is a strange problem I can't seem to wrap my head around.
I have a server with 2 interfaces. Samba is serving happily on one, and
will remain on a single interface (eth0, subnet A(/22), vlan 101). I wish
to bring up a second interface (eth1, subnet B(/24), vlan 102) that will be
serving up nfs and ssh traffic only. Currently, Samba will process
requests from any computer on the

Experiencing errors after adding new nodes
Hi,
I had a 2 node distributed cluster running on 3.1.1 and I added 2 more nodes. I then ran a rebalance on the cluster.
Now I am getting permission denied errors and I see the following in the client logs:

What gui works with samba 3.x and tdbsam ???
I just setup a new server for a client and everything is running well. I
added and setup all the users from the cli just because that's how I'm
used to doing it. I tried using the samba gui that comes with CentOS
4.03 and I tried Webmin but nether one will add the user proberly to the
tdbsam database. They add the user fine to the /etc/passwd file but
samba does not get updated

ipsec problem
Hello all together,
I've got here a very strange problem.
I've set up a vpn with freeswan between two subnets over the internet.
Now I can ping from behind to behind.
With Windows 98 I can search a computer which is in the other subnet and
find the the computer.
But...only the other computer is NOT a samba server. Means a w2k or w98
is ok.
If I'm looking for the samba in the other

decreasing performance of for() loop
Dear useRs,
I'm wondering why the for() loop below runs slower as it progresses.
On a Win XP box, the iterations at the beginning run much faster than
those at the end:

2%, iteration 4000, 10:10:17

AppDB Voting System Wierdness
Hi, I'm a newbie.
I was looking at the AppDB and I think the voting is a great idea to prioritise what people want and will use. However, I was looking at my favorite game that I want to get fully working on wine - "Company of Heroes (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4506)". I can't understand why there isn't a global voting for this like

Corrupted Program Files Directory
Has anyone had this experience with WINE?
I wasn't doing anything very unusual (or sophisticated). I had run Quicken
just to see if it worked, which it did fine. I had also run my ACR program
(see prior post) in debug mode to see if I could get any other ideas about
get it to function proberly.
Then I notice that my Program Files directory is empty? Eventually I find all

CTDB starting statd without -n gfs -H /etc/ctdb/statd-callout
Hello,
First and foremost, thanks *very* much for ctdb. It's a joy to use
after banging around with other HA solutions. We're planning to use
it to export Samba and NFS shares throughout campus.
I'm having one problem with the NFS part though. When ctdbd first
starts statd (we're using CTDB_MANAGES_NFS=yes), it does so without
appending the stuff in the STATD_HOSTNAME variable
