network inaccessible
When the ISP goes down Windoze computers cannot map drives on
the local SambaServer. Windoze reports the network as busy and
inacessible. Non-SMB connections (e.g., telnet, ftp, ping) work; an
instance of smbd -D appears on the process list for each machine
attached; drives already mapped still work. log.MachineNames report
read_data errors when this happens. Only asyncdns.c, a piece of

Fax support?
Is there any way to receive and send faxes using a T100 card? If so how is it done?

authenticating to AD with winbind
Yohoo!
We want to authenticate our Cisco admins to freeradius. This should authenticate to our running AD (W2003Srv).
Googling for freeradius and AD tells me to use ntlm_auth. For ntlm_auth I need a running winbindd. And kerberos.
And there's my problem.
Status:
I configured the /etc/krb5.conf
"kinit admin@MY.DOMAIN" asks for the password and gives me a ticket for one week.

Solution to a Problem - Adding domain users as local Admins fails
I thought I'd post an observation about a problem I solved so that others
might benefit. I must admit I was struggling with the issue for a couple of
days, and solved it, though I'm not sure exactly what solved it but I'll
share the observations nonetheless, for the benefit of others.
PROBLEM BEHAVIOUR
I was unable to view domain users as the local admin, even if I authenticated

Build error due to Waf task dependency cycle in run_after
Dear all,
trying to build some Heimdal-based packages for Samba AD DC under
openSUSE I am facing some difficulties with the build system:
During the installation which is triggered by "make install" waf complains
about some task dependency cycle after leaving folder bin/default.
Full log including config options can be seen unter https://build.opensuse.org/

Fairly sure I have said this already, but if I haven't, I will say it
now:
Do not use kinit to get the machines kerberos ticket, winbind has

domain users in local groups with Winbind/Samba/Redhat
Hi,
I am running a Samba 2.2.7a on Redhat 7.3 in a NT domain. For authentication
I am using the domainusers. This is done by Winbind 2.2.7a which verifies the
existens of the users on the PDC. So I dont't have to create local users
(/etc/passwd) for users who want to connect to the shares in the smb.conf.
I authorise them by adding valid users = domain+domainuser to the smb.conf.
This works

cli_rpc_pipe_open_schannel_with_creds: rpc_pipe_bind failed with error NT_STATUS_RPC_PROTOCOL_ERROR
dear samba community,
we have a big problem on joining a Samba 3.5.6 PDC.
Hopefully anyone has an idea/suggestion.
When trying to join with a Samba 4.2.10 or 4.3.9 we got the following

"smbclient -M <machinename>" generates "session request failed" - why?
Hi All,
When I try to do "cat message.txt | smbclient -M <machinename>" or
"smbclient -M <machinename>", I get:
added interface ip=192.168.0.100 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0

Services supporting Kerberos and/or TLS client certificate authentication
Hello,
We're starting to use FreeIPA in house (which is awesome btw) which means
that Kerberos and TLS client certificate authentication is suddenly quite
easy. Im looking for a list of common Linux services with data on how one
can Authenticate/Authorise for these services.
* httpd support TLS client certificate authentication and Kerberos
* rabbitmq supports TLS client certificate

Help with ADS authentication and Samba
Hi there, just recently joined this list as I seem to be having a little trouble that I am hoping someone can help with.
I recently installed a RHEL5.5 server and updated samba to samba3-3.4.11-42.el5.x86_64.rpm. I had never set up samba to authenticate with ADS so I read a little bit and dove right in. The server now works fine, so when I browse to \\machinename<file:///\\machinename> no

Creating maching trust accounts
Hello,
I have created a machine trust account with the following command
'pdbedit -a -m -u machinename' and I noticed that after I execute the
following command 'pdbedit -L -v -u machinename', the Unix username is
in lowercase letters? Because when I attempt to join a domain with a
Windows 8.1 machine, it emits a error that it can't find the Machine
account? Does it

smbfs pc-netlink problem
I posted basically this problem yesterday with no response, but I have some
new information so here's a rego.
I mount a solaris box which is sharing files with pc-netlink
I use the following line in my fstab
//machinename/Share /mnt/machinename/share smbfs
credentials=/etc/fstabpwds/username,ro,user 0 0
And it mounts fine, I can access all the directories, and most of the files.

Logon logging logs
I'm looking for a simple solution to log a single entry for each login
to a Samba PDC.
My current attempt(s) of using a root prexec script in either the
[netlogon] share definition or the [global] section are working, but not
exactly as expected.
In [netlogon] I have an entry:
root preexec = /path/to/script/makelogonscript.pl %g %u %m %I

Unable to modify TDB passwd ERROR
I'm trying to track down why I can't seem to add a computer to the domain.
I've looked high and low to no avail. Right now, when I try to add the
computer as a "trusted machine," I've added it to the Unix passwd dB with
the appropriate machinename$ and the added the machine to the dmbpasswd
via:
smbpasswd -a -m machinename
But, when I go to add the machine to the
