3.3.10 <-> AD 2008 R2 very slow
Hi again, I changed from 3.4.5 to 3.3.10 after an AD upgrade to 2008R2 and prinitng is working mor ore less but it is incredibly sloooow. My server has no remarkable load so it is not due to hardware bottlenecks. Are there any ways to 'tune' 3.3.10 or any tricks to make it faster ? cheers ~christoph -- /* Christoph Beyer | Office: Building 2b / 23 *\ * DESY

new feature in 2.2.6 ?
Hi Jerry et al, will the 2.2.6 release show the printers in the 'add-new-printer-wizzard' on the client like the WINDOWS server do ? I'm not sure if you know what I mean, so here is a little illustration: ----------------------------- | NTSERVER | | \\ntserver\printer1 | | \\ntserver\printer2 | | \\ntserver\printer3 | | SAMBASERVER |

AD 2008 R2 vs. samba 3.4.5
Hi there, I almot exlusively use samba for printing in a semi large scale (>2.000 windows hosts & >500 printers). I have been running 3.0.20 for a long time and was quite happy with it. Unfortunately my windows fellows have now updated to AD 2008 R2 and I experienced some immediate problems with encryptions types so I updated to 3.4.5 which is not really working for me. I see a

Clustered Samba Printing
Hi Folks, I'm part of a Novell department that is working on moving from Novell NDPS printing to Samba printing. I have been told that the Samba environment will have to be clustered to assure the same level of redundancy for printing. Does anyone have any pointers? Whether actual experience in this or a location of good documentation of the clustering process? Thanks for

SAMBA 3.5.5 issue
I'm trying to add my Solaris 10 server to active directory on Windows 2003 and I keep getting the same error that samba failed to join the DC. I've checked the configuration file under /etc/samba/smb.conf and it's the same as my other server that's working fine. What else could I check to verify my configuration? Thanks, Adrian

3.0.11 <-> print driver with extensions (for ex Xerox-Phaser7700)
Hi Jerry et al, I upgraded a while ago and everything looks fine at the first glance ;-) Though I discovered a huge problem with drivers that have some extended features/cards like the Xerox-Phaser7700. The driver installs just fine on the server but the extensions are not visible afterwards. Far more annoying: Clients can not install the driver, they get the 'no driver on server for queue

printer permissions <-> ERROR: NULL dest in safe_strcpy (samba 3.0.0)
Hi Jerry et al, I'm using SAMBA 3.0.0 on Solaris 9, it looks very cute, unfortunately I can not set the permissions on the printers (I can as an admin add a user etc. but all changes are lost after applying):-( Is this somehow related to the error entries in the log file: [2003/11/17 14:45:31, 0] lib/util_str.c:safe_strcpy_fn(577) ERROR: NULL dest in safe_strcpy If so will it be fixed in

high load printing with 3.2.15
Hi, I am still struggling with the printing in a AD2008 R2 environment I changed to 3.2.15 by now. Still very slow, I am running on solaris 10. Not sure if my clients are so chatty by now but it is really killing any performance. Using truss I see loads of: 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE640) = 0 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE150) = 0 19702: fcntl(17,

Samba issues with Solaris 10
Hello, I am configuring Samba for the first time and I have configured it on a Solaris 10 server. I believe I have everything setup correctly. The smbd daemon is running and I performed a test with the smbclient. The problem I'm now having is from the windows client. From the Windows client I map a drive, I log in with the user account and passwd, when I click to connect, I don't get

bug in parsing the 'username map' in 3.0.5pre1
Hi Jerry et al, the parsing of the 'username map' file seems to be broken in 3.0.5pre1 and a few earlier releases. The '!' at the beginning of a line is ignored. Something like !lp = lp !chbeyer = chbeyer !guest = guest nobody = * doesn't work anymore :-( from the man page: [ snip ] If any line begins with an '!' then the processing will stop

printjob stays in windows queue after transfer failure
Hi Jerry et al, I'm using the 3.0.1 release in 'ADS' mode with ~450 print queues and ~150 users (getting migrated right now, will be ~3.000 in the end). In general everything works fine apart from some smaller driver configuration problems, the usual stuff. Though I see a lot of errors in the log files and it seems that sometimes the print job transfer fails (get 'zero nothing to
