ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 6.0 ready for download
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
It has been a few months since the last cifs-utils release. There
hasn't been much activity, but there are a few bugfixes that we ought
to get into a release.
So, nothing much earth-shattering here, mostly just bugfixes and
documentation updates. With this release too, support for NFS-style
devicenames has now been removed (as previously

ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 4.5 available for download
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

The rate of incoming patches has been pretty low lately, so it's
probably a good time to do a new stable release and get what's queued
up into people's hands...
This release consists of a couple of bugfixes and some (hopefully)
non-user-visible cleanups to the mount.cifs code.

ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 6.1 ready for download
It has been a few months since the last cifs-utils release, and again
there's been almost no activity. Still, at some point we need to get
the bugfixes into the field, no matter how minor they are.
So, nothing much earth-shattering here, mostly just bugfixes, and one
new feature to allow cifs.upcall to use a dedicated keytab.
Go forth and download!

ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 4.3 available for download
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
This release is primarily to fix a few bugs that were introduced with
the mount.cifs overhaul in the last release. Most of the problems were
issues with the handling of capabilities that prevented credential files
from being accessed when mount.cifs was run by root.
There are a few other changes:
- - credential files accept parameter names

ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 4.6 available for download
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

It has been a while since I've cut a new release for cifs-utils. This
one has more visible changes than were in the last few releases. Major
highlights:
- - documentation additions for the fsc option
- - mount.cifs deals with _netdev, mand and nomand options correctly now
- - a change in how mount.cifs handles the MS_MANDLOCK flag. It used to

Time for another cifs-utils release!
Most of the patches in this release are for cifs.idmap, getcifsacl and
setcifsacl. There were many bugs in those tools, so anyone that's
deploying or using them is highly encouraged to upgrade.
Highlights:
* NFS-style device names are being deprecated in 6.0. Anyone using that
sort of device name should

Yes. It was a new installed Windows 10 TP build 9926, with no contact to
any AD or NT4 domain before. Also the Samba 4.2.1 PDC was a fresh

ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 4.1 available for download
This release is primarily a number of small bugfixes and cleanups. I
wanted to do a release with those prior to the coming overhaul of
mount.cifs to allow it to more safely be installed setuid root.
There a couple of other noticeable changes too:
- the version reported by all programs in the tarball now matches the
VERSION define set by autoconf. That is, if someone runs

CIFS: Deprecating NFS mounting syntax in mount.cifs
The following patch adds a warning when using NFS mounting syntax (server:/share), instead of the usual UNC syntax (//server/share || \\server\share), that support for NFS style mounts will be removed in version 6.0 of the mount.cifs utility.
The reasoning for this is simple. Support for NFS syntax is undocumented and increases maintenance overhead. This came up recently on the cifs-utils list

Sync passwords unix/smb with FDS backend?
Using simple authentication I have been able to tie FDS to Samba 3.x.24.
Knowing that the unix passwd and smb passwd are different, dare I ask
how difficult it would be to have them sync? Most of my users are using
netatalk w/ posix user info and MD5 password. I would like to swing this
over to samba without the worries of two passwords per user. I have seen
blips on this but not directly related

ZFS Performance as a function of Disk Slice
First Post!
Sorry, I had to get that out of the way to break the ice...
I was wondering if it makes sense to zone ZFS pools by disk slice, and if it makes a difference with RAIDZ. As I''m sure we''re all aware, the end of a drive is half as fast as the beginning ([i]where the zoning stipulates that the physical outside is the beginning and going towards the spindle increases hex

PDC Multiple users
Hi list:
I've been using samba+ldap as a PDC with roaming profiles for some
time but recently I joined some machines to the domain wich are used
by several users and then started the problems, the profiles loaded
are not the ones owned by the users, I mean user1 loads the profile of
the user2 and so on. I'm using Debian Etch (stable) with samba 3.0.24.
Any Help
Thanks

samba4 & (domain) dfs
Hi all
I'm trying to set up dfs for (among other things) profiles (i don't know if
this is a good example, but that is out of the scope of my current question)
I've been following these instructions:

http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/samba-domain-dfs-samba-4-help-209347402.html

Query related to samba-3.2.6 and Last Access Time stamp.
Hi,
I've installed samba-3.2.6 libraries on my linux box.
>From the linux machine, I've transfered/copied some files from a share on windows machine.
This operation has changed the 'last access date' of the files(which I've copied) on the windows machine.
I want to avoid this and I do not have administrator permission of the windows machine.
Is there any client side

Hard links revisited
I can't seem to get the hardlinks to work in windows via --link-dest.
It just refuses to find the files in the directory and make a hard
link. Here's the setup.
-I run 2 rsyncs from batch files called sync.bat and sync2.bat.
-I'm connected to the server via a mapped network drive, we'll call it 'z'.
-I then run the client, on the destination, once to pull the data

Do I need Winbind?
With a recent upgrade to Centos 4.6 my system's Samba was also upgraded
to 3.0.25b. But now I get a series of
auth/auth_util.c:create_builtin_administrators(792) and
auth/auth_util.c:create_builtin_users(758) errors every day.
As I understand it winbind allows users to be logged in as Linux users
when they log in as Windows users. But since I don't want them to have
access to the

Strange behaviour of winbind on solaris 8
Dear All,
I came across a really strange behaviour when using winbind on solaris 8.
Normally "nscd" should be turned off because it's causing problems in the
username resolution etc. When I turn it off I can login e.g. using ssh as an
AD users but when i start a command like "ls" it gets put in the background
immediately? When "nscd" is turn on and login again I
