tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
Hi,
I can't get access to any shares when running "smbclient //DUCK/test -U
Dominic". I'm getting the message:
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
I'm pretty sure it's authenticating properly as it says "session setup ok"
in the debug output. If I enter the wrong password I get:
"session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE"

nearest stations in distance matrix
Dear R-user,
Is there a way in R to locate the nearest 5 indices to a station, based on distances in a distance matrix. In other words i want to have nearest stations based on the distances in the matrix. The distance matrix, i have, has dimension 44*44.
Thankyou very much in advance

Euclidean Distance in R
Hi
1. I have two raster files *.asc (identical size)
2. The data in each contain presence or absence data in each cell
represented by a 1 or 0 respectively
3. I would like to take the location of each 1 (presence cell) in
raster file 1 and measure the euclidean distance to the nearest 1
(presence cell) in raster file 2.
Obviously in some cases there will be overlap so the distance will be zero.

Snow Leopard and Samba
A customer has an expanding number of Mac computers. Last Friday and
existing machine started having problems writing files to a Samba share
on a CentOS 5.x server. They had no problems prior to Friday. They are
getting permission failure errors in creating files and folders. I made
the sare owned by the user and group with group write enabled. Even
with him as the owner he can not write

Font size of axis labels
Hi all,
In R, it is not possible to set the font size of axis labels directly
(AFAIK). Instead, scaling factors for the font chosen by the graphics
device can be supplied. It appears that there is no constant font size
for axis labels. My impression is that the axis label font size is
scaled internally by R depending on the number of labels given for an axis.
In addition to the R-internal

nnclust: nnfind() distance metric?
Hello,
pardon my ingorance, but what distance metric is used in this function
in the nnclust package?
The manual only says:
"Find the nearest neighbours of points in one data set from another
data set. Useful for Mallows-type
distance metrics."

Join data by minimum distance
I am wondering if there is a function which will do a join between 2 data.frames by minimum distance, as it is done in ArcGIS for example. For people who are not familiar with ArcGIS here it is an explanation:
Suppose you have a data.frame with x, y, coordinates called track, and a second data frame with different x, y coordinates and some other attributes called classif. The track data.frame has

Vista clients having Issues Copying files from Samba Server
Hello,
I'm running samba-3.0.33 (samba-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4) On Centos 5.4 and some
files have issues being copied from the Samba server to the Vista (Service
Pack 1) clients local disk via Windows Explorer, copying too the Samba
server also has no issues and copying via the CMD prompt has no problem,
I'm getting the following errors

Mahalanobis distance and probability of group membership using Hotelling's T2 distribution
I want to calculate the probability that a group will include a particular
point using the squared Mahalanobis distance to the centroid. I understand
that the squared Mahalanobis distance is distributed as chi-squared but that
for a small number of random samples from a multivariate normal population
the Hotellings T2 (T squared) distribution should be used.

useradd and groupadd very slow
Hi everybody,
After joining a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain the commands to add
local Users and Groups to the Linux machine are very slow. It took up to
10 minutes to add a User or a Group. OS is CentOS 5.4 (Samba Version
3.0.33-3.15). Everything else works without problems.
I assume the reason is that our Active Directory Domain is very huge
(about 30.000 Users) but I haven't found

AD DNS scavenging and winbind:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga)
Samba 3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1
I have run into an issue where the DNS records added by a net ads join seem to be being scavenged. From what I understand, Windows servers/workstations check in (update their host record) on the AD DNS server on a regular basis. So the question is, how can I have samba/winbind do the same?
I could just setup a cron

Samba permissions problem, winbind auth, ldap nss
Greetings list,
I'm having a problem setting file permissions for users connecting to my
samba file server. CentOS 5.4, samba-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1.
I have authentication configured to use winbind, and name services
configured to use LDAP.
I've configured valid users in smb.conf to contain DOMAIN\username for the
users I want to be able to connect.
They can browse the share just fine,

access times samba server via UNC access from XP
Hi,
I am experiencing performance issues when using samba as an application
server for starting exe files from my Windows XP machine.
I have a shortcut on my desktop that links to an executable via UNC path.
Startin the link takes up to 15 seconds, the second time it's a lot faster.
After starting the application and I wait for some time it seems like my
session needs to reconnect or

samba credentials file - hit and miss?
Greetings,
I'm using a CentOS 5.4 Virtual Machine and Samba 3.0.33-3.15.el5_4 to access a
file share from a Windows XP host. I also tried the same using a
Fedora 10 VM with
the same negative results. Please read on.
I've browsed the web and read the mount.cifs man page. And the conclusion
is the same: you connect to a share using a username and password and you're
good to to. Or,

classification algorithms with distance matrix
Dear all,
I have a problem when using some classification functions (Kmeans, PAM,
FANNY...) with a distance matrix, and i would to understand how it
proceeds for the positioning of centroids after one execution step.
In fact, in the classical formulation of the algorithm, after each step,
to re-position the center, it calculates the distance between any
elements of the old cluster and its

Speeding up simulation of mean nearest neighbor distances
I've written the function below to simulate the mean 1st through nth
nearest neighbor distances for a random spatial pattern using the
functions nndist() and runifpoint() from spatsat. It works, but runs
relatively slowly - would appreciate suggestions on how to speed up
this function. Thanks. --Dale

Unwanted case sensitivity
I have also posted this on IRC.
I have a linux host running stock RHEL 5.4 Samba 3.0.33-3.15. The host acts
both as a Samba server and does a CIFS mount of that same share. The
reason for doing this is so that programs running on the Linux host have
the same case insensitive view as the Windows clients.
I have nocase set in the relevant line in /etc/fstab
I have case sensitive = No set in the

Distance between sets of points in transformed environmental space
Dear friends,
I have several sets of points in a transformed environmental space. Each set
of points can be represented as a cloud in the environmental space.
This space is spanned by n coordinates, corresponding to the first n PCs of 36
PCs of some environmental variables (12 monthly minimum temperatures, 12
monthly maximum temperature, 12 monthly precipitations).
I would like to calculate
