samba authenticate to 2K AD?
Has anyone on this list been able to configure samba in such a way so that
it will authenticate to windows 2K acitve directory.
What I want to do is this: install samba 2.2.7 onto a Redhat linux 7.3
system, then configure samba (I think using something called smb_pam) so
that it will join the windows active directory domain.
Is such a thing possible? Has anyone here done it? I can't find

Traffic Shaping
Dear List,
I am wanting to perform some traffic shaping as the subject of this email
suggests.
What I am wanting to do is this; I would like to have traffic shaping
performed on the following protocols: HTTP, RDP, GRE, PPTP, SIP and IAX.
Obviously I would like to have highest priority set for voice packets so
much so that the general http traffic does not impede on the voice packets.

idmap_ad Integration with Windows 2003 pre-R2
Is then new idmap_ad module capable of getting uid/gid info from a Windows 2003 AD pre-R2 with RFC2307 Unix Identity Mapping Extensions applied?
Also, is the correct syntax for specifying the schema_mode as follows:
idmap config dom.example.com:schema_mode = rfc2307
(I am not confident that I am reading the idmap_ad manpage and the new idmap document correctly.)
Thanks for the help,

File Systems - Which one to use?
We are looking at implementing a Linux box running samba in the near
future with about 1TB of disk online. The purpose of this box will be
for basic file and printer sharing needs. I am doing research on the
different journaling file systems avaible in RH 7.3 and up (ext3,
reiserFS, and JFS) and was wondering if anyone has had any real world
experience with them (mostly reiserFS and JFS) and

Binary_Packages/Debian
Dear users,
I have uploaded the new 3.0.25a packages compiled for sarge.
At the same time I have removed older 2.2.x and 3.0.x packages for
Woody.
Support for back porting packages to Woody was already discontinued, but
older packages were still provided. As these packages were not updated
after the recent security issues, I decided to remove them to avoid
pushing people to use outdated and

hash2 mangling alghorithm
I just want to warn people that want to use the new hashing algorithm
for mangled names.
And that note should also be put in the man page IMO.
You must understand that changing the hashing algorithm on a production
server may have unwanted side effects (this is why we maintain by
default hash and not hash2 and why it was not back ported to 2.2
initially).
Windows clients may save all around

Automatic conversion of files
Hi,
I am setting up a samba server where i intend to store audio files. Since
they require quite a lot of disk space i thought of compressing them in
the flac audio format. The thing is that flac is not supported in many
programs we use here. So here are my questions:
1.) Is it possible to configure samba to display .flac files as .wav?
2.) Is it possible to convert the .flac files to wav on the

User/Group HWM ignored when converting idmap from tdb to LDAP
Hi!
I'm trying to convert my tdb-based idmap mapping to a LDAP-based
one. This generally works as intended, with one exception - the
highest uidNumber/gidNumber in use is not transferred, and this causes
duplicate use of the same uid/gidNumber.
Here's what I'm doing:
1) net idmap dump /var/cache/samba/winbindd_idmap.tdb > idmap.dump
2) Set idmap backend in smb.conf to

weird stat()
hei everyone,
I have a weird problem: if I do a
# cd /somedir; stat somesubdir |grep Modify
where /somedir is some directory on an SMB-mounted filesystem I get one
datetime... but I I do:
# cd /somedir; stat * |grep Modify
for the same directory I get a Modify time which consistently differs by 1
second. As I'm writing a perl module to detect differences in a filesystem

Unusable performance over WAN (part 2)
Hi all,
Disregard my previous posts, I've consolidated everything here.
I'm having terrible performance issues with samba over a WAN
(point-to-point T1 link).
Doing a copy of a 2MB file from a samba server to a linux client
running smbclient takes over 5 minutes.
SCPing the same file takes seconds.
The server is running samba version 3.0.25c with kernel 2.6.16.18.
I've put up a set

"checking whether to support ACLs... no"
Hi,
This problem is really getting frustrating. I have set up my debian 3 box w/
kernel 2.4.2 patched for ext2/3 ACL support. I have also installed all
utilies, both attr and ACL. I have joined the box to my domain using winbind
and smbpasswd. I can set permissions all right using setfacl with
domain+user but when I try to change permissions via LAN using w2k/xp I get
access denied/or it just

wbinfo
Dear all,
Got a problem that turns me around. I'm quite new to samba.
Yesterday when i tried the wbinfo -u/-g and other options worked without
any worry. Also there was no error in the UNIX passwd program where i even
changed the root password. This morning onwards i'm facing with problems
where the wbinfo says there is an error looking up the domain for users and
groups -h -i works

create smbpasswd/tdbsam from ldapsam/LDAP query?
As some of you may know, I'm trying to set up Samba BDC on a disk- and fan-less tiny mipsel_CPU router running OpenWRT distribution.
I already managed to compile Samba 3.0.21a and OpenLDAP 2.3.18 for it, and they seem to work fine.
The problem is, this tiny distribution for routers doesn't seem to have anything like Name Service Switch (NSS), and relies solely on /etc/passwd

Strange update problem 3.0.5->3.0.6 with XP-Clients
Hello world,
I have a very strange update problem: this night I upgraded
from 3.0.5 to 3.0.6 (debian unstable) and the system broke completely
with very strange errors (I did not change anything to smb.conf)
- win98 users can log in, copy and everything
- xp users can log in, they see the shares but they cannot access
the files (read error in xp). I have tested it with
