migrating Samba PDC to a new server
Hi,
I'd like to migrate Samba 3.0.24-6etch10 PDC running on a Debian server to a
new
Ubuntu server. I plan to install Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4 on the new server
and
then copy the files in /etc/samba and /var/lib/samba and copy the related
Linux
users in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. Will it work?
Thanks in advance!

Upgrading from samba-3.0.34 to 3.4.4 - result: domain controller unavailable
Hi.
Today I upgraded samba from 3.0.34 to 3.4.4 without changing anything in
smb.conf but with changing local and domain sid:
old samba 1) net getdomainsid and getlocalsid
new samba 2) net setdomainsid and setlocalsid to ones (both the same)
from 1)
after restarting samba I can't log into domain: XP says : domain
controller unavailable ... I tried to rejoin domain - and I can ;)

Migration from samba-3.0.21b-i486 to samba-3.0.27a-x86_64 corrupts root group mapping
Hello.
I went and copied the config files from <source>/etc/samba/* and
<source>/var/cache/samba/* to the target server and deleted the browse.dat
and wins.dat files. The source and target servers have different IPs and
hostnames, so we use "netbios alias". This has worked fine a couple of years
ago. Now after all files have been copied, the old server shut down and the

PDC -> BDC Question
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering I am setting up a BDC at another physically separate
location on a different subnet, and I am currently working on what files I
need to have copied between the computers and which need to be made on each
server. The specific question I am dealing with is what TDB files I need to
replicate filesystems between the two servers. Below is a list of what the
files I

Samba+LDAP: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL because of primary group SID mismatch
Hi,
I'm trying to get my new samba server running for a few days now and I
start losing my mind over not figuring out what I'm doing wrong. Here's
my setup:
OpenLDAP 2.4.21 server with ~15 groups and >100 users, all having a unix
and a samba NT password stored in the LDAP as well as a User SID and
Primary Group SID assigned and stored in the LDAP, derived from the SID

Moving a Samba PDC from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4
Hello,
I try to move a Samba-PDC (3.0.24) from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4 with the
guidance from:

At the moment I am trying this in a test environment. This means the

Need help changing user password
Hi!
I am currently using Samba4 Alpha13 but I have not been
able to change a users password. I curently can add a
user using ldbadd and a ldif file but I would like to
know the recommended way of changing a users password.
It would be nice if it could be done from the
adminstrator account so that you do not need to know
the original password. Thanks for the help!

Changing domain name
Hi,
For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently
have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about
15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux
domain clients.
A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net
getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid.
I started doing this when I noticed something

How can I change the localSID for a SAMBA Server?
I am trying to change the localSID for a SAMBA server, however I am unable
to. I have tried the command "net setlocalsid" to no avail. To troubleshoot
I have also stopped the smbd and nmbd services, but this did not help. Any
help would be great!

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
hi list&john,
i read in the documention about BDCs:
The domain SID has to be the same on the PDC and the BDC. In Samba
versions pre-2.2.5, the domain SID was stored in the file
|private/MACHINE.SID|. For all versions of Samba released since 2.2.5
the domain SID is stored in the file |private/secrets.tdb|. This file is
unique to each server and cannot be copied from a PDC to a BDC; the BDC

Samba & SIDs
Hi all,
I need help to clear a bit of confusion regarding SIDs on Samba servers.
I had my PDC collapse on Thursday which wasn't too much of a problem as I had
everything backed up but I'm now in the position that I have a mismatched
Domain SID. If I run net getlocalsid I get the sid for the server (called
smb0) and net get local sid <domain> returns the sid for the Domain.

"net setlocalsid" question
Hi,
I'm a tad confused about something. I've got a production instance of Samba
running. I am trying to get a test version running on the same box, with the
same SID. Without the test server running, I used "net setlocalSID
<oldsid>" (the net binary is the one for the new server). Then when I issued
'net getlocalsid' it returned it. I thought I was fine.

Everything works fine, i can join the new domain, i

Samba v3 works with LDAP, but not Samba v4
Hi, i'm new to this discussion here but i reading and remembered i've
solved almost the same problem you're having.
I was connecting a Samba 4 standalone server with an existent LDAP server
which was already being used as backend for a Samba 3. On the process of
connecting SMB4 i had that SID mismatch issue. To solve it, i used "net
setdomainsid" to set SMB4 domain SID to
