Can't get users from AD tree
I'm running Samba version Version 3.0.25b-1.el5_1.2 on RH Enterprise
Linux 5. I've configured the SMB server to get users from a Windows 2003
Server Active Directory tree. I was able to join the machine to the
domain with no problem.
Here's the smb.conf

3.0.27a, ubuntu server7.10 auth issues
I have upgraded to version 3.0.27a on ubuntu 7.10 server and now the
getent command wont display the active directory users, but wbinfo will.
It worked fine with 3.0.26a and I have not changed my configuration.
I do however have this in my winbind log:

Winbind issue
All,
After upgrading to samba 3.0.30 on gentoo amd64 because of my recent
best friend CVE-2008-1105
My winbind daemon is 'hanging up', and refusing to respond to pings
after a few minutes of activity.
Wbinfo -u, getent passwd all work successfully, then after a bit wbinfo
-p just tells me winbind dies.
I have 3.0.30/winbind on another machine, also amd64 that is working....
So

problem with winbind
Hi,
Since 1 month, I tried without any success to configure Samba.
My problem is that winbind crashes when I list users and groups. And I
think that it is linked to my trusted domains (wbinfo -domain=myADdomain
-u works well).
The error is the following :
[2006/07/11 14:30:29, 3]
libsmb/cliconnect.c:cli_session_setup_spnego(757)
got principal=machine$@TRUSTEDDOMAIN.COM

vfs_ChDir fails, even though the share is read-write for that user
Hi,
I'm running Samba Version 3.0.25c on Solaris 10 8/07 on X86 hardware.
It's successfully joined to AD.
But, and there always is a but, if :
* A user is a member of SomeGroup
* and the share alllows SomeGroup to access it
* and SomeGroup is NOT what the user has set as their Primary Group in
Active Directory
then
* Samba will recognize that the user can access the share

bwinfo -u works getent passwd doesn't
Hi,
I have Samba 3.0.21b running on Solaris 10 with ADS authentication.
I get the following in log.winbindd when I do "getent passwd" but wbinfo -u
lists all the users.
Does anyone know why and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Vahid.

AD returns only one group for all users
Dear list,
I'm trying to get a Thumper (Sun Fire X4500) to play nice with AD so
that we can offer a nearline storage service. Since many of our users
will have multiple group memberships, it's imperative that samba be able
to recurse through the groups that a user is a member of to determine if
they have access to a resource.
What happens instead is that every user who authenticates is

Interdomain Trust, wbinfo works on both servers, getent doesn't work on one server
Hi
I have a problem with an interdomain trust where on the PDC for DomainA,
everything works perfectly. getent returns local and DomainB usernames.
On the PDC for DomainB, it's DomainB works fine, but getent only returns
local usernames and groups, it doesn't return the usernames or groups for
DomainA. wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work fine and return all DomainA's
usernames and groups.

AD Domain member - getent passwd truncated to only 18 users
Hi,
Due to some legacy php app I have to integrate an Ubuntu 14.04 server on
my AD structure. AD DC is a Ubuntu 18.04 with canonical packages running
Samba 4.7 (4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.5) and member server runs Samba
4.3 (4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.19).
After installing the 14.04 member server, installed samba packages and
dependencies according to wiki and no errors. I get all users on

Failed to verify incoming ticket
I am running samba 3.0.23d on Gentoo. I have a particularly problematic
server that is a domain member of our AD domain.
After joining the domain, shares are available and user credentials work
just fine. Then, suddenly for no apparent reason, it stops working. And,
then again, just as quickly as the problem starts, it goes away. I have
looked at this thing as many ways as I can possibly

FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then
have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having
trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba
list in hopes someone can help me out at this point.
Can anyone help me out here?

Speeding up 'getent passwd' with winbindd on AD
I am working on a Linux-AD integration using winbindd in security=ads
mode with idmap=ad.
Everything is basically working, but the performance of user (and group)
enumeration has been very poor and I am almost at the stage where I ask
my users if they can live without it, though I would prefer not to.
In my test environment, I have about 8500 users in AD, of which
currently only about 10 have
