similar to: replacing a samba pdc server.

Hi all, i'm a bit confused, can i setup samba (3.0.30) with LDAP backend, and have the "posix/local linux" users and groups reside in the /etc/groups /etc/shadow ect. ect (the standard linux files) ??? or do i have to put them in ldap also ?? (is there a choice?) Greets, Collen

I'm curious how others manage their windows 7 machines on a samba 3.x.x domain .. especial the part of policies and scripts. i got the win7 running in the samba domain, but i'm stuck in the policies part.. and i don't want to use nitrobit for this. how do other users do this.. ?! thx, Collen

good day... well just need some good input on how to backup a samba server, and to preserve the posix-acl's.. got 1 pdc and 1 bdc running, but it seems that there isn't a good way to make a backup with acl.. nfs4 doesn't have anny good support for acl's (yet) so i tried to mount a samba share with mount -t smbfs.. no acl's there ?? so please is there a protocol/service that i

well the subject tell's it.. it's not able to change password's for users from a miupoms xp/2000 machine... windows is complaining about, domain not availeable.. and samba show's an (incor.password lenght error) i used an password over 5 char's (6 and 8) and the min. passwd lenght is 5 !! anny clue's?? there is an encryped passwords=yes in the conf.. l8r

Well, i have a serious problem, all of an sudden samba rejects all my workstations and servers! my samba PDC reports back to me, secrets_fetch failed! nothing has changed, or altered.. it comes out of the blue! i did upgrade samba from 3.0.11 to 3.0.21, but that was 2 weeks ago, and the upgrade worked. Hello, does anyone know if there is a tool in existence that can monitor samba shares like smbstatus but is much more advanced (and runs in console) , I mean a tool that has menues, some search options, and things sorted out nice. just noticed the following problem.. after running samba 302rc1(as pdc) for a few day's. old SMBD pid's are left in the procces tree.. eating memory and cpu time, causing linux to overload and not function annymore. after stopping samba, the smbd pid's will stay. stopping samba the 2nd time will do the trick, they finaly disapear... so you have to stop samba twice.. ?? don't
