backing up samba?
Hey List- What are the appropriate files to be backing up on a samba PDC? I'm thinking: smb.conf /usr/local/etc/samba/ directory /var/db/samba/ directory /etc/passwd & /etc/master.passwd This is running on FreeBSD as the PDC of the domain. If I need to rebuild or wipe and upgrade this box I do not want to have to re-install all the Windows clients into the domain and into the

samba and proftpd authentication
Hey List- Since samba is in the middle..trying here first. I have a samba FreeBSD box as just a member server which was authenticating against a samba PDC. For other reasons we migrated that to a Win2003 ADS box. I got the member server to join the ADS domain and users who are logged in can browse the shares, etc... without issue. The problem I have is that proftpd (via PAM) is no longer

samba4 domain member and multiple domains
Hello. I've got a samba4 domain member server. It works fine for the joined domain, but I'm not able to let user from a different domain get access. This worked fine on my samba3 member server, but I don't remember if I did anything special. I do have authentication set on the AD object for the users in question and we have a one-way trust with the other domain. All DCs are Windows

wpi driver freeze on boot
I've got a HP dv8000 laptop. Setting up the wpi driver for wireless freezes the system on boot with the following error: wpi0 requested unsupported memory range wpi0: could not allocate memory resource It lists a pcbi device (pcbi4 i think) and an actual memory range, but since I have to reboot using kernel.old the /var/run/dmesg.boot is wiped with the info. Is there anyway to grab the

Warning when compiling nmbd_incomingdgrams.c
I just downloaded samba-1.9.18p3.tar.gz and compiled it on a DEC 3000/300 running OSF/1 v3.0 (uname -mrsv gives: "OSF1 V3.0 347 alpha") using the built-in cc compiler. The compiler gives the following warning: Compiling nmbd_incomingdgrams.c /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Warning: nmbd_incomingdgrams.c, line 452: Unknown character \ ignored ((DEBUGLEVEL>=(5))?(Debug1

NMBD unresponsive
Hi there, I have found a problem with my Samba server 3.0.28. This problem appeared suddenly without any changes in configuration or server update. NMBD becomes unresponsive in some minutes after startup with these options enabled: name resolve order = wins lmhosts hosts wins server = 172.25.8.86 172.25.8.84 Unresponsive means that it is not possible to connect to server, nmbd eats full

SCO lan manager
We have a linux pc (slackware 4.0, samba 2.0.5) acting as a gateway between two subnet of our office. On my side of the net I have a mixed win95/NT/Samba network, and on the other side we have some sco unix servers, running an old lan-manager, os/2 like. Gateway linux is a master browser, that enable us to see the other subnet, but... I can't see the record for the sco-server in

Samba 3.0/wins.dat - 'Old' IP being served
Hi all, We have a weird problem, Samba is providing an outdated IP address for a client (XP Pro) machine. This means that the client machine is not contactable by the other machines on the network. The IP is that which was previously used when connecting via the company VPN, although the machine has/is now plugged onto the company network and had has new IP via DHCP. This problem continues

kjournald tuning
While investigating erratic performance on one our our servers, I'm getting some very odd performance stats coming from vmstat. What initially appeared to be happening is the machine goes into a hard loop in some mod_perl webserver code. Now there still may be an issue with the code, but my code examinations show no possible way this could be happening, but what I'm writing to you

Unable to mount SMB shares under Mac OS 10.6.5
Help - (I'm new to the list, so please be gentle) I've tried Seagate support, and Apple Forums with no resolution or adequate suggestions for troubleshooting/resolving this issue, so I thought I'd try the samba community. It's a bit esoteric for me/most Mac users (SMB shares under Max OS X), but I thought I'd give it a try. I can no longer mount any shares from my Seagate
