lmer(): specifying i.i.d random slopes for multiple covariates
Dear readers, Is it possible to specify a model y=X %*% beta + Z %*% b ; b=(b_1,..,b_k) and b_i~N(0,v^2) for i=1,..,k that is, a model where the random slopes for different covariates are i.i.d., in lmer() and how? In lme() one needs a constant grouping factor (e.g.: all=rep(1,n)) and would then specify: lme(fixed= y~X, random= list(all=pdIdent(~Z-1)) ) , that?s how it's done in the

termplot and ylim
Hi together, I always get an error message with using ylim in termplot(), like this: > x<-(1:10) > y<-(10:1) > l<-lm(y~x) > termplot(l,ylim=c(1,2)) Is this a bug, or is there another possibility to do that? Especially, I would like to use term.plot() for gamlss objects. Thanks for your help! Andreas -- Echte DSL-Flatrate dauerhaft f?r 0,- Euro*!

PXE Linux (Simple Menu) freeze after pressing 23 times return
Yes it sounds silly, but its true. I made a menu with some submenu with the simple menu system. After pressing 23 times return to get into the submenu or back to the mainmenu it freeze. I think this is a bug of syslinux. I tried it on 3 different PC/Servers always the same effect. Here is my default and one of my submenu files: default: #Projekt PXE-Boot von Franz Lang www.franz-lang.com

P3Scan support
Hello, I want to ask if CentOS will support P3Scan (http://p3scan.sourceforge.net/) as RPM delivered with the distribution? For explanation: P3Scan is an transparent mailproxy. It uses ClamAV and SpamAssassin to distinguish between Spam- Virus- and normal Mail. Its more usefull to get an update via the repos instead of compiling it by myself. I hope you understand my englisch. ;) Greets Jens

nested ANCOVA
Dear R-users, is there a chance to do an nested ANCOVA in R? I've read the archive mails but it doesn't work. We have the following situation: We are interested in differences in carabid biomass at different aged woodlands. Thus, we have a nested design with 2 fixed groups (0=recent, 1=ancient) and 10 woodlands (each with 8 replications/traps) per fixed group. Woodland is therfore

Rsync dies with "Invalid file index:" error message
Hi all, i'm having a rather strange problem with rsync (v2.6.8). Rsync is run to synchronize two identical, rather old Solaris 2.6 servers. All filesystems rsync fine except for one. Rsync bails out on this particular FS with the following messages: # /var/tmp/bin/rsync -avz -e "ssh -i $keyfile" --exclude-from=/tmp/rsync_data.excl server:/data/ /data receiving file list ... done ./

malloc: vm_allocate(size=381886464) failed (error code=3)
Hi all, I am having memory allocation problem with my R 2.2.1 for Mac OS. The following is the error message that I get. I do not get this message if I break down the large dataset in to sub datasets. I think breaking up the dataset is not a sustainable solution in the long run. The data that I am analysing is essentially big, and it would be reasonable to do the analyis on the whole dataset

How to define class type hierarchy of speeds?
Hi I''m very very new to tc iproute etc and have read the LARTC howto. What I want to do is create some "master" classes of bandwidth limit and below that per ip address which "inherits" from this master class. Example: one queue for 128Kbps other queue for 256Kbps What I want now is that for example in "class" 128Kbps the ip 10.0.0.5, 10.0.0.8 etc. goes

A problem about updating an FXRuby program layout recursively
Dear all, I have a design question: assume we have an FXText field containing a sentence The <best> Ruby version is the current one. with "best" highlighted, and there is a choice of words | most wonderful |, | cutest |, | most effective | to replace "best". To do the replacement, I want to just click on any of three buttons. I want to iterate through all of the

wireplot margins and additional z-axis
Dear R experts, it would be very kind if you could help me with two wireplot problems. First, when I make a wireplot and transform it into an .eps using the postscript function the eps-file leaves always a lot of space below the plot, as if it would leave space for a legend or something like that. How can i get the plot into the bottom corner without the space below? The space is not there when

bug? rsync counts inaccesible file as being transferred
hello, with --stats, shouldn`t we differ between "number of files transferred" and "number of files failed" ? the problem is, that i have files which ALWAYS fail on transfer, and to check for "number of files failed"<=2 would be the best way for me to check if the overall transfer was ok. if i magaged to create a patch to adress this, would such patch be

Fixed Point on wideband-mode: Single Frame loss on 2000 Hz sine causes "freak off"
Hi, I'm quite sure we found a bug inside the codec (1.2rc1, wideband mode). It only occurs when speex is compiled with the FIXED_POINT flag. I feed in a 2000 Hz sine wave (-15 dBFS). When I simulate a single frame loss (i.e. pass a null pointer to speex_decode_int as second parameter for just one frame), the decoder starts to freak out a second later: It produces horrible noise with 0 dBFS.

High CPU usage
Hi Jean-Marc, I tried to add VERY_SMALL at the input of the encoder, but that did not change much. Here's a list of source code locations where denormals appear for the first time as calculation results. This list is based on a 4 minutes recording of ambient sound that is passed to speexenc 1.2rc1 with the command line --narrowband --denoise --agc --abr 15000
