Problem calling executable with document as argument
Hello all,
I'm performing some tests with Wine, since we have only one Windows
server in our network, used for specific purposes.
One of the services which I intend to migrate to Linux/Wine is called
"SIAFI Gerencial", which runs EDM Client to update a local database
from a remote database.
Here's the deal. I've copied all EDM files to my desktop to perform the testing.

Help please. Don't want to go back to Windows
I need a program called encompass in order to do my work and it's giving an error right out of the gate. I've never used wine before so maybe I am doing something wrong?
The installer program is available here if anyone is willing to try it:

kernel udp rate limit
Hi List.
First post, be gentle please.
Is there any limit in the linux UDP rate?
I am using linux kernel 2.6 and iperf to measure bandwidth
between two endpoints connected by 100 Mbits ethernet.
Running (as root) iperf -u -s
and iperf -u -c always gives me 1.05 Mbits/seg
even when runned in the same machine.
Can somebody clarify this?
Thanks in advance.

Installing Icecast...
I'm trying (and failing) to install Icecast on a fresh-off-the-line
Redhat 9.0 box.
When I attempt to install the RPM with the command:

evaluation of discriminant functions+multivariate homosce dasticity
While I don't know anything about Box's M test, I googled around and found a
Matlab M-file that computes it. Below is my straight-forward translation of
the code, without knowing Matlab or the formula (and done in a few minutes).
I hope this demonstrates one of Prof. Ripley's point: If you really want to
shoot yourself in the foot, you can probably program R to do that for you.

Is Ferret''s SVN repository down?
Is Ferret''s SVN repository down? I''m trying to get the source from
svn://davebalmain.com/ferret, but I keep getting "Connection Refused"
errors. Did the URL change, or is Ferret''s repository really down?

Possible bug when creating a Ferret::Search::Sort object?
I may have run across a bug in Ferret: if throws a segmentation fault
when I try to create a Sort object using the default fields (SCORE and
DOC_ID), but setting reverse to true.
Here''s the minimal example:

Hanging SMBD processes - Samba CRASHING
Hi folks,
We have been experiencing problems with one of our Samba servers here
for a while now and need a little help. First off we are running Fedora
Core 3, kernel version 2.6.12-1, and Samba version 3.0.20b. Our hardware
is a RAID 5 DELL PowerEdge 700 server. The problem I am about to
describe has occurred on this server in previous versions of samba prior
to version 3.0.20b and has the

Problem
------------
SMBD processes spawn out of control until the Samba stops responding.
Restarting the service does not clear the processes. Only a reboot of
the server will bring it back to a usable state.
This server is home to our postgres databases, Access front ends, and
Production Files (excel, word...). It is a samba domain member server.
We have multiple Samba file servers

Phantom workgroup
I have a Samba 3.0.4 server configured as a PDC. NetBIOS name of the
server is "SERVER"; name of the workgroup is "AEC".
Problem is that there's now a phantom workgroup called "SERVER" when I
try to browse the network. Since there's no clients configured in this
workgroup, any attempts to browse this workgroup fail.
When I attempt to use User Manager for

authentication problem
Hi all:
I have a strange authentication problem. Samba box is running on a local
network with about 300 Win2000 and WinXP clients as a domain member. No
problems with local authentication to printer resources. On the WAN, all
other locations with Win2000 and WinXP clients can access resources no
problem. There are also Terminal Servers in each location (about a dozen
different cities) and all

Samba 3.0.4 and DOS 6.2.2
Hi,
I have a problem with Samba 3.0.4 and DOS 6.2.2.
Our clientinstallation works with PXE. This setup connects the samba-server
with a DOS 6.2.2 batch-script, which attempts to copy a text-file from the
client to the installation-share.
I have interrupted the script and attempted to do the copy manually.
Error-message: File not found.

Server name appears as domain name
I've got a Samba 3.0.4 server running on RedHat 8.0 as a PDC. It's the
only domain controller on the network, and the only WINS server on the
network.
The problem is, when I browse the network neighborhood, I see the
NetBIOS name of the server ("SERVER") appear as a workgroup/domain
(though there are no hosts listed in this phantom domain). It also
appears as a computer under

RSpec-Rails bug with to_xml?
Hello, everyone. I''ve been lurking here for a while, but this is my first post.
I think I''ve run into a RSpec bug in a Rails project I''m working on. I
was working on a few REST controllers, and started getting failures on
a specific spec that verified whether a certain action returned XML
output. I spent quite a lot of time checking my code to see if it was
something I
