[Repost] Offline Files No Go
Dear All, I want to enable Offline Files support on several Win2K SP4 laptops. We have a samba file server. I have researched as much as I could to get answers and here is what I have. I am unfortunately unable to get this working properly. If anyone can answer or point me in to a good resource, I would greatly appreciate that. I am attempting to offline profile directories mapped to

edited tdb... restart samba?
I had to remove reference to some printer drivers via tdbtool on ntdrivers.tdb. 1. Do I need to restart smbd and nmbd to make these changes take effect? 2. If I restart smbd and nmbd will connected users get disconnected?

Samba 3 as PDC and a Windows 2000 Server for RIS
Hello, I would like to install a Windows 2000 Server and configure it with RIS (remote installation services). The server is in a domain where a Samba 3 server, a machine with SuSE Linux and Samba 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE, plays the PDC role. The PDC works well. When I try to configure RIS in the application wizard (appwiz.cpl) of that Windows 2000 Server machine, it tells me that the setup for RIS

CHANGING PRIMARY GROUP
Hi to all, I have a samba acting as a PDC with 'passdb backend=smbpasswd'. My version of samba is 3.0.14a on linux Debian 2.6.8. I have defined an interdomain trusted connection with a NT4 domain. I can see the trusted accounts and groups, and add them to local group with the 'net rpc group.' command. My problem is when I want to allow one user from this trusted

TDB database commands (TDB used by SAMBA)
Background: FREEBSD 11.2 - SAMBA 4.10.15 Hello everyone, Good evening/afternoon/morning. I am trying to "reuse" the TDB database to my portal, where I want to store basically 3 information: IP address , Name, TimeStamp - where IP would be the KEY and "NAME,TIMESTAMP" would be the VALUE. I am using the tdbtool to insert/store data successfully (like the example below)

Issue w/ winbind loosing AD user
Hello all! I have a question that is bugging me. I am running a production RedHat EL3 machine for about a year now with Samba version 3.0.9-1.3E.2 My personal user account stopped working two days ago. I initially thought my password expired, so I reset it in AD. But I can log onto my win2k box without issue, but not into my linux file server. I checked to see if my machine had been cracked

gencache.tdb growing and growing and...
Is it normal that the gencache.tdb should grow and grow “forever” and fill up with “RA/<hex>” posts? I’ve been investigating why our Samba 4.7.3 servers (happened with older version 4 servers too) would use such insane amounts of memory on our FreeBSD 11.1 servers (we see smbd processes using hundreds of megabytes of RAM and up to 5GB virtual memory). Anyway, one part that seems to use

How to regenerate passdb.tdb
Hi, I was having problem with the tdbsam backend in which a particular user got listed twice with pdbedit. (http://www.mail-archive.com/samba at lists.samba.org/msg109110.html) Without much hope in fixing it, I am planning to re-generating passdb.tdb on my PDC by: (1)exporting tdbsam to smbpasswd backend (2)delete passdb.tdb (3)re-import smbpasswd to tdbsam backend With the command `

How to repair corrupt ntprinters.tdb?
Hi, we are using samba 3.0.24 as a printspooler for 80 network printers with a 500kB ntprinters.tdb for some years now. When we recently restarted samba we noticed that the ntprinters.tdb automatically shrinked to 24kB and printing was no longer possible. tdbdump of the original tdb-file is impossible too: "Failed to open ntprinters.tdb" The strange thing about this: we can solve

updating TDB user/group entries to RID
Hi, I wonder if there are any tools to simplify transition from TDB to RID on existing system in production. Long story short, by mistake one of our servers were configured with default idmap set to a range: idmap config * : backend = tdb idmap config * : range = 3000-7999 The server had joined domain and everything works just fine however I may need to fix user/group ids and make it like

Expiry of entries in netsamlogon_cache.tdb
I think we're suffering from bug 8641 at the moment: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8641 where the netsamlogon_cache.tdb entries are not expiring. We use AD groups for our (redhat) server auth, and also use server-side group auth for NFS (with the --manage-gids flag). So if a user is not in a group on the server, they're denied access to files as per group permissions.

Missing record in share-info.tdb
I may have a clue. I have two servers running Samba 3.2.3, one as a Domain Controller one as a Member Server. Both are running Ubuntu 8.10. smbd, nmbd and winbindd using the tdb back end are running on both. On the Member Server when I access the [Projects] share everything works as expected. When I access the [Windows] share I get prompted for a user name and password but no combination

Making nt_printer.tdb from tdbtool?
Hello All -- We are trying to consolidate our printer management from a series of NT print servers to a series of Samba ones, in a global network with ten offices and about 150 printers. All printing is PostScript and goes to HP and Canon printers over lpd through custom 'if' filters which do accounting. To help this we're trying to automate the printer and driver registration

tdb Format
Hello All, I think I touched on this subject on another thread when I was having problems joining a WIN2k SP3 machine to the domain. Anyway, does anyone know of a way to modify machine accounts in the new format .tdb. The old way was pretty simple as it only required one to modify a text file like smbpasswd. I'd like to know what machine accounts I have listed in this file and simply

TDB changes between 3.0 and 3.6
Hi, For reasons I'll explain below for those interested, I need to downgrade Samba from 3.6.16 to 3.0.36. Are there changes to the TDB files that will cause problems when I do this? And if there are, is there a relatively easy way to fix it? Thanks, Rob Boring description of why I need to do this: I support a product that is based on Linux and includes Samba to provide CIFS support. The
