Hi, when I run a nmap localhost I see that port 199 is open for the smux service but when I check the services gui in runlevel 3 or 5 I don't find it. It's also not in /etc/init.d/ At the moment almost everything is inactive except for some well known services like httpd crond etc. but mux is still there. Does anyone know how to colse this service? regards, ivago -------------- next

nmap not scanning networks?
Hello! Attempt to scan a network with any method except plain ping results in an error: truss nmap -sT -p 21 '172.19.17.*' [...] sendto(0x4,0x8094200,0,0x0,{ AF_INET 172.19.17.0:0 },0x10) ERR#49 'Can't assign requested address' [...] What's strange that man on send(2) doesn't state that EADDRNOTAVAIL can ever be returned from sendto(). Quick look at nmap's site

Print spooler full with completed print jobs
Hi, I have Panasonic KX-P7105 printer connected through LPT1 port to the "D-link DP-101P+" print server. This printer is defined as raw and I am using it only for printing from different windows clients. Drivers are only on windows client side. On linux side I never print one page. NMDB not bound to 127.0.0.1
After updating Samba from 3.0.20 to 3.0.21c NMDB is only bound to my NIC's IP but no longer to 127.0.0.1 though my smb.conf parameters are interfaces = 127.0.0.1, 192.168.x.x/255.255.255.0 bind interfaces only = yes As a result SWAT does not show the status of NMDB any longer. Any idea which parameters are different to 3.0.20 or is this a bug in 3.0.21c?

Question on number of winbindd demons
Winbindd is supposed to have 2 processes running according to the documentation. When I start my samba server (security=ADS), I can see at least 4 Winbindd demons? (A) Is this intended? (B) How can I limit the number of winbindd processes? Kind regards, Jens

Re: URGENT!!!!! Problem: outlook.pst with samba 3.0.21c!!!!!!!!
You should give us a look at your smb.conf. AFAIK from my very own experience: 3.0.21c somehow behaves different from 3.0.20 with the same smb.conf. Maybe you have to set some values which did not have to be set before. Cacti-based monitoring
Hi, I maintain several dom0 hosts, and I would like to monitor the following with Cacti: * the overall hypervisor CPU usage * available hypervisor memory (e.g. memory that can be allocated to new domUs) and maybe: * domU CPU usage But the latter is not as important to me right now. Anyone have any pointers on how I might do this? My knowledge of Cacti is very basic. Basically: has anyone

ACLs fail in 3.0.23d
Whenever I try to read or modify ACLs from my Windows 2000 PDC, my Samba Domain Member Server (Security = ADS) does not allow setting ACLs, nor does it display the existing ACLs. - I have setup ACLs in my Kernel - I have translated and installed libacl and libattr - I can see and modify ACLs with getfacl and setfacl. - I have translated Samba 3.0.23d with --with-acl-support=yes - I have enabled

Does this tell me anything? Traffic report
I'm trying to get Samba up and running and having a terrible time. It says that I should be able to run nmap and see that 137 and 139 are open - which they are not. I have not added any restrictions in smb.conf, do not have a firewall running and I have increased the log level to 5 to see all of the messages. It says that it is talking on 137 but it kind of looks like it's not talking
