FC4, Samba 3.0.14-2, Windows 2K: cannot access home directory
What might be the possible causes of an smbclient NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
error? smbclient generates this error when I attempt to connect to my [homes]
share from a Mandrake Linux 10.1 (Samba 3.0.7) box to my Fedora Core 4 box
(Samba 3.0.14a-2). Similarly, my Windows 2000 machine complains that folder

Hola:
I have configured samba-3.0.14a-2 on FC4 as a member of a Windows

samba start: not working in /etc/init.d/smb ???
Hi everybody,
This may be a stupid question, but I really don't get it. When I restart my
Linux box (occasionnaly / rarely), samba is not working from my Windows
station. I can't connect to the samba drive. If I do /etc/init.d/smb
restart, it doesn't work either.
After many unsuccessfull problem determination, I found that there is two
ways to correct this:
1- kill smbd -D process

Hi,
I'm trying to mount with smbmount a WinNT4.0 share resource from a Linux

The resource name includes grave accented characters, in particular: =E0.

File System Size Limits?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Is there some limit on the size of a file system which can
be shared via samba? I'm trying to set up a file server
with a 100GB shared partition and it doesn't want to work.
I'm running Fedora Core 4, and Samba Version 3.0.14a-2.
The output from testparm looks like this:

How to mount a resource with non ascii chars??
Hi Samba Users,
After searching through recent archives, I'd like to pose this question:
How does one smbmount a Windows a share with non-ascii letters in the
share name?
Let's say the target is Windows 2000 Pro Deutsch (German).
It has two shares: /data and /d?ta [d,umlaut-a,t,a]
From Redhat linux 2.7.4 and 2.4.18 I try to mount these directories.
mount -t smbfs -o

Mappoing from Samba client to \\server\share\dir ?
Hi!
How do I create a mountpoint with smbmount, that attaches to
\\server\share\dir (on a Windows 2000 server) ?? If I mount to
\\server\share I'm not able to see anything - but the mapping to the same
server (from a Win2000 client) is okay, and I can see the contents of the
directory... Trying to map to //server/share/dir gives me an error:

Hi,
I don't know why smbmount doesn't work. My samba version is 3.0.0. Remote server (192.168.1.1) is running samba 3.0.0 too. Both are linux machines.

How do I create the samba user
I used samba on FC3 with no problems.
I recently upgraded to a new computer AMD 64 X2 and I installed 64 bit FC4.
Samba seems to be mostly configured correctly, except that it appears as
though somehow for the installation I do NOT have a samba user.
If I had to guess, I would say that I have version 3.0.14a-2 for x86_64.
I logged in from a windows computer and I was able to look at my home

"deep" tree mounting?
Hi,
I'm attempting to use a version 3 smbmount to mount my windows home

The command I'm using is "smbmount //servername/a/aclrk
/home/aclrk/smb-home" which fails with:

SMB Connection failed.
Now I know that the share exists - it's mapped to the 'My Documents'

ldapsam:trusted = yes : trouble getting it to work
I have been trying for a while now to enable set the parameter ?ldapsam:trusted? to ?yes? in smb.conf but as soon as I enable it, users cannot access shares anymore. I am trying to enable this because the users are member of a lot of groups and I want to take the stress off the ldap server. I have searched the lists for previous posts with the same problem and I tried to figure out if it has been

Desiring to set up Windows Vista and Linux Fedora Core 4
Greetings!
Tonight is unfortunately the first small bit of time I've had to even
try to get Samba configured between my Vista and my Linux FC4. (My mother
as well as my extremely limited home time dealing with important things
are my main delays.)
It's not going well. :-)
I have added hosts allow with 192.168.1 and 192.168.2. I have
experimented with a few things. I
