how to check open connections/files without smbstatus / swat
Hi,
I have one user who should be able to _view_ all open files and
connections on a samba server.
He should not be allowed to login to the server by telnet or ssh to use
smbstatus, nore should he be able to use swat as long as he could view
the configfile.
So my question: is there a way to configure swat for one user to only
view the opened connections? Or dose someone has an other idea?

3.0.8pre2 and smbstatus
Hallo,
in 3.0.8pre2 the smbstatus command always shows connections _and_ shares even if using the switches '-p' for showing processes only or '-S' for showing shares only or '-B' for showing locks only:
test2 # smbstatus --help
Usage: [OPTION...]
-p, --processes Show processes only
-v, --verbose Be verbose

smbstatus doesn't show client names
Hi,
not really a problem, but it's annoying: when I run smbstatus on my PDC
it shows the ip addresses, not the names of clients. The PDC is 3.0.21a,
acting as a wins server (name resolution from the clients works fine),
the clients are 3.0.14a samba and Windows XP. Has anyone seen this
before and/or knows how to fix it?

mod_ntlm_winbind
Is there a mod_ntlm_winbind for apache or is that just for squid? I want to
use NTLM authentication for our intranet apache server.

Primary Group == Windows-Group?
Hello,
1:
I've read, that primary-group of a user must be a windows-group?
Is that true?
2.
Why is there no group named 'Power Users' in Samba? (Actually there is
only 'Domain Users' with insufficiant permissions on a win-box)

smbstatus show open files when none are
I recently (a few weeks ago) installed 1.9.18p8 in order
to get better performance with an Access Database, which along
with adding a TCP_NODELAY in the [global] section has that
working like a charm. Thing that's bugging me now is smbstatus.
When I run it I see open files listed when I know that they aren't.
The following output shows quite a few files open that aren't
really. The

smbstatus: who opened the file?
In the smbstatus output, "Locked files" section, there's a list
of locked files (effectively opened files, since windows always locks
a file which it opens) and corresponding pid of smbd process. How to
map this information to user ID?
Thanks,
/mjt

W2k logged out workstations keep 'alive' at smbstatus (3.0.23a)
Hi,
At first my context now:
-Slackware 10.2 ( no PAM ), Samba 3.0.23a, OpenLdap 2.3.24,
smbldap-tools 0.9.2.
and before:
-Slackware 10.0, Samba 3.0.10, Openldap 2.2.x, smbldap-tools 0.8x
After adjustments in the LDAP configuration and smb.conf, my
Samba is running. Workstations are ( almost completely ) W2K. I have
already included, deleted and changed new users. I had

users.map and real UID (smbstatus)
L.S.
We use SAMBA 2.0.7 on SGI IRIX 6.5.4m to facilitate using unix shares on
NT/W95 clients.
I created a users.map with e.g. next line:
aitht = nltroo01
when NT-domain user nltroo01 maps a unix share (via unix homes share) indeed
his unix home directory (usr/people/aitht) is mapped to the client.
Inspecting the process on the SGI-machine (SGUX07) with smbstatus however
shows that user nobody

smbstatus - switched off computers are sometimes showed
I have a Samba server configured as PDC for ~100 computers. It's version
3.0.24 running on Debian Etch (distribution package).
I want to write a tool for user logon/logoff tracking. Because parsing
log files is hard job (windows frequently disconnets or connects during
user session or etc.) I decide to use smbstatus output which seem to be
reliable.
So I run smbstatus binary every 10

Samba 3 smbstatus not as good
I use a lot of "force user" and "force group" directives on various
shares. With smbstatus of Samba 2 I could always verify with a glance
what uid and gid a particular service is being accessed as, with Samba 3
you can't. I'd REALLY like to see that come back to smbstatus.
Here's a real world example of my complaint...

I am running Samba version 2.0.6 on Solaris 2.6. When I run smbstatus, it
coredumps. Here is some detailed information that may help in killing this
bug.
This is a run of smbstatus where it coredumps, and afterwards, a gdb
session.

smbstatus getting a SIGBUS error
Somemore information regarding the smbstatus error.
The sigbus error is occuring where I noted below. I now have data
values to go along with the location. The SIGBUS generating bit is
"entry_scanner_p->e.pid" which looks to be in an unaccessable area of
memory. Looking back through the code, I find a couple of bizarities.
For example file_scanner_p->num_share_mode_entries

Samba 3.0.4: some problems with SWAT/STATUS and smbstatus
Hi,
I just installed Samba 3.0.4 on a Solaris 2.6 server. I had no
problem compiling, intalling and configuring it, and everything seems to go
OK. People can connect to all the configured shares without any problem.
But I have some problems when getting server status either via
SWAT/STATUS or using smbstatus:
First, in the "Client" field of the SWAT/STATUS report I have

smbstatus hangs after upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.6
Dear list,
I have just upgraded our main Samba server from version 2.2.8a to 3.0.6.
It seems to be working fine except for 2 things:
1. when I use smbstatus(or swat/status) only some of the connections
are listed and then smbstatus hangs forever(swat comes back after
a while, but only with some of the connections)
Have any of you experienced something similar ?
How can I debug
