OS X Finder - Zero KB Available, Write Problems, Uggh
Dear list-
On all of our Mac OS X (Samba) clients (10.3, 10.4) I have been experiencing the
following problem: users would not be able to write to a published Samba
shares UNLESS tha Global parameter "Max Disk Size = xxxxxx" is set
in the Samba server's config file. I first discovered this issue while
setting up a Linux server (using the 2.4 kernel and version 3.0 of Samba) last

We have Ubuntu 8.04 running with FreeNX server on our 'remote desktop server' linux machine.
We can connect to the Ubuntu machine with the NoMachine NxClient from Windows, Linux and Mac OS 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5.
We also have Wine 1.0 installed on the Ubuntu machine, and we run a variety of Windows applications and utilities in the remote desktops from clients on all 3 systems

Making rsync compile under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes
Somebody knows if it's possible to compile rsync (version 3 would be
great, but can be 2.6.x) under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes?
Under OS 10.3.9 the Apple shipped rsync have not yet the -E argument
option. RsyncX have a double free bug that is annoying. "Q" rsync
2.6.6 with extended attributes binary only works on 10.4 and above.
I have tried to compile rsync

Linux Samba to Mac OSX: resource fork lock problems?
I am seeking a better workaround than I currently have for the problem.
Using OS X 10.3.x and 10.4.x (and possibly other versions) as workstations,
and Gentoo Linux (kernel 2.6.16) with Samba 3.0.22, I have the following
sequence of events. The symptom is most prevalent when dealing with multi
MB files:
1. Resource fork (._ file) gets locked
2. File associated with resource fork also gets

OSX file creation problems
I am running a REHL 4.3 server with samba RPMs:
3.0.10-1.4e.9
When an os X client connects to our samba server it can copy files from
the server an overwrite other files that already exist. However when it
comes time to create a file, it fails, where this process works
correctly from a windows system. In addition, I can go to where the
volume is mounted on the os X (10.3.7) machine and copy

Data Migration NT -> Linux
hi
after successfully migrating users and groups from NT to Samba v3 i'm
looking for a way to transfer some 1TB data from our old NT PDC to the
newer one - Samba
just copying the data doesn't work, because we have to ensure data
consictency (and we can't switch the NT PDC off on a weekend to copy it,
because it would take too long [some old MAC shares included and the PDC

RoR - Mac OS 10.4.4 on Intel
I got a new 20 inch iMac dual core today and am busy getting it all
setup. A couple of issues though:
1. Is the Ruby 1.8.2 install by Apple still botched or has that been
fixed? I recall someone had fixed the rbconfig.rb to get it working.
Is this something I still have to do?
2. Does anyone know if Locomotive is using the uniersal binaries, or is
it targetting PPC yet? I couldn''t

[Mac OS X 10.4] object R_loess_raw not found
Hello,
Since I (finally) upgraded to 10.4 "Tiger", I've been experiencing
some strange behaviour with dynamic libraries.
When I now launch R, and try to use the loess() function from the

Mac OSX doesn't retain file timestamp when copying to SAMBA share
Hi All,
I'm not sure what's causing this but every time I copy a file from one
of the Macs (details below) to the Samba server the file timestamp is
changed to the copy time rather than retaining the last modified time.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Systems:
Mac OSX (versions 10.3.x -> 10.4.x)
Windows 2000 Professional
Solaris 10 running Samba 3.0.11

Please help I fear I have missed something very important! but what?
Sorry about this, I have been struggling with the basics of my asterisk
config.
I set up two sip peers and two phones. And I set up lots of dial masks
for outgoing calls, all my outgoing calls were working great, however
incoming calls were a different matter altogether, I cannot get incoming
calls to work. So I have gone back to a very basic FWD config, with one
phone which as far as I am aware

[Mac OS X 10.4] object R_loess_raw not found (reason found)
Well... this may be a red herring after all, but it's an interesting one!
It turns out I have got DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH set. This gets exported to R
(or rather, affects the loader that loads the R process?), and somehow
mixes up the way symbols are exported. Something that applies to
launching R from the command line (/usr/bin/R) AND via LaunchServices
(open -a R). Once I noticed that invoking

OS X intel
Hi Sean
Thanks for the info on OS intel.
Glad that at least it''s only broken on Scintilla, not generally. If you
could upload a gem w/o Scintilla that would be great.
Perhaps some library or framework that''s needed on 10.4 that 10.3
doesn''t need. I don''t know.
cheers

rsync 2.5.5 and Mac OS X
Greetings,
Has anyone successfully compiled rsync 2.5.5 under Mac OS X (not
Server), and actually have it work fully?
I'm in a position where I'm trying to setup an automated nightly remote
backup between and Cobalt Raq4 (running a variant of Redhat Linux) and a
Mac running OS X 10.1.5 with the latest development tools installed. As
has been pointed out previously on the list, one has

R for Mac OS X: 10.3.9 is obsolete?
Dear all,
I am highly disappointed of the following decision:
===
... Starting with R 2.3.0, CRAN binaries support Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and higher only.
===
Of course,
===
It is, however, possible to compile binaries for earlied OS X versions from sources.
===
But the process, described on
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/RMacOSX-FAQ.html#Building-R-from-sources consists of more than
