hanging smbd(s).....
dear all,
the following problem occurs periodically (appr. once a week) here:
the number of smbd(s) will dramatically rise (up to 500 and more...)
when having a look what the proccesses are doing i only see that they
are waiting for getting a lock:
fcntl64(4, F_SETLKW64, {type=F_WRLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=240, len=1}, 0xbfefa5c0) = 0

Hanging SMBD processes - Samba CRASHING
Hi folks,
We have been experiencing problems with one of our Samba servers here
for a while now and need a little help. First off we are running Fedora
Core 3, kernel version 2.6.12-1, and Samba version 3.0.20b. Our hardware
is a RAID 5 DELL PowerEdge 700 server. The problem I am about to
describe has occurred on this server in previous versions of samba prior
to version 3.0.20b and has the

Problem
------------
SMBD processes spawn out of control until the Samba stops responding.
Restarting the service does not clear the processes. Only a reboot of
the server will bring it back to a usable state.
This server is home to our postgres databases, Access front ends, and
Production Files (excel, word...). It is a samba domain member server.
We have multiple Samba file servers

Smbd processes out of control
In the past few months we have seen a couple of our production servers
crash that are running samba-3.0.14a-1. What seems to happen is the
smbd pid's seem to grow and grow until an out of memory error occurs and
the smbd process just hangs. A simple restart does not even clear out
the pid's. I end up rebooting to just clear it all out and start
fresh. It probably has happened at

Over 400 smbd pid's?
Over the past 2 days, my smbd processes are multiplying worse than
rabbits. At least with rabbits it's easy to tell why you wind up
with so many...
Here's the setup:
Samba version 3.2.8-0.24 installed via rpm on a FC6 box with 2 nics,
both on the same subnet. The samba server acts as a PDC in a mixed
environment but mostly windows pc's running xp. It is used mostly

pxelinux.bin (3.80) hanging at the beginning of menu.c32 TFTP transfer
Hi,
Using syslinux 3.80, I'm seeing pxelinux.bin hanging after the
(succesfull) transfer of the default file.
Running a lan trace, it appears that all goes fine until the time
pxelinux sends a TFTP RRQ for menu.c32 to the TFTP server, gets the
first data packet back, and apparently freezes at this point.
The TFTP server then times out and retries (3 times) then finally
sends an error packet

Zap channels in AU hanging up on STD pips
Is anyone having/had a problem with a TDM400P card hanging up on STD
outbound calls as soon as the called party answers.
I'm guessing that * is responding to the STD pips in some way.

Hanging, uninterruptible smbd-process in "D"-state
Hello,
I run a samba server for windows users who access their user data via
samba. The samba server is NOT the domaincontroller. This task is
performed by a native windows machine. The samba server is running on a
pve virtual machine. All data that samba delivers to the windows users
are stored on two NFS servers (also VMs) and accessed via an automounted
NFS mount for each user on the

smbd hanging because netbios-ssn TCP connexion not seen as down
Hello,
(Samba 3.0.21c / Linux 2.4.27)
a smbd process was hanging on a file server since one day. This smbd
process was locking some files on the server, and that was causing some
share violation for a Windows user (well, that what I think).
I did a lsof on the smbd process, and I saw that the TCP netbios-ssn
connection was still seen as established with the machine of the windows
user that

Is this smbds in "D" state? If so, please contact RedHat. That's a
kernel bug, or something

smbd hanging on OS X 10.4.8
Hi,
If process all my mounts prior to the "..." bit below. It looks as if
it's hanging while processing some printer config. On that assumption
and since I don't and never have had any printers attached, I've
commented out the '[printers]' section from smb.conf. No section
contains a 'printable = yes'. I've tried with all sections containing

2.2.2 runaway SMBD process
Hello,
I am running Samba 2.2.2 with acl-0.7.16 on RedHat 6.2 (2.2.19). The PDC is
a Windows 2000 Server and the Samba server is a domain member using Winbind.
All the workstations are Windoze 2000 Pro with SP2.
Everything seemingly works fine but every day or two I get a runaway SMBD
process which hogs the CPU and becomes unkillable. The only resolution is
to reboot the server completely.

Hanging smbd Processes
To whom it may concern,
I have a machine that runs the smbd server daemon on an HP-UX 9.07 for users
that interact through Ntrigue. Unless the users exit out of their session
correctly or if their Ntrigue session times out, the smbd processes will
continue to run unless manually killed or the machine is rebooted. Is there any
way that we can clean out these unused smbd processes other

1.9.17p4 - Hanging smbd on logout ?!
Dear Samba Developers,
OS: Linux 2.0.31
Samba1.9.17p4
today I detected that smbstatus shows more users logged in as really using
the samba service.
It seems that at logoff sometimes the smbd won't die and won't free the
used tcp/ip socket:

smbd processes hanging around
Hi All,
I am using Samba 2.2.3a as PDC to Windows NT 4.0 workstations. The PDC
works fine except for the fact that the user processes (smbd) that are
spawned, stay for a while even after the user logs off. The behavior of
these processes is such that it is initially owened by user 'nobody' as
soon as user logs off and then the process is owned by 'root'. The process

Hanging, uninterruptible smbd-process in "D"-state
Hi,
tanks for the answer. Since /proc/<PID>/stack is a stack the topmost
element should be the task where it got stuck which is:
rwsem_down_write_slowpath which waits for getting a write lock semaphore:

I have been trying to solve this problem for quite some time now and I
really don''t have any further clue to investigate.

a ubuntu box with apache2 2.2.12-1ubuntu2.1
I have 4 different apps on the same box and each app has two mongrel

Polycom IP600 Phantom Ringing
Hello list:
I have a very odd problem. Seemingly randomly, my Polycom IP600 phones
will ring without a call being placed to it.
That is to say, a random phone will ring. Nothing shows up under Caller
ID. Even the buttons that light up to show an incoming call do not light
up. If you pick up the handset, you can hear the phone ring through the
speaker.
Hanging up the phone makes it stop
