PoE VOIP phones in Australia
Hi,
Are there any resellers of phones that can take power over ethernet in
Australia? All I can find for sale online is the BT-10[12], which is cheap
but not featureful enough, and the Snom 190, which is about right, but
neither of them support PoE. I'm particularly intereseted in the Snom 220
with the keypad expansion for our receptionist.
Although, could you make a PoE split-out cable

polycom custom ring tones (slightly OT)
Hi all,
Has anyone made up custom ring tones for the Polycom SIP phones? We use
different rings for different lines, but the ones it comes with are all very
similar. In the interesting of sharing, here's one I made up for paging:
<PAGE_BEEP se.pat.ringer.13.name="Page Beep"
se.pat.ringer.13.inst.1.type="chord" se.pat.ringer.13.inst.1.value="12"

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8
Bouncing a thread from the device drivers list:
http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=357176
Does anybody know if OpenSolaris will support this new Supermicro card,
based on the Marvell 88SE6480 chipset? It''s a true PCI Express 8 port JBOD
SAS/SATA controller with pricing apparently around $125.
If it works with OpenSolaris it sounds pretty much perfect.

removing daylight savings in R
Hi all,
I've been having some trouble with times in regards to daylight savings in R
version 2.8.1. I have an ORACLE database that R is importing data in from,
for the 2am and 2:30am time intervals for the dates that daylight savings
starts the times are getting read as NA values into R. I'm also finding that
if I open a R workspace from version 6.2.2,the datetimes are

Regular Crashes - Partially Solved
Thanks Paradise, this seems to have worked a treat!!!
I commented out the:
exten => 110,hint,SIP/110
lines which were in extensions_additional.conf for each sip extension I
had.
This seems to have stopped the crashes which were previously 3-5 times a
day, now:
System uptime: 1 day, 18 hours, 10 minutes, 3 seconds
Interestingly it had the knock on effect of fixing another problem I had

RPM support for package installation?
Hello,
Tech question, I hope this has not been addressed before. I searched help
archives and looked for online help but came up empty-handed.
My question is: (short version) Is there a RPM-supported version of
update.packages() for use with updating package libraries on managed
multi-user Linux networks?
Details:
I put in a request for updating the version of R on one of the hosts on my

name mangling makes 8.3 unreadable unlike Windows fileserver
Hi,
I'm cross-posting here from serverfault.com in case anyone can help. I
just found a similar question on askubuntu.com also without an answer.
Switched recently from W2K3 to Samba4.0.9/CentOS6.4 for our fileshare
for WinXP clients.
Have an ancient (1995!) piece of software that uses 8.3 filename format.
After the switch, long filenames became useless in the context of the

polycom repair
Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience getting Polycom phones repaired? The screen on
one of our IP600s got smashed, and I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to
get it repaired, or if it'd just be cheaper to buy a new phone.
Thanks,

rename(2), atomicity, crashes and fsync()
Hi all,
Recently there''s been discussion [1] in the Linux community about how
filesystems should deal with rename(2), particularly in the case of a crash.
ext4 was found to truncate files after a crash, that had been written with
open("foo.tmp"), write(), close() and then rename("foo.tmp", "foo"). This is
because ext4 uses delayed allocation and may not

multiple alternative LDAP backends
I'm using Samba marked 2.999+3.0cvs20020723 from Debian `sid'.
In smb.conf, I've got:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldaps://master.ldap.server ldapsam:ldaps://backup.ldap.server tdbsam
All works fine when both ldap servers are up, or when at least the
first is up. When the first is down, though, samba tries to connect
to it, doesn't manage to, and gives up instead of trying the

Polycom IP 600 DHCP problem
I've got a Polycom IP 600 that doesn't want to DHCP. It DHCPDISCOVERs,
there's a DHCPOFFER, it DHCPREQUESTs and a DCHPACK is returned, but 3
seconds later it repeats the process and never boots. The phone works fine
with a static IP, and the DCHP setup works ok for an IP 500. I updated to
bootrom 2.6.2 and sip firmware 1.5.2 which didn't help. Any suggestions?

Hello,
I've been trying to join w2k3 machine to samba 3 domain for a last few
hours. This is strange but all I get from joining process is: The
Specified User Already Exists. More than 100 machines running XP are
already added to the same domain as well as Linux machines. The only
problem I've got is 2003 server.
This w2k3 server is quite pure however it wasn't me who has installed

LDAP search for root.
Hello all!
Is there a reason that the "root" uid is sought after in "ldap suffix" and
not in "ldap user suffix","ldap suffix" when smbd is started?
This seems incorrect to me. I have three domains in the same tree and it's
arranged like so (varying the last dc on each suffix):
ldap group suffix = cn=Groups,dc=devex
ldap idmap suffix

SAMBA AIX Authentication using LDAP
hello,
Following some mail exchange between Pierre-alain Mercier and yourself, we
have tested a lot of SAMBA's configuration. Unfortunately, we still have
troubles using SAMBA/AIIX 5.3/LDAP, and until now no solution has been
found.
Our question is : "is it necessary to use some specific SAMBA objects
within LDAP ?" . See travce.log already sent to you by Pierre-Alain :
