Can't open shares using netbios names
I need a pointer to what Fine Manual I should go read to set up my netbios name resolution, because all my attempts to use netbios names are being resolved against dns ... I have one subnet (192.168.2/24), with several Fedora 11 machines and several Windows XP machines, and a couple SMB/CIFS NAS units which also share printers. No domain, it's all just a workgroup. The WinXP machines

Suggestion for quantile.default()
I'm not sure who is responsible for quantile(), but I assume they read this list. Ivan Frohne and I have produced a revision of the quantile.default() function which enables the computation of alternative sample quantile definitions. The code and .Rd file are attached. This enables the user to produce quantiles that are equivalent to those in various statistics package. There is a type

Count the number of occurences in ranges
I got a vector of probabilities like, probs<-c(0.001,0.5,0.02,1,.....) Is there any nice and easy builtin function to get the number of occurences within some specified probabality range. Like with 2% it would be occur[1] = sum(probs[probs>0&probs<0.02]) occur[2] = sum(probs[probs>0.02&probs<0.04]) ... occur[50] =sum(probs[probs>0.09] & probs<1) (If it was a

Plot dies with memory not mapped (segfault) (PR#9785)
Full_Name: Clay B Version: 2.5.0 (2007-04-23) OS: Solaris Nevada Build 55b Submission from: (NULL) (65.101.229.198) I find that running this script causes R to segfault reliably. However, running just for one system at a time (modifying the for loop updating iter to run just for a system at a time works). The system is a Sun W2100z with 12 GB of ram, and R segfaults using only around 360 MB of

hi rowland *OK, you were asked 'Was this pc a member of any NT4 Domain in the past?'You replied with:'nope ..'* well all the pc who had trust relationship problem is new PC with windows 7 or earlier .. they never connected to PDC in clear OS i think i need to tell you my story 3 years ago when i upgraded the PDC to samba4 AD , maybe it related or maybe it will be out of topic

Sampling from a Matrix
Hello all, Consider the following problem: There is a matrix of probabilities: > set.seed(1) > probs <- array(abs(rnorm(25, sd = 0.33)), dim = c(5,5), dimnames = list(1:5, letters[1:5])) > probs a b c d e 1 0.21 0.27 0.50 0.0148 0.303 2 0.06 0.16 0.13 0.0053 0.258 3 0.28 0.24 0.21 0.3115 0.025 4 0.53 0.19 0.73 0.2710 0.656 5 0.11 0.10 0.37 0.1960

Simulating random draws
Hi, I have a data frame containing a column of human judgments, some of which are missing: > pr[3] label 1 4 2 4 3 4 4 4 5 NA 6 3 7 3 8 3 9 3 10 NA 11 NA 12 NA 13 2 14 2 15 2 16 NA 17 1 18 -1 19 -1 20 -1 Accompanying this is a matrix containing multinomial probabilities for the missing values, note that they

Segmentar archivos en R (Antonio José Sáez Castillo)
Gracias, Javier.

what does boxplot draw?
Dear r-help, Unfortunately I cannot find in the documentation what determines ranges of a 'box' in the box-and-whisker plot. It is said in "Simple R" (http://www.math.csi.cuny.edu/Statistics/R/simpleR) that they are 1st and 3rd Qus usually. I tried to add to boxplot lines with (quantile(x,probs=0.25)), but lines do not coincide with edges of boxes.

Question about quantile.default
Hi all, I am running into a snag using quantile function in stats. Basically, I don't understand why the loop below throws the error that it does. test.data <- rnorm(1000, 0, 1) for (i in seq(0.00001, 0.001, 0.00001)){ test <- quantile(test.data, probs=seq(0,1,i)); print(i); } It runs fine from 1e-05 to 0.00024, but then throws the error Error in quantile.default(test.data,

problems with generation of quantiles under For ()

R: Colouring phylogenetic tip labels and/or edges
Hi, I have reconstructed ancestral character states on a phylogeny using MuSSE in the diversitree package and plotted the character state probabilities as pie charts on the nodes. I would, however, like to colour the character states of my extant species, i.e. the tip labels, the same colours as my pie charts, such that all species in state 1 are e.g. blue, species in state 2 red and species in

EM covergence problem
Hi, R users I am trying to use EM algorithmto estimate a latent class model of discrete choice. The basic model is a logit model which has two variables X=(X1,X2) and the utility is defined as v = Beta*X. There are 3 classes of individuals each has its own Beta values, so Beta is a 3*2 matrix. For each individual, (there are 1000), he make a choice between two randomly generated choice

Samba 2.2.4 + Win2K Printing Problem
Greetings, all: I'm having trouble working out a printing problem between my Samba box, and my Windows 2000 client. Here's the background: Network: Home network with a Slackware 8 box running Samba, 1 Windows 2000 client, 1 Windows 98 client, and a LEAF Project firewall providing Internet access. The Samba server should only be available to local clients. Systems: Slackware box:

Sampling distribution (PDF & CDF) of correlation
Hi all, I'm looking for an analytic method to obtain the PDF & CDF of the sampling distribution of a given correlation (rho) at a given sample size (N). I've attached code describing a monte carlo method of achieving this, and while it is relatively fast, an analytic solution would obviously be optimal. get.cors <- function(i, x, y, N){ end=i*N
