Error, Variable is Missing
Hi, I am writing a function to plot a pdf of a distribution,
GNL.pdf.fn = function(x,mu,sigma,alpha,beta,rho)

y = x-rho*mu
cf.fn = function(s){
cplex = complex(1,0,1)

GLM, LMER, GEE interpretation
Hi, my dependent variable is a proportion ("prob.bind"), and the independent
variables are factors for group membership ("group") and a covariate
("capacity"). I am interested in the effects of group, capacity, and their
interaction. Each subject is observed on all (4) levels of capacity (I use
capacity as a covariate because the effect of this variable is normatively

samba: problem in copying directories with many files
Hi,
We have setup samba share between XP and Redhat 8.0. We usually deal
with copying directories with 1000 files over samba share. When we copy,
we always find that few files are randomly skipped in copying and one
has to copy few times to get all the files.
Is this a known problem and is there any fix for this?
Thanks.

"not authorized" when testing mongrel support
Hi,
We''re trying to follow the instructions at
http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/UsingMongrel
(Just using a single puppetmaster/mongrel instance and plain mod_proxy for now,
instead of balancer one)
We got past the "Server is not a class" error by modifying mongrel.rb
We also kind-of got past the:
/opt/bin/puppetmasterd:293: undefined method `daemonize'' for

LMER quasibinomial
Hi,
a while ago I posted a question regarding the use of alternative models,
including a quasibinomial mixed-effects model (see Results 1). I rerun the
exact same model yesterday using R 2.7.2 and lme4_0.999375-26 (see Results
2) and today using R 2.7.2 and lme4_0.999375-27 (see Results 3).
While the coefficient estimates are basically the same in all three
regressions, the estimated standard

Can't browse \Windows from Linux
I have Samba working nicely on my network, except that there are a few
folders, including \Windows, on the XP machine that I can't browse from
Linux. I can see and enter the folders, but the contents are null. What
is preventing me from getting to these folders?

Autofs and Fedora 11
Hi!
I'm having trouble accessing Samba shares via autofs.
Let me begin by saying that I can access the samba shares
directly using smbclient without any trouble. For example:
smbclient //Matsa/Pisi
works fine.
I first started out by copying a config line from an older
system (redhat 7) that has in its auto.misc:
(all on one line, of course)

Problems managing remote SAMBA printers from Windows
Hi All,
Hope someone can help. Have tried diligently all the "self-help"
avenues I can find, as well as asking for help on the user forums for my
distro.
Here's the situation.
Running SAMBA server on a libranet Linux 2.8.1 box (Debian based
distro). Have SAMBA 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian installed and running.
Can create shares for file systems and printers that are accessible

Automounting DFS path published shares under RHEL 5 with Samba?
I'm dealing with a Linux environment with extensive automounting, that
also has DFS configurations for the Windows clients of various CIFS
systems. I've got CIFS automounting working for various CIFS servers,
which definitely has its uses, but I'd *love* to be able to mount the
DIFS published paths for the CIFS shares?
Basically, if I have shares called \\example1\share1 and

Automounting (hotplug) with HAL on CentOS 5
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I would like to get add a new Wiki entry regarding Automounting with HAL
for CentOS 5, since the behaviour is very different than CentOS 4.
Main points:
- - Making automounting hotpluggable devices work with other WMs
- - Overriding the default mount point
- - Overriding the default mount options (noexec etc)
Small nightmare here to find out how

USB DVD/CDRW not automounting
I 'just' noticed that my USB DVD/CDRW is not automounting in my Centos 5
installs.
Various USB drives do: USB flash drives, USB multi card drives, and USB
IDE converters.
I can issue a: mnt /dev/cdrom /media
but why is this needed?

RedHat 5.5 and automounting with fstab
All,
I wanted to pass on experience that I have trying to get GlusterFS to
automount on RedHat 5.5. The documentation for /etc/fstab
(http://gluster.com/community/documentation/index.php/Mounting_a_GlusterFS_Volume)
doesn't quite work.
I have two servers 192.168.104.151 and 192.168.104.152. Both are running
GlusterD and both offer one of the bricks for the volume. Both mount also

USB Pendrive automounting
My USB Pendrive gets mounted everytime I put it on the USB port (/dev/sda on
/media/usbdisk). This behaviour is the desired.
Now I want the OS to automaticaly include the mount option
iocharset=iso8859-1 everytime it mounts it.
Is there a way to tell haldaemon (or other software) do this, instead of
hand-editing /etc/fstab ?

Automounting Problems (CentOS 4.2 v/s CentOS 4.0)
Hello,
Auto-mounting of USB flash-drives and CD-RW (as well as CD-R) was
working fine with CentOS 4.0 release for all users.
This feature of auto-recognition and mounting is not working with
CentOS 4.2 release for any user.
I have checked the usual possible points of problems -- fstab,
fstab-sync, haldaemon, etc. -- but have found no problems.
Any suggestions on other possible work-arounds ?

Seems a permission issue. su to root after the "auto" mount and take a
look. If you can see your file or can write a touch file then your user
may not be in the necessary owner/group to view/write to the structure.

automounting home dirs
Hi,
I'm running dovecot-1.0.10 on a Solaris 10 server with home dirs automounted over NFS. I have set the mail_location configuration option so that nothing should be written to a user's home dir over NFS but, as far as I can tell, dovecot still by default tries to chdir to a user's home dir when reading mail, although this is not required. This creates additional unnecessary load on
