that your written english is not that bad.
And yes, getting Samba and Winbind setup correctly so that all your
authentication is being done through a pre-existing WinNT/Win2K primary
domain controller is great. Right now, I am only using winbind for
authenticating and restricting access to Samba shares. I would try out using
it for other things, but there is no reason to. We've already got a

HEAD problems...
Hi, after Andrew Barlett's advice I reinstalled my Samba server with version 3.0 alpha HEAD. I cannot join my Windows domain. With version 2.2.3a I used the following command:
smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U ADMINISTRATOR
If I use this command with HEAD, the following message is presented:
see 'net rpc join' for this functionality
I reviewed the 'net' man page but it's

Samba 4 As PDC Not Populated In Windows Network
Dear Sirs,
I have been given your e-mail address by Jeremy Allison. I would like to submit the following issue I have. You should also know I have been searching Internet for articles before and found that the behavior I wish you to help me with is quite common. The issue is the Samba 4 server integration into a Microsoft Windows network. I have done this and that configuration as particular

Replacing Samba PDC with new hardware
Hi,
I'm currently running a Samba PDC (2.2.3a) on RedHat 7.3 supporting 10 or so
win2k users with roaming profiles. Just got a new Dell box and would like
to replace the current PDC machine. My question is this :
What is the best way to make the switch without making the current user
accounts obsolete. I've duplicated the most of the environment already, my
users accounts have already

WINT-NT is working as PDC and Redhat Linux Samba BDC and how to use rsync?
Can anybody give me a hint how to set up Samba BDC(RedHat 9.0) with
rsync-ing WIN-NT PDC so that if WIN-NT PDC is down all the clients can
still get Authentication service from Samba BDC(RedHat 9.0). i have seen
in Samba documentation that it can be done using rsync but nowhwere it
is clearly explained howto do it.. I ran out of gas by looking through
google also... :-(
With Best Regards

Question About Samba PDC/NIS/2k
We are currently running Samba in a security=share mode, I would like to
switch this to have samba be a PDC and use domain authentication.
Anyone out there combined the following successfully?
Linux Redhat 7.x NIS master and PDC, using NIS as authentication
for PDC/Windows?
I have seen several things on just having an samba PDC but I would like to
keep using our NIS as it's used for many

authentication question: NT4 PDC, Win2k clients
Hello everyone!
I'm having a strange issue with Samba. Here's the setup:
WindowsNT 4 PDC
Windows 2000 clients.
Samba 2.2.7 on a Mandrake 9 system that has successfully joined the domain and is visible when the client systems browse the network. (config files and error log samples below)
The problem is getting the Win2k clients to authenticate when they try to connect to shares that

No you are not, you are setting up a Samba AD DC, a PDC is something
entirely different.

Samba PDC Server Local SID, Domain SID, and GROUP RID Question
Hi,
I have a question regarding an issue I am having with our new
Samba PDC. We used to be running an NT domain controller and about
two months ago, I made the transition to a Debian linux box running
Samba. The PDC is currently running Samba 3.0.8.
My samba PDC is using the tdbsam backend and, for the most part
is working flawlessly. However, when using smbpasswd to add samba accounts,

Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone,
I think I solved it:
- I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on
the other).
- On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's
WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their
"secondairy" WINS server.
- TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

PDC recognizing Domain machines: No problem, only Question
I understand that when we join a machine to the domain we get entries in both
/etc/passwd and /etc/samba/smbpasswd (config specific). I would like to ask
if there is a point at which a PDC doesn't not recognize a machine as
belonging to the domain.
BACKGROUND
In my smb.conf I have the line:
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
So that in /var/log I get machine specific log files. All is

PDC/BDC Distribution Question
I'm looking for input from other institutions out there that are using
the samba PDC/BDC setup. At our institution we have the potential for
nearly 500 network clients on our domain and we are considering
expanding that to 1,000 clients. According to John Terpstra in his
Samba-3 book there should be a BDC for every 50 network clients on the
domain. We are currently running a solitary

Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing?
Hello,
I have been searching for answers now more then a week, but I cannot find a
proper solution.
Please help me with this:
Scenario:
Two differnet subnetted networks (1 and 2) connected by a cipe tunnel
between two linux Samba boxes over the internet.
On network one (1) is a Windows NT PDC installed which currently is the DMB
for it's domain (1).
On network two (2) one of the linux
