Sick Samba 3.0.14a-3 Server - in a world of pain!
I wrote such a generic subject line because I'm stuck and not quite sure where to go... It's a Samba 3.0.14a-3 server running on Debian stable. It uses LDAP authentication and is the primary Domain server on the network. Until around a month ago the server '''seemed''' to be fine, but now I have to massage it to life every morning just so the users can access it

XP Join Problem
I've got a configuration like this working fine. I followed the 'Making User's Happy' section in the Samba Documentation collection. Try doing a: root#:> smbclient -U% -L FASITET to see if the server can see itself. The one thing that stands out to me in you smb.conf file is that you don't have netbios name setting. Try this then look at your /var/log/samba/log.nmbd

Samba Group issues - LDAP
Hi all, Not exactly sure what's the problem here. I use GoSA (https://gosa.gonicus.de/) to create users in our LDAP system, and lately when I create new users they don't have any Group associations in Samba. I have a bunch of groups in the LDAP tree as well as users. The server uses libnss_ldap and pam_ldap to access the ldap tree. If use do getent group then i'll see this... #

Workgroup Browsing Issue and wins on 3.0.6
Hi, I am having an issue browsing my work group, i have made the samba server the master browser and it wins the elections. As far as i can tell from the nmbd.logs it is also collecting hosts for the workgroup but when you try to list the workgroup this error is recorded in the messages log : nss_wins[7417]: [2004/09/14 09:54:23, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(570) nss_wins[7417]:

authentication problems after upgrade to samba 3.0.7-2.FC1
good evening all, i upgraded my last samba 2.2.7a (dog2) this afternoon and have run into problems. first, the setup: windows 2000 clients three sites on three seperate subnets connected by t1 through routers. each site has a samba server that authenticates the users on its subnet. the workgroup name for each server is dognet. /etc/passwd, /etc/group, and smbpasswd are synced up manually.

rejected our name registration of WORKGROUP<1d> with error code 6
Hi to all, I have a samba server that was working with security share in one subnet and now is listening on another interface, configured as a PDC logon server with wins support and w98 clients, I followed the howto: http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/March2002/article177.shtml The clients added to the domain execute the logon scripts fine, but they do not see the samba server in nethood, though

Local Master Browser and Win2K
Hi all, this is my first posting to Samba. :) *wave* I'm trying to set my Samba box to be the local master browser for the domain. I set os level to 65, but the Windows 2000 test machine that we have keeps winning the election. I've tried upping the os level to 75 to see if that works and it doesn't appear to. Does anyone know Windows 2000's os level, so I can set the Samba

Terminal Services + VoIP
Hi All, I'm looking at implementing Asterisk for a customer that uses Microsoft Terminal Services heavily in their workplace (every workstation). It's about 25 users, and about 30 phones. At the moment their running on standard 10/100 switches. Nothing special, so I am wondering if I should recommend Layer3 switching for internal QoS? >From my experience with Terminal Services,

Mutliple Line 'Buttons'
New to Asterisk's and loving it so far. Does anyone know of any functionality in Asterisk's (or more so phones) that allows line numbers to be lit up like a switch board on a phone? So that someone can page another person with 'call on line 3'. I'm not really a telco guy and are still learning terminology for things. Any idea's? -- Regards, JB Hewitt Business:

Windows rejects name registration
Dear people of samba, my problem seems to be a firewalled WinXP in our net. Our Samba is the Debian testing (Samba 3.x). It is configured to hold the browsing list and to become master. The nmbd.log shows: [2004/06/09 08:17:38, 0] nmbd/nmbd_incomingdgrams.c:process_local_master_announce(311) process_local_master_announce: Server PRAEPLAB at IP 129.217.168.62 is announcing itself as a local

cross-subnet domain join issue
I am one hurdle away from finishing my test PDC with ldap and password sync. Its been a hair raising effort... and if I can solve this one issue, we'll be ready to kick our Windows PDC out the window. When I attempt to initially join the domain ( LOGOS ) from a win2K client residing on a different subnet, I get the following: -------- The following error occured validating the name

smbclient lookup fails when querying local machine
Debian Sarge, Samba 2.2.12 (legacy install), openLDAP 2.2.17, connecting to a PDC running Samba 2.2.8a. The machine in question failed DIAGNOSIS.txt step 3. I've got a really odd issue -- a Samba server that can "smbclient -L" everyone but itself. Samba still serves shares and PDC authentication works fine, but this failure is annoying, and as such, must be fixed. :) -- issued

Logging into a remote domain???
Hi - I'll be the first to say I don't completely understand Windows networking, but I did get the following to work when everybody (clients-w95/server-solaris) were on the same subnet. W95 boots up and prompts for username, password, and domain. I log in, and presto I'm connected and netlogon scripts run and everything is great. This is when I'm testing it on a completely

Problems with wins Server
I setup the samba server to be a wins server on my network when ever I browse the network it takes for ever to come up and sometimes it takes awhile to even to bring up the share or I don't see them. I am using lmhost on win xp system and the linux system for dns. When ever I do restart on the samba server it gives me this error. (shutting down nmb services ./smb: line 201: kill (6442) - no
