Home Directory Winbind
Greetings,
Trying to find a solution to creating home directories by using winbind. Have this setup:
/etc/pam.d/system-auth:
session required /lib/security/pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0077
With smb.conf:
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = domain
server string = Monarch Server
security = DOMAIN
map to guest = Bad User
obey pam

Nmbd in a infinite loop, doing nothing and sucking 99%CPU (really)
Hello,
My problem is that since last Sunday, 6 ultra 10, running solaris 7 stopped having samba working. Those machine are on a client site, a big mining idustry. SO, all the reports are generated over this data base, that needs to be available.
The nmbd process looks like being in a loop, doing nothing and consuming 99%CPU. I have tried to create a log, using the nmbd -l /var/log/samba.log

net rpc vampire is sucking my brain!
Trying to migrate NT4 to samba 3.0.0 or 3.0.1pre3 with an ldap backend.
I add a backup server account to the domain and joined. Getting the SID
and the ldap init seem to work, and I start windbind. When I run net rpc
vampire all I get is a ton of "Could not create posix account info for "
errors. Then ofcourse pdbedit -L returns smbldap_search_suffix: Problem

boy, that mongrel_upload_progress handler sucks!
I started actually using the upload progress handler, and noticed it
was leaking memory over time. Looking at the code, I noticed that
cancelled uploads weren''t being cleaned up. I bugged Zed about adding
a request_abort callback to handlers, but I found a simple way to
monkey patch that in:
# config/mongrel_upload_progress.conf
# yes, this file is being used with -S meaning

"why Wine seems to suck more than it does"
Here's an interesting blog post I ran across:
http://madewokherd.livejournal.com/5082.html
"I was thinking about the problems people tend to have with Wine and
how/if winebot can help (or how/if the problems should be fixed in
Wine), and figured it might be good to get these thoughts down. People
have trouble with Wine for a lot of reasons, most of which are not
bugs in Wine. So, uh,

Ha ha! Hypermail sucks (re year 2000)
Looks like I found the first piece of software on any of my own boxes that
screws up the year. Hypermail is archiving new posts from '1970' :-) I'll get
it fixed right up.

OT : Wengo sucks
Would just like to warn everybody for Wengo.fr
Once you sign up there is no possibility to remove your credit card and
even though you send them resignation letters they keep charging your
credit card.
Now I understand what they mean when they say `unlimited
subscription'.

Browsing Sucks on VPN
Hi,
I am using Samba on RH9 for providing namaing services. We were using WINS before for naming.
On networking neighborhood, I can see all computers (when I am in the office), however when I am travelling, I am not able to see the list. Not only that, I am unable to connect to my computer using \\NameOfComputer. I can connect through \\MyIpAddress.
I could see the list of computers when I was

BROWSING SUCKS
Hi guys,
I got this wired situation. I would appreciate if someone of you could help.
NETWORK:
We have a windows based network of approx 25 computers (Win 98, Win 2000, in NT, Win XP (both Pro and Home). We have a Samba server running on RH9 which acts as the domain controller and master browser for the entire network (OS level = 70)
PROBLEM:
SOMETIMES, in the windows, when I open NETWORKING

rsync-2.5.6 performance sucks between winXP and Solaris8
If I try to rsync OpenOffice-directory (OO as an example, 155 MBytes)
to Solaris8-machine/rsync-server it takes 4-5 minutes, about
70 MBytes gets transfered and eventually rsync.exe/winXP "dies"; actually
winXP's net doesn't responde anymore and I have to boot whole machine!
But when I try to do same between Linux and Solaris everything
works fine, transfer speed is about

Snom firmwares suck
Most people seem quite positive about Snom phones, I cannot share this
opinion.
The displays are dying quite often, and firmware is buggy. I have tried
every firmware from 4.5 up to 5.x and 6.04 but keep having problems with
phones locking up or rebooting during an ongoing conversation.
REALLY annoying for a phone that is advertised / targeted as a business
class phone

IMAP views - and things to make Outlook Express not suck so much
Some of the things that keep being brought up SEEM TO ME to be a form of
IMAP crack that can be accomplished in a much more generalized manner
with a little bit of thought.
An idea I had a while back was for IMAP views. It accomplishes the four
things I keep seeing on this list without being specific to any of them.
Consider new configuration variables:
rewrite Junk {
folder = INBOX

Tell me why my Shoutcase handler sucks!
So, I want to build the greatest online radio ever! (for my, currently
crappy, faderwave.net radio station. Right now, I''m running Icecast
straight up. The only problem is that managing different DJs and
keeping them off the air when they aren''t supposed to be there is a
pain. There also is not one single management package that does
everything. My current system is a hacked

Snom firmwares suck <--additional datapoint to consider
We have a large install of 360's running rev 4.1 with zero problems. I did
another, smaller install couple weeks ago with 40 360's running rev 5.3. In
both cases, the install was identical, same Asterisk version, same dialplan,
everything the same except the differences were:
1. Different firmware rev
2. Different physical LAN
Guess what? On the smaller install, lockups and reboots.

Creating a simple sum (or: I suck at blocks!)
I''ve been hacking on this for awhile and am not even getting close.
Consider the following...
results = Sample.find(:all)
total_counter = results.each{|result| #Add together result.counter}
I just want to simply iterate through the list and sum the counter field
for each row into an aggregation. I could do it in a full for loop, but
is there a nice one liner I''m missing?
