problems with multiple samba servers in 1 domain
HI, I've got a samba server acting as wins server and domain / local master. It has a few shares which can be accessed fine. It is running FreeBSD w/samba 2.0.7. I have another machine running Linux w/2.0.7 that has a couple shares that is also accessed with no problems. I have a third Linux machine w/2.0.7 that just doesn't seem to want to work when I give it a certain netbios alias.

Printer: Access denied, unable to connect
I have a Deskjet 690C connected to my machine running RH7.1 + linux 2.4.13 + samba 2.2.2 installed from RPM. I have setup the printer with RH's printconf-gui as a local printer. In local use it works fine. I have the following in my /etc/samba/smb.conf: --<snip>-- [global] security = share printcap name = /etc/printcap load printers = yes --</snip>-- and

Samba and Win95 printing problem
I am having some problems setting up the printing for samba and was wondering if anyone has any ideas. Samba 1.9.16p11 is running on a SparcStation 20 running SunOS4.1.3_u1. Accessing the shares, like [homes], is successful. When attempting to connect to a printer using Win95 with Service Pack 1, an error occurs. The printer share name, host name, and printcap name are all the same and exactly

SysV interface script
A long time ago, on a mailing list far away, I promised to send the SysV interface script that I use with success; the supplied one is a bit, err, basic... Well, one thing led to another, and I quite forgot, so without further ado, here it is (usual disclaimers): #!/bin/sh # # This interface script drives a PC-attached printer via the SAMBA utility. # # This script is a gross simplification of

smbfs size limit
Hello, Samba-users, please don?t beat me, but I have to ask this question here, as I haven?t found an answer I can rely on until now. I am working on a solution for a backup-problem and one possible solution could be the use of smbfs/smbmount. I am testing that now, mounting a WinXPHome(sorry, testing ...)-share which is 20GB of size (8GB used) to my linux-box. The linux-box is a bit more

Samba 3 and CUPs printer causes explorer to abend
I am attempting to setup a Samba printserver to replace our Windows Print servers. I have defined a few printers in CUPS, some raw, and some not. When I use the GUi to upload the drivers, The dialog works, however after that is accomplished, any attempt to get the printer properties or to use the printer from my W2K system (cpq0277) causes explorer to ABEND. System setup: RedHat 9 CUPS

Swat lets everybody into the "good stuff"
OK, I'm a Samba Noob, so be gentle with me. ;-) I've finally (mainly because I'm an idiot) gotten samba (Version 3.0.14a-Debian) working on a Debian Stable system (uname -a == Linux files 2.4.27-2-386 #1 Wed Aug 17 09:33:35 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux ) and I have several userid's & shares built & working, however, no matter which user logs in to Swat (for personal password

samba 32/64 bit locking error
On Nov. 5, Juergen Bock wrote (in a message titled "32/64bit locking problem with 2.2.2") that he was seeing a 32/64bit locking error in his logs. I have also seen this problem. I have a little more information that indicates that this behavior started after samba version 2.2.0a. Here are the samba versions I have tested: Samba 2.2.0a (compiled on rh7.1 system with kernel 2.4.5)

Errors printing from Windows to a Samba server
I've noticed several users on various mailing lists that have had trouble printing from Windows to a Samba server. I've stumbled onto a fix for my particular situation, and I thought I would post it for the benefit of others. It turns out to be a CUPS/Windows interaction issue and not a Samba problem, but the symptoms tend to point to Samba as the culprit. (I've posted similar

F-Secure SSH / OpenSSH pubkey compatibilty?
I am trying to use F-Secure SSH on a RH7.1 machine to connect using any pubkey method to an OpenSSH on a Debian 'woody' stable server (with current Debian security patches). Interactive password authentication works. But I have been unable to get any of the "passwordless" pubkey methods to work. I am trying to automate a copy where only ssh is allowed through the firewalls.

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

I have Samba v2.2.7 on Solaris 8. I have uploaded all the needed print drivers and setup several printers using administrator. I edited the 'device settings', under printer/properties, to adjust memory and paper trays etc. When I login as a regular user on W2k client, the settings are underintensified and I don't see the changes made earlier, only the default settings. general cups & access permissions woes
Hello all, I have been trying set up a linux box as a print server for our mixed windows network. It has samba working - everybody can see it & a shared directory. I installed cups & that too seems to be fine - printing test pages from the web interface works perfectly. But i can't get them to talk. I think this is mostly as i can't find a decent howto & so am poking
