imaptest: performance testing
Dear Folks, Using head of imaptest with dovecot 2.1, I am attempting to put a heavy load on the server, with insufficient success. I made 15000 user accounts, put them in to a file, one per line. Then I ran imaptest with ./imaptest userfile=../../imap-test-userlist-15001.txt clients=15001 pass=SECRETPASSWORD But CPU load is only reaching 20. I put an mbox containing 67 messages into

With sambaSamAccount, do I need an add user script and an add machine script?
Dear Folks, With Samba 3.0.0 RC1, openldap-2.1.22, with samba as PDC and as much as possible in LDAP, do I need to write an add user script and an add machine script? Or does samba handle this itself? Sorry, I'm rather confused about how to go about setting this all up. -- Nick Urbanik RHCE nicku(at)vtc.edu.hk Dept. of Information & Communications

LDAP: add machine script required?
Dear team, If I use sambaSamAccount with samba 3.0.0 RC1, do I need to define an add machine script? I want to be able to add machines to the domain as simply as possible (i.e., "automatically"). So is an add machine script needed, or does samba contain code to create the accounts itself? -- Nick Urbanik RHCE nicku(at)vtc.edu.hk Dept. of Information

Dear Folks, We had this assertion failure on Dovecot 2.1.1 on a particular mailbox. I upgraded to 2.1.5, and we have the same assertion failure, on the same mailbox: Apr 27 16:02:03 imap(nu-imaptest00258 at example.com): Panic: file mailbox-list-fs.c: line 156 (fs_list_get_path): assertion failed: (mailbox_list_is_valid_pattern(_list, name)) Apr 27 16:02:03 imap(nu-imaptest00258 at

LDAP arrangement for machines
Dear Folks, Now trying to get Samba 3.0.0 RC1 up and running only with LDAP, as PDC. I am using openldap 2.1.22-5 from rawhide on RH9. pbedit was able to migrate the user accounts to the existing posixAcounts in LDAP (nice!) but not the machine accounts, which had no pre-existing entries beyond the top-level entry ou=Devices. Since the sambaSamAccount is auxiliary, it needs a structural

SWAT features
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, all. I've been working on SWAT in trunk for the last few weeks. My work started as nothing more than a cosmetic redesign, trying to modernize SWAT and offer a clean, sophisticated interface. As I've gotten deeper into this, it seems to me that SWAT could use some improvements to its overall design -- not just aesthetically, but

Newbie: Directory Not Accessible
I am a newbie to samba. I have successfully setup a similar samba share on 1 machine in the past. I have everything setup as User access with the pcguest as a guest account. If I create a share to the /tmp, network users can access normally. I created a directory /var/snd and set permissions to be rwxrwxrwx. I changed the smb.conf so that permission were identical to the share for /tmp. I

Modifying SWAT views for general users
I'm looking at having my general Samba users change their own passwords on my Linux server using SWAT. Is there a way that I can have them have access to the password changing view and not be able to see the configuration and status information. Is there an easy way for those "button" to not appear on the web page? Roy Costa roycosta at us.ibm.com

what's the best filesystem
Curious what folks think the best choice of filesystem is, specifically when used for Samba and regular Unix users (SMB+NFS access). I'm using Reiser now but its slow and doesn't work good XP attributes. I've also used XFS (a couple of years ago) and liked it but had some troubles with cross-platform Unix and the extended ACLs. What's the preference today? Thanks -- Eric A.

audit and recycle VFS modules
I have activated the audit.so module and it logs information about file access but not in the format I want: it doesn't log the user name and host name who performed each action on a file or directory. How can I set the format of this log? About the recycle.so module, it works but not always. Some "Permission denied" lines appear in the logs regarding a file move towards .recycle.

SWAT won't start
Hi, I'm setting up Samba on a RH ES linux machine. I have basic functionality working and can access a share from a Windows pc. I set up smb.conf manually. I'd like to use SWAT but when I try to run it I get the error: -- The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:901 -- I set up the xinetd configuration file exactly as I've seen online. Webmin works fine.
