Sluggish Samba
Hi, I took the plunge and installed the latest version of OpenBSD 3.6 and SAMBA 3.0.11 (this because I found a patch for the OBSD ports tree). So I now have all that up and running. Both my XP box and my Audiotron can get to the SAMBA shares. I did this upgrade because the problem I'm about to describe is exactly the same as before I upgraded from 3.4 OBSD, 2.x Samba. I know others

Re: Strangely slow tranfers speeds...
Peter, I have the similar issues with OpenBSD and Samba. I've detailed the revs in previous posts to the newsgroup. In my case one device, a Audiotron, can stream wav files fine from a windows share on a windows box, but not from a Samba share. Windows boxes can stream fine from the same Samba share. My attempts at oplock, etc. have had no effect. If you figure this out please let me

idmap problems after update from 3.0.33 to 3.6.6
Hello, we are using a standalone samba server, which is a Win2008R2 domain member. The access rights on the shares are set with acl's. After the update I could access the shares. But if i take a look to the rights on the shares with "getfacl" I see only numbers instead of usernames and groups. Then I did a "getent passwd".There are now other numbers mapped to the users as

Initial connection after reboot is sluggish
We have an SCO server running samba with the config file below. It is in the domain and users connect to shares on it without any issues. The SCO server is rebooted nightly. The problem is that we have a box that has a mapped drive connection which automatically deposits attachment files to the rmomin share from Outlook (using CaSaveAtt) and it fails on placing its first attachment to the

Accessing files via symlink, does client see a difference?
I have an ancient device, several actually, called an Audiotron that I use Samba for to access media files. Now, I realize these are old and finicky devices. For ease of management, I keep my media files separated into 4.5GB directories (easy to burn to DVD) and then I have a script that goes into each of those directories and creates one big directory full of symlinks pointing into each

Need a little help with Samba 3.5.5 on FreeNAS 7.2.5543
Good afternoon all. I have an odd problem that has me stumped and I'm hoping someone here may be able to help. Recently I switched from a Gentoo Linux based OS to FreeNAS. The version of Samba running on FreeNAS is 3.5.5 (and was the same under Linux). I mainly use my FreeNAS/Samba box to share MP3 files to an Audiotron. One of the files is the Turtle Beach radio file, radio_tr.txt. When I was

Stand alone media player supporting Ogg ?
1. Anyone know of an Ogg playing media player, similar to the Netgear MP101 or the Voyetra AudioTron-100 (neither of which play ogg) ? I need something that will display and play/stream ogg audio files stored on the PC, without having to use a tv as the viewer. I looked on the wiki but didn't find anything. If they don't use a tv they don't play ogg, so far anyway. Voyetra

Cannot access Samba 4 via old Windows CE
I have some old boxes called Auditron that use an ancient version of Windows CE. These clients worked fine on Fedora 19 with Samba 3. I have now upgraded to Fedora 22 and Samba 4, and now these old boxes no longer connect. This is the config file I am using that was working fine: # Global parameters [global] netbios name = MEDIA server string = %v Samba on %h

Smarter flac / samba VFS module possible?
Hi all - Hope this isn't too OT - I've been playing with the file extention mapper VFS module for samba (http://file-ext-map.sourceforge.net/) to play flac files on my Audiotron. The above module takes any *.flac file and presents it as a *.wav to the client, and decodes on the fly when the file is read. It seems to work pretty well, but I often get the first second or so of a song

Re: Wine on OpenBSD
Greetings: I'm an OBSD n00b and an ex-Fedora User. Had my share of problems with Wine on OBSD myself. I was able to build and install after obtaining the source using git; but there seems to be some other memory allocation problems. OBSD has version 0.9.9 in their directories, and the Openports.se has designated 1.1.21? as being on their tree; but I'd rather not regress to those

KVM on CentOS 7 - sluggish performance with Win10 Guest
Hey all,  I've been running a Win10 Pro (64bit) guest for some time now.... and originally it was pretty snappy and I had no complaints. Somewhere in about the last 3-6 months I've been noticing sluggish performance -- but not overall. The system is mostly remote so I do a lot of my admin via RDP or the local console with the KVM Manager. I recently did a complete fresh install of

sluggish stream problem - help
Hi Reuben, I think I remember having the same issue when I first used icecast. I think from the best of my memory I swapped from using shout to IceS and this solved the issue. I could be wrong though my memory isn't too good and you may actually be experiencing something totally different than me, however I would say with your bandwidth a 128 stream shouldn't be a problem. Hope this is

sluggish behavior
Greetings, This is my first stab at this mailing list. Forgive me if I am over/under verbose. We have been running KVM for a while now and love it. Recently I have noticed a weird anomaly that is getting on my nerves. When I clone (GUI or virt-clone from CLI) both* virt-manager* and *virsh* enquiries get extremely sluggish. Using top I cannot see any resource issues. No I/O wait, the load

sluggish stream problem - help
Hi, I am a newbie here. I just tried to set up mp3 streamer server on Redhat Linux 7.2, using icecast and shout. I then tried to connect to the server, from another machine and different LAN, using xmms. And the stream is so sluggish, it gets cuts off for every 2 seconds or so. Both LANs (the server and where I am connected from) are T1. My mp3 was all encoded in 128 KBps. I then asked someone
