Re: Moving samba PDC to new machine (unable to change domain SID)
So, I followed these directions and got errors in log.nmbd regarding "domain_master_node_status_fail". There were still entries for the old server's ip address in connections.tdb, gencache.tdb, locking.tdb and sessionid.tdb, so I stopped samba, deleted them and restarted. All was well. I then changed the SID using "net setlocalsid

Weird XP synchronisation issue. Using old cached IP?
First, a little background: I successfully migrated the samba PDC funtionality from an old Suse machine to a new debian-based one. The old machine was named PHOENIX and had an ip address of 10.10.10.4. The new one has the same name but is on 10.10.10.14. Everything is working just fine with this new domain (authentication, adding users, computers, printing etc), except for one laptop. Since the

Problems with nmbd (samba 3.0.10)
Hi, I've installed a samba 3.0.10 (configured with --enable-cups, --withsmbmount, --with-acl-support) on a standard SUSE Linux 9.2-Distribution with Kernel 2.6.8-24.10-smp. The Samba-Server works as PDC since a month now and does it fine. But one big problem still exists: After about 10-20 hours after the start of smb+nmb the nmbd stops working. The symtoms are: No new users can login into

net getdomainsid returns two SIDs - how to remove one?
Hi, How can I remove the "domain PHOENIX" SID from the PDC? It was a test domain I had set up before this machine went live around 18 months ago. I believe this is the issue that's causing me to have problems migrating this PDC to a new machine. This is the output from the current PDC: phoenix:/ # net getlocalsid SID for domain PHOENIX is: S-1-5-21-3597458131-155160113-1223051555

nmbd log error - register_name_response rejected?
Hello all, I'm in the process of moving over my Samba server (using LDAP). I believe everything is functioning correctly, except for this error I get when nmbd starts. Looking back at my old server, it was apparently doing this as well... so it may not even affect needed functionality. Still, I'd like to figure out why it's happening! If anyone has an idea, please let me

NMBD unresponsive
Hi there, I have found a problem with my Samba server 3.0.28. This problem appeared suddenly without any changes in configuration or server update. NMBD becomes unresponsive in some minutes after startup with these options enabled: name resolve order = wins lmhosts hosts wins server = 172.25.8.86 172.25.8.84 Unresponsive means that it is not possible to connect to server, nmbd eats full

Possible bug in nmbd.
Hi, My nmbd daemon is dying with an internal error periodically. Samba version is 2.2.7a (I think the latest stable) but I've tried with the Samba package that came with my Linux distro (a Debian Woody) and it failed with the same messages too. Here goes the log.nmbd file: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Netbios nameserver version 2.2.7a

Duplicate group mappings - which ones to delete?
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b on Debian linux using a tdbsam database as a PDC for domain ADADOM. I have a problem with duplicate group mappings and need to delete some, however, I don't know which one is being used. Is there a way I can find out which ones have no users assigned to them? Here's the sorted output of "net groupmap list". The last three are the issue. I only

Failed to connect NT workstation to Samba2.0alpha8
Hi Folks, I downloaded Samba2.0alpha8 from Samba site. Compiled it and installed it on the Solaris 2.6 unix box. I set up domain logon for both Windows 98 clients and WinNT. There is no problem logging on from Windows98 and the shares are all working alright. Then, I followed Samba NTDOM FAQ and add the NT workstation name into /etc/passwd and smbpasswd (using smbpasswd -a -m

Ok...trying to follow up here and see if someone can help me out, and let me know what is exactly hapening here. I have a few ideas, but I wanted to post here. As I said in my previous post, I am having problems browsing the corporate network from a Branch Office. Samba as a DC w/ Win98 Clients :: "Incorrect Parameter"
Hi, I'm running samba 2.2.5 on linux, with Win98 clients using it as a logon server. Whenver I try to log onto the TEST domain, I get a very instant "Incorrect Parameter" msg from Windows. Client IP 141.97.52.12 with the samba box being 141.97.52.249. I think my smb.conf looks ok: <--snip--> [global] workgroup = TEST netbios name = TEST server string =

Cannot login to PDC(FreeBSD boxen) from client(win XP)
I'm finally getting somewhere in setting up my FreeBSD PDC. I try and login via my XP client and now it gives me this odd message. "Cannot login because a duplicate user already exists on the network. Please goto control panel and system and change your computer name." Sorta paraphrased there, perhaps off by a word or two but that's pretty much what it tells me. I'm just

One account can access samba, another can't.
My wife and I each have our own workstation dual-booting WinXP and Gentoo Linux. We also have a third which runs Gentoo all the time. I wanted to set up samba on the third box and provide some extra storage space for both our Windows installs. It worked for a few days, then all of a sudden it stopped letting my account (michael) in while still letting my wife's account (amy) use the share.
