Transport endpoint not connected
Well, I WAS puzzled by this persistent error. Then I stumbled onto
something and I might have fixed it. It looks like with an XP client, XP
might be trying to renegotiate which port to talk (445 or 139) over at the
start of every transaction. Whichever one answers first is used for the
rest of the transfer.
I added this to smb.conf and restarted samba:
smb ports = 139

Domain master vs. workgroup master?? (messages about domain master browser)
Can anyone tell me what to do about the messages I'm getting, or should I
ignore them?
I think my SuSE 9.2 box is configured to expect a doman, and there isn't
one, just a workgroup. Most things seem to be working ok, except for the
messages:
tolkien:/var/log # tail messages

Basic Samba functionality under SuSE 9.2
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.9-2.3 to work under Suse 9.2. This my very
first Linux install and I'm a little at sea here. There are so many things
that could be wrong I don't know where to start.
The Windows machine I'm using as a client has TCP/IP, file/printer sharing,
and Client for MS networks. He can't see the linux machine's ("Tolkien")
shares, but he

Op-lock error
Samba 3.0.9-2.3 on Suse 9.2
I'm still getting errors copying to my samba box: Often the first attempt
to copy to it fails seemingly before it's copied anything. When this
happens, there is a zero-length file created with the right name. If I
retry the copy immediately and reply Yes to overwrite the zero-length file,
it usually proceeds without problems.
Many times the copy just goes

cannot logon domain after upgrade 3.0.20 to 3.0.28
I have a working copy of Samba 3.0.20 (installed under /usr/samba) configured as a PDC.
Recently I install Samba 3.0.28 under /usr/newsamba, and copy the files lib/smb.conf (with path modifications), private/*, var/locks/* to the new locations.
Following the HOWTO, the groups "Domain Admins", "Domain Users", and "Domain Guests" (with RID's 512, 513, 514 resp.) are

FW: Samba access problem after upgrading the host OS
Hi All,
Recently I have migrated my host OS from Aix 6.1 to Aix 7.1, after upgrade the users are having access problem to the shares as they have mapped to network drives.
I have added the user IP address in the smb.conf "hosts allow" and the /etc/hosts.allow file. But still the users are not able to connect to the server.
I'm able to telnet the ports 139 and 445 but the ports

Multiple auth method problem
Hi,
I'm having issues getting the multiple authentication methods of dovecot
1.0-test65 to work correctly on NetBSD. I am combining a MySQL database
of virtual host accounts with the system password database of local
machine accounts. Both work correctly when enabled on their own, but
when enabled together only the one listed first in the "auth default"
section of dovecot.conf

multiple definitions in C code
There is a problem in MacOS X with multiple definitions of the same
symbol in different files that will be put into the same bundle or
dynamic library by the dynamic linker. It occurs, for example, in
the rpart package, which includes rpart.h in all its source files,
and rpart.h has definitions of a structure rp and functions rp_init
and so on. I think the same problem occurs in the grid package

Basic server role question
I have a samba 3.2.3-0.1-1882 server running on Suse SL11.0. It's out of
the box, just the way YAST builds it.
Pardon the extremely basic level questions here.
The intent for this server is basically just file and print services. (It's
defined as a BDC, I think, because I didn't do that on a previous install
and I couldn't get name service (wins) to work right. Wins works

Icecast source client with web request/voting for next to play function
Hi Kokos
The first thing you need is a music play out system. Almost anything can
play a random song from your collection; but; you have some conditions
you want to place on the play out process.
I recommend a program called Rivendell which is free and will do
everything you want.

AD login strangeness
Dear list readers -
I have been googling for an answer for sometime now and have come up
with nothing that is seemingly helpful but I need to correct an error. I
have a samba server running on a Solaris 8 server and a month ago setup
a domain user the rights to access it, using her AD credentials to
authenticate and get into the share. Today, I get an email from her
stating that it no longer

matchname messages filling logs - howto stop?
Listmates,
I have had a few boxes where the 'matchname' message is filling my syslog with
one new message ever ~40 seconds or so. No performance problems, just the log
annoyance. An example of the messages are:

Printing fails above a certain size
It was suggested here at my work that we get a monitorless NT station so that
the Windows PCs could print on our predominantly Sun network. I suggested
Samba and had it set up fairly easily (quite nice).
I'm running Samba on a RedHat 5.2 system on an Intel chip. The installation
went mostly fine. I just had to make the Samba spool directory world writable
for the printing to work.

Samba 3.3.5 problem with hostnames in allow hosts list
Hello,
My environment is Solaris 10 with samba 3.3.5 compiled with gcc 4.1
using OpenLDAP libraries 2.4.
I use netgroups in the allow hosts directive to enable access to my
samba server. This worked in our production version of samba (3.0.28c)
but does not in 3.3.5.
I've done some debugging and it seems the problem occurs in
get_peer_name in lib/util_sock.c
This routine always returns
