Trouble with smbmount [Linux 2.0.33/Redhat 5.0]
Hello fellow Samba users, I have a problem setting permissions using smbmount on my Linux /GNU computer I have read/write access rights on NT Server computers, and on a Solaris 2.5 machine, running Samba. My Linux computer has Redhat 5.0, and runs kernel revision 2.0.33. SMBFS support is installed as a loadable kernel module. The smbfs client software is version 2.0.1, and was installed with

smbmount + linux 2.2 kernel
Hi- I'm finding a strange problem with smbmount (the one from samba 2.0, not the old smbfs) on the 2.2.0 linux kernel. I compiled samba with: --with-smbmount --with-automount --with-smbwrapper I am using Redhat 5.2, smbfs is compiled as a module, and mount is version 2.8a if that matters. smbmnt is installed setuid root as it should be. When I run "smbmount '\\machine\share'

"smbmount" and Linux kernel-2.0.37
Hello, I tried to compile Samba-2.0.5b with smbmount after setting the configure-option "--with-smbmount". On systems (SuSE 5.0 and SuSE 5.3) running Linux kernel 2.0.35 and 2.0.37 I didn't have success: Compiling client/smbmount.c In file included from /usr/include/linux/smb_fs.h:11, from client/smbmount.c:28: /usr/include/linux/smb.h:47: warning: `PVAL'

smbmount from samba-1.9.18p8, Linux-2.1.107 and no joy
Hello all, after hacking around to get smbmount and smbmnt to get compiled on RedHat-5.1 I'm unable to use them. With the stock RedHat kernel and the old smbmount I used the following command line: smbmount //rho/homes /mnt/smb/homes -c pc-topaz -U pommnitz -u pommnitz -P mypassword Everything works fine this way (with 2.0.34). With 2.1.107 the new smbmount is required. As I said, after some

Solaris-8 (intel) --with-smbmount (Linux only) ??
Hello Family, It took my wife calling me at work to ask for some copies of our wedding pictures (trapped on Windows machine) that are next to the Solaris-8 machine I'm typing this on. Well I said, let me look for "smbmount" and I don't have it compiled on this system so I was going to recompile and saw this: --with-smbmount Include SMBMOUNT (Linux only) support (default=no)

I have LM8.2 and samba 2.2.3. When i set up the LM machines i could mount shares on NT machines. But no longer. linux 2.2.x and smbmount 2.0.5a: Win95 bugfix?
I have become quite confused about the interaction of the kernel versions and the different versions of Samba and smbmount. I have just upgraded to a 2.2 kernel. 'make menuconfig' gave no choice by which to enable the Win95 bug workaround. At the same time, smbmount 2.0.5a, which seems to be the proper one for a 2.2 kernel (it's the latest provided by Debian, under the name

smbmount and ownership of dir for mounting
Why can a user only mount on a directory which he owns with smbmount? Surely write permission should be enough worst case and likely this too should not be required. Other mount code allow mounts to occur without ownership (for example the CD-ROM mounting to /mnt/cdrom when ANY user types mount /mnt/cdrom without either ownership or write permission). It seems inconsistent. If the problem is in

Caching along linux->win smbmount?
Hi all - If this is in the wrong group kindly direct me where to post. I have an odd problem using rsync across an smbmount (via fstab) of a WinNT drive to Linux Redhat 7.1. I have samba 2.0.10-2 (though smbd is not running) and rsync 2.4.6-2. I use the Linux machine to rsync folders on the WinNT machine to folders on our production webservers. This allows clients to update

Incorrect Permissions/Owner on smbmount

I am now trying to mount a share on this server on another Linux machine (SuSE 9.1 kernel 2.6.5-7.108, smbmount ver. 3.0.7). I would like to have the share automattically mount on startup using an /etc/fstab

SMBMOUNT: process freezes on file copy
Thanks Urban. I am now convinced that this problem is being caused by the reshare of the Novell drive. I have ended up copying the data (around 6Gb, 400,000 files) to the Windows 2000 server from the Novell server. I then mounted the Windows 2000 share using smbmount. Copying this has been a dream with no sign of any problems at all. I think we will have to put this down to the MS Gateway

accessing files on XP box from Linux Box
Like many, I'm trying to make the move from Windows to Linux. Unfortunately, I'm not the only one who works at my company. The primary file server is a Windows XP Pro machine. There is a share on this machine that I must connnect to. As a first step, I'm trying to connect to this shared directory from my new Linux workstation. After many hours of combing through documentation and

smbmount hangs Linux if Windows server goes down
Hello. My linux box mounts a Windows filesystem as an smbfs entry in /etc/fstab. I found that, if the hosting Windows box goes down for some reason (Imagine that!), any process on the Linux box that was accessing it hangs forever in state D and cannot be killed. How can I configure smbmount so that it will timeout and return errors rather than hang forever? I have scoured the web for

Anyone have smbmount binary for linux 2.1?
RH 5/glibc or the linux 2.1.89 kernel have bad headers, because I can not compile smbmount without major header conflicts. (Although samba goes fine..) Does anyone have binaries out there? The only ones I ever see are for 2.0 kernels. ----------------- Brian Curnow ----------------

smbmount questions
Howdy all: I'm trying to use smbmount to mount a win9x share and copy some files for backup, eventually to run as a script invoked via cron. I have RH6.1/samba 2.0.5a, and the windoze box is win95b. If I do the standard mount (smbmount //winbox/backup /mnt/smb04) I have to be root. Also, after it's mounted, I can't create any files there as a normal user (even though the
