HP-UX 11i and Inability to run Samba 3.0.x
I have been attempting to run the various permutations of Samba 3.0.x on my site now for a couple of weeks, and I can find no way to get it working properly. Either no one else is testing it, or there is something wrong with some manner of settings on my machines -- and they are of multiple classes adn different installs. I have one G70, one D380, and one 9000 N-class, and all of them exhibit this

nmblookup works by IP but not netbios name.
Hello list, The issue is as the topic says, following are details: the Samba server running as ADS member, NBT enabled on Windows machines, no WINS. Windows machines can find each other by 'nbtstat -a' but cannot find the Samba server. The Samba server can't find neither Windows machines nor itself by 'nmblookup -a <netbios-name>', error message is "could not open

[NetBIOS] Registering new name?
Hello I'm having a hard time finding information about NetBIOS. Maybe someone here has good experience with this API, so I figured I could try asking here, although the question is specifically on how to use NetBIOS in an all-Windows LAN from Visual Basic :-/ I'm trying to register a new name on a server so that clients can locate it by broadcasting its NetBIOS name. At this point,

samba pam kerberos
Hi Everybody, We are working on samba 3.0.2a with sun kerberos SEAM and Netscape iDirectory Server support. We are able to integrate samba with ldap support. we tried integrater kerberos for authentication. We found a solution using pam via pam_krb5 module provided by the sun solaris 8. One important fact we found out using samba pam authentication, it directly calls for an account

IP to NetBIOS resolution
Hello, Is there *any* way to reliablily determine the NetBIOS name of a computer when you only know their IP address? I know it is very easy to find the IP address from the NetBIOS name, but I can't seem to find any way of getting a NetBIOS name from an IP.. James deBoer (jdeboer@scsinternet.com)

netbios name resolution stops working after device change
Hi there. This is with regards to samba-3.0.23c, on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p12 Previously I had Samba up and running without any problems. Then I decided to do a tiny upgrade by simply switching to a new motherboard, while keeping all other hardware and software aspects the same. However, after the upgrade, netbios name resolution seems to have stopped working somehow. \\servername lookups no

Windows LMB and Samba DMB problems.
Note: LMB = Local Master Browser DMB = Domain Master Browser Have Samba 2.2.7A running embedded in a variant of ucLinux. My interest was only to use Samba as a WINS server. I've set up the SMB.CONF with this config. for one test: wins support = yes local master = no domain master = yes preferred master = no os level = 0 I've set up the SMB.CONF with this config. for the other

problem with netbios aliases (nmbd restart solves it)
Hi, I'm running samba 2.0.5a under Solaris 2.7 and am seeing a problem where the netbios alias for our print server sometimes becomes unavailable. It is still visible in Network Neighbourhood, but double-clicking comes back with "<blah> could not be found on the network". However, I can connect to the machine OK, by double-clicking on its real name, rather than its alias. I

Problem with netbios aliases and security 'domain'
Hi! I have the problem that a host can not with the 'netbios name' and the 'alias' in a domain. Under samba 2.x it can be done without any problem. My samba version is: 3.2.7 Netbios name: u10 Netbios aliases: u2 Host has only one IP. Security is 'domain'. When I type: # net rpc join MEMBER -U Administrator -n u10 I can join the domain. Access to u10 is successful.

netbios aliases question (retry)
I didn't get any responses, can anyone at least tell me if this should or should not work? Samba 3.0.2a, two servers, each with a netbios name that matches their hostname. The idea was to have two servers live all the time, with the same printer drivers installed, and we could have the clients hitting one or the other via a netbios alias. I set up the netbios alias in smb.conf and dns

XP Clients, Netbios aliases and msdfs
Greetings list, I've looked high and low, and cannot find an instance of this particular situation, and thought I might try leveraging the power of the collective hive mind of the user community to solve this problem. My setup is likely not at all common. I've created a bunch of netbios aliases on a single linux box. Each alias has the same name as a particular windows group, like hr

msdfs not working on netbios aliases?
I encountered strange behaviour of "msdfs" when using together with "netbios aliases". E.g I have in smb.conf: [global] netbios name = server netbios aliases = server-oldname .... host msdfs = Yes [share1] path = /var/samba/share1 [share2] msdfs root = Yes msdfs proxy = \penguin\share2 .... From a windows (XP) machine I can now see: \\server\share1 and
